are they part of prosperity theology movement?

Yoona,

I'm an Aussie from across the Tasman in Brissy. 3C is an acronym used for Christian City Church that was founded by New Zealanders, Ps Phil & Chris Pringle, who came from NZ to Aust in 1980.

Its Statement of Faith is similar to Pentecostal denominations because 3C is a Pentecostal / Charismatic denom worldwide. Tongues as the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

It has been involved in some controversy like this one of cover-up of sexual abuse back in 1980s and 90s. Some have identified 3C and Hillsong Sydney with the prosperity gospel.

There is a blog called, 'C3ChurchWatch ... to inform people about this dangerous church'.

Be warned! All is not good in this church and you need to be aware of some false teachings being promoted.

The 3C church was started by Phil Pringle in Sydney Australia at a time when all sorts of people were starting a church to give voice to their particular brand of Christianity. it was originally known as the Christian City Church and later changed to 3C.

I would say it is Pentecostal in nature, has the typical type of meeting that Pentecostals have and definitely has a prosperity component but I don't think it is aligned with the prosperity theology movement of people like Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, name it and claim it.

The local branch started with all guns firing but I think that it has become mediocre. it is typical of churches in the area in that they meet on Sunday morning at 9.30am which to me is stupid as there is already about 20 churches meeting at that time.

The leader of it was in the local AOG and left it to start his own work with 3C.

Most of the new churches started here in the last couple of years have been Pentecostal, so we have half a dozen of them all doing their own thing with a handful of people and achieving very little.

If they had any common sense they would all merge into one church and pool their resources and money but then you would have the real fighting begin. Who is going to be the top dog?

I read an article about a year ago that things were not too good in Pringle land as he was promoting some way out stuff and doing his own thing more than ever.

Interesting thread. They have churches here in the Netherlands and a church meeting every Sunday in my city so I had considered them a serious option for me as they are English speaking (my native language). I am glad the Holy Spirit kept me away.

Chosen,

I'm not recommending that you keep away from 3C but you have to be very discerning if you go there. For me, I wouldn't attend such a church because of:
  • a tendency to Christianity lite, mixed with rock 'n roll Christianity;
  • I don't accept tongues as the initial physical evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit,
  • Those who promote false doctrine (when compared with Scripture) do not need my support.
  • I would expose such false teaching and would not be welcome in such a church.
If interested, go to C3ChurchWatch to see examples of false doctrine of 3C exposed on that site.

You might like to take a read of what happened at this C3 Church in Singapore.

I went to one of their evening services in Sydney. It was their first 'site'.

It reminded me of Hillsong as I used to go to Hillsong for a few years.
I didn't hear the propserity gospel preached the one service I went, but I think they would be pretty similar to it as part of the charismatic/Pentecostal movement.

I used to be part of them. They do not teach the prosperity theology movement. With all the sermons I went to i never heard that the wealthier you are the more blessed you are. The are definitely part of the Pentecostal movement. They are a Bible based church and believe the Bible is the word of God, that was from the impression from the preachers and people I know that attend that Church.
