• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

As I'm trying to fight this current obsession/flare up I keep seeing those inspirational things peoole post on social media "life doesn't begin inside your comfort zone" etc and that really sucks for me because it makes me feel like my obsession is "outside of my comfort zone" and I'd be better off for giving in. Just a thought.

For the believer, the peace of John 14.27 is a wonderful reminder and reference point.

OCD is a very hard thing to live with, i used to suffer from OCD, so i truly understand what your obsession is about.

The fact that you feel like your obsession is outside and not inside is just another intrusive thought like another.

We all have "intrusive thoughts" ( which are actually random thoughts like any others ) but most of us don't even realize it, we just ignore them, but people suffering from OCD tend to focus on some thoughts and over-thinking about them.

Just ignore the thoughts, or at least don't try to fight with them, just live your life, these thoughts are only feeling bad because you focus on them, just ignore them.

How do you think you should handle this? Do you think it would be a good idea to give into it?
No, not at all and I've come so far. I'm handling it by remimding myself giving into a compulsion isn't what it's referring to and thinking of things that would (realistically) not ocd related be out of my comfort zone. I just keep seeing those types of quotes and I think my ocd is distorting what It's trying to say.

Bingo! See, you DO know the answers...OCD is just trying to make you think you're confused. ;) Keep following that strong, healthy voice! (I know how hard it is, though, since I've been going through similar feelings with my current compulsion!)

You can't make something with incomplete pieces can you. You can move them around each time you want the other way, or puff them up to look like more, or try to accept what you're given, or borrow or steal, but lies and such forgeries of men, our thoughts like this, they just don't seem to get to where we'd hope or want.
Even with drugs, another problem might surface such as dealing with the doctor or appointments or stigma around being someone who needs mental help and perpetually in remission. And seeing other people who don't seem to relate in that way.
There's stories in the Bible about people who started small or did wrong or suffered what seemed like a curse for a while.

I hope the Bible will be entirely relevant to you and many people in its entirety exactly as it's written, but that people will come to understand and believe. If people realized how weak and needy they were and were desperate for remission of sin and not so satisfied by all the supports they still cling to in their strength, they might ask seek and find the root.
Else it could just be more confused attempts to try to act good and get nice things while not realizing how poor and wicked the world is, and the delusion and deception that people within some church acting good brings any more blessing than nice clothes and fresh air and whatnot.
I don't mean that to sound...well it is how it is. I suppose I don't have to speak flattery nor act to my fleshly mother's ideals of what a son should be.
You really need to see what the Bible is telling mankind.

I'm not a doctor but might learn some things.
But even if it's not recognized so much in this world, the Word is very beautiful and should increase.
The remission of all sin is so precious. People need to see this Love. It's spiritual.
Someone might rebuke me for not saying the expected happy thought or giving a symptom cure.
It's not so much about the money. Just please be sure to get the remission of sin in the center of your heart. The Bible is really powerful.
