you do realize that these were obtained after days or weeks of torture, don't you?

see above

I think this goes beyond quote mining into actual false witness.

the actual quote:
"Lord of the Underworld; Warrior, Enchanter, and Wild Thing-not concepts of God that the missionaries of the church wished to see revered in the hearts of the people they sought to convert and conquer!
To different cultures, He was known as the bull, the stag, the lion, the bear, the eagle, and the ram. He is named Dionysis, Osiris, Dumuzi, Heme, Apollo, Cu Chulainn, Aengus Og, Yeheshuah, Baphomet, Cernunnos, Llugh, Lucifer, Zeus, Baal, Shamash, Shaitan, Odin, Thor, and Pan. He is Arthur, Merlin, Lancelot, Gwidion, Galahad, and most definitely, Robin Hood! Many of the planets are allotted one of His many names. Most of the days of the week are named for Him. He is known as the Lord of Life"

Even if these things were true in history or not; The point is that what does this holiday look like today and what does it show us? Is the holiday all about dressing up innocently and receiving candy? No. That is what everyone wants it to be, but that is not the case. The reality is what can we see.

The reality is:

#1. We see kids and adults dressed up as sinful things that God clearly condemns within His Word. The sin of witchcraft is condemned by God. The sin of murder is condemned by God. The sin of the fear of evil things is condemned by God. Death is glorified on this day. Why should we as Christians partake in a holiday that displays things that God hates or condemns? It makes no sense.

#2. Haunted houses are visited around this time and horror movies are watched (sometimes like an all night marathon). Sick imagery of death, demonic things, and monsters to scare people is pushed within these things. Haunted music and witches, skulls, and things to scare you are the name of the game of this holiday. You go to a Halloween party or a restaurant and you can get food in some cases that looks like body parts, etc. The focus is on darkness and not the light of God. These things will not be in Heaven. We are told to lead every thought captive to Christ. But on Halloween, this is not possible if one celebrates it. For Christ taught us to live righteously and good and to focus on things that were godly.

#3. What is odd is that Halloween is accepted by the world, like your public school, yet they will not celebrate any holiday that recognizes Jesus Christ. In fact, many of them have eliminated the Bible, or the display of God's commands, pieces of Scripture, the mention of Jesus, and public prayer. Darkness seeks to replace the light of God. This is what Halloween is all about. For imagine if every day was Halloween? Would that not concern you? Would you want the display of witches and zombies on everyone's home along with haunted music playing.... everywhere you go for 365 days of the year? Surely not. That would not be good. But for some reason because it is on one day of the year, it is all just harmless fun. If you want to believe that, then feel free to do so. It would not mean you are correct, though.

There really seems to be a huge confusion in this thread over fantasy vs reality.

Dressing up as a witch makes you a witch, just as much as someone going to church makes them a Christian. Next you're going to tell me people who play D&D are actual sorcerers or something.

Jeepers, global poverty, 300,000 child soldiers are in Africa, mass killings... I'm sure God really isn't too concerned about kids running around in costumes. This thread is non-sense.

I completely agree with this. Celebrating Halloween could open doors that you absolutely want to remain closed.

1 Corinthians 10:20-21
"No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons."

Everything is clean to someone who is strong in faith. But I think celebrating Halloween is just causing a stumbling block for everyone who isn't strong in faith. It could be very dangerous.

Well, everything is not clean to one who is participating in a pagan festival that glorifies witches, demons, ax murderers, ladies of the evening, etc. - no matter how much "faith" that person claims to have.

this guy wasn't a satanist. Devil-worshipper? perhaps, calling himself "
general to the kingdom of darkness in witchcraft," Ramirez said. "I would sit with the Devil and talk to him like I'm talking to you today. It was that kind of communication. It was that kind of relationship."

