So I know most of you are aware who Hank Hanegraaff is and some of you may even listen to his radio show. I didn't want to bring this up until he went public with it, and maybe some of you know. He goes to my parish so I have a bit more local knowledge about him. He has mantle cell lymphoma and the treatments have not worked. From what I hear unless a miracle happens he is going to die.

Please pray for him. He is a significant milestone in American Orthodoxy and deserves our prayers.

Lord have mercy. I have wondered how he is doing.

Any chance he is considering a visit to Arizona? Or asking for myrrh from one of the icons?

I will certainly be praying for him.

If I see him next Sunday I will bring it up and see if he would consider it. Or maybe finding relics known for curing cancer.

If Hank's health continues to fail, I know many a Protestant who will crow that it was God's judgment on his conversion. So I pray he is healed. At the same time, though, it is oddly comforting to me to know that he has this ailment. I think about the difficulties ahead for me when I finally break the news to friends and family that I've firmly decided on converting. And then I think about Hank having to deal with this on top of all the uncharitable and frankly ignorant things I've seen some of my Reformed friends post on social media about the news. And I'm encouraged about my own situation. Lord have mercy, indeed.

Just the same, I'd rather they were shown a sign that would convince them at the very least to see Orthodoxy as an ally, at most to see it as far richer than their frigid cloisters of would-be University professors.

if they say that I would simply agree. then say that God judged He wanted Hank in His True Church before He called him home.

This is exactly what I fear, but haven't said so openly. Especially since this diagnosis came so quickly on the heels of his chrismation (though that means he actually had the cancer - and seemingly symptoms - before then).

But what I also know and wish I could share - I felt an urgency coming into Orthodoxy. And it helped me in ways in my personali life that changed me and my situation entirely.

Just in time for me to be diagnosed with cancer (which I'd actually had for years - just hadn't gotten it checked out - thankfully it was very slowly progressing).

But BEING Orthodox made all the difference in how I dealt with the cancer, which did make an impact on people who know me, and turned what would have been terrifying and depressing into a spiritually blessed experience.

And now thank God I am cancer-free.

I do pray Hank is healed. Miraculously even. I pray it serves as a witness to the world. But I also know that's me putting my PR-ideas onto God, and that He knows what is best, and will do just that. But I do pray for Hank's healing.

Has anyone heard of a ketogenic diet which is said to starve cancer cells? Interesting video.

Starving Cancer: Ketogenic Diet a Key to Recovery

I have looked into it. It has some benefits but has to be weighed against other cancer-diets. Those which are rich in fruits and vegetables have advantages too, possibly greater.

Keto has the benefit of starving the cells of simple sugars and being anti-inflammatory. But anti-inflammatory can be achieved through other means, and sugars may not be the most important factor in dealing with cancer.

Unfortunately we aren't as cut-and-dried as repairing a simple machine that breaks down.

But yes, keto has some advantages, IMO.