that isn't satanism

Not true. It is analogous because God says the wages of sin is death. So the sin of inappropriate content leads to destruction just as much as the sin of murder, the sin of witchcraft, the sin of the fear of evil things, etc. The inappropriate content day example is only more narrow because our culture has programmed many of us to think that way. In fact, in my understanding, murder is a whole lot worse than inappropriate content because you are taking somebody else's life. Also, indulging in witchcraft is working with demons to do dark and evil things that can lead you far away from God. So this also is even worse than inappropriate content because it is more directly involved with the devil.
One could claim that a costume of a witch or a devil is worse than a mask fashioned after a inappropriate content star. OK. But Halloween offers many more dress up options than your "inappropriate content day" scenario. So the witch and the devil outfits are on the extreme end of the spectrum of costumes one can choose from on Halloween. People can legitimately dress up as monks, nuns, angels, and fictional heroes that have nothing to do with the occult at all. While supermodels may not have anything to do with inappropriate content at all, they are much closer to that world than Batman is to a witch.

Not if the lights are off on the inside (on the front part that they can see) and they are off on outside of the house (Making it look like nobody is home or they are asleep).
If you live in the ghetto, you leave certain lights on, especially porch lights, whether you're home or not. That's a safety issue not just for your house, but passersby.

No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light. Luke 11:33

Hi
None of Halloween is harmless. I think it is ghastly! I so agree with you. Members of my church are doing it. What do they think they are doing!
I reject all such stuff, it is of evil.
We are for the light of Jesus. I will not join in.

Hi,

Actually, I am very disturbed by all I see going on. Halloween is about death and horror. Body parts, blood, ghosts. It's horrible! It's like the world around me is sleepwalking, celebrating sin and darkness.

Please someone confirm to me, am I crazy or are they? As Christian believers we shouldn't have anything to do with it, in fact we ought to speak out. At church one lady who is a friend and whom I assumed is a believer, talked about putting a ghoulish thing in her garden, it screams if anyone goes past. Another who is gives beautiful sermons about Jesus to us was wearing horrible brooches depicting horrors. In the supermarket a fake disjointed bloody arm in a man's trolley. Witches and goblins at entrance of Tesco.

Is the world mad? What are they doing?
If our vicar had courage shouldn't he speak out against all this?

I shall pray, but please someone reassure me, I feel defeated today. I happen to be tired and a bit unwell, I need strength. I shall read my scripture books and pray, my soul needs comfort. I am weak and weary today.

Nope, you're not crazy. It's absolutely mind-boggling just how deceiving the devil is. Getting the entire world to celebrate death and evil. I just saw on Facebook that the church I used to be a part of (i found Christ through its college ministry) is having Halloween parties and they posted a bunch of pictures. My spirit felt completely crushed and disgusted because I have good history at that church. I wanted to post a bunch of stuff on their page about Halloween being satanic but I refrained.

You could post some Scriptures instead, explaining why what they are doing is wrong. Focus on Lord Jesus, not on the enemy. :) Bring some light to them.

Hi,
It's crazy! What a world we live in.

Matthew 4:8-11
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,[d] Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”[e]
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

What are some good verses? I'm thinking the one in Deuteronomy where it says do not copy the customs of the surrounding Nations for they are abominable. What other ones?

Romans 12:1-2 is good, and something from Romans 14? Galatians 4:8-11, but I'm not sure it applies well. Ephesians 5:6-17 is very good.

And the verse I posted in my first comment, about drinking the cup of devils, I think would work well too.

Yep that's true. I have a friend who is a super strong Christian, I've known him for about 4 years now, and he goes out and dresses up for Halloween and goes to all the parties and stuff. At first I kind of thought he was being a little hypocritical but now I realize he is strong enough in faith to where it doesn't affect him. To the pure all things are pure.
May I ask what does he dress up as? Also by strong what do you mean? I find that’s subjective. But lastly I suggest you look into the history of Halloween when you have the time... of its previous name halowseve not a positive history... that other holidays generally have. Lastly i looked at a survey with a heavy sample size the other day which concluded that that most parents dress as witches for Halloween... I mean the Bible says if we say we have fellowship in him yet walk in darkness we are a lie. there is not one verse that says if you’re strong enough to resist something you can go ahead and do it Just cause if it’s wrong. The Bible says be Holy for I am Holy.
