China is moving to the global centre - stage under its president Xi Jinping. His Socialist thought with Chinese characteristics was outlined this week in a long speech to the 19th CPC national congress.

Key elements of his thought spoken and practiced seem to be the following:

1) PERSONALITY CULT- basically Xi Jinping is in charge. The massive overhaul of the CPC and Military leadershipvrecently illustrates this well. Loyalty to the president and merit are what get you ahead and disloyalty , incompetence and corruption are what get you fired. It will be interesting to see if Xi JinPing steps down in 5 years or not.

2) PARTY DISCIPLINE and DOMINANCE - under the president the party is expected to stamp its authority on China. There is a big anticorruption drive and the party is expected to remain as intrusive as ever.

3) ASSERTIVE BUT PEACEFUL
China is increasingly a global leader and will start to use its political, economic power to bring about its goals. Island building, reunification with Taiwan and the export of stories that make China look good are all expected.

4) UNITY
Tibet, Sinkiang and Hong Kong can forget about independence but so slso the wealth gap and difference between city and country are being targeted for elimination.

5) ENViRONMENT
Unlike Trump Xi stands with most of the global political elites in desiring effective actions to create a clean and beautiful world.

6) SOCIALISM and the MARKET
Growth rates have fallen under Xi JinPing but remain well above Western levels. The market should be the key allocator of resources but the party will remain intrusive. At best this sounds like German social democracy, at worst like a Communist planned economy which was a major reason the USSR is now defunct.

7) MILITARY REFORM
A more intelligent and combat effective military is expected. A holistic modern approach is being taken which along with , meritorious leadership changes and a rapidly rising budget should mean that Chinas military power continues to grow. But China remains a regional power compared to America with its Global network of bases , bigger budget and better equipment and organisation. So Chinas power on the world stage remains soft not hard for the foreseeable future

Any thoughts?

Ah, mother socialism. A system of government born on the best of man's intentions, but always seems to end in bloodshed and murder.

When's this supposed to start? Some of the dirtiest cities in the world right now are in China. Will cleaning up these cancer spawning balls of sludge and smoke make Xi better than Trump just because Trump started out with cleaner cities? With that being said, some of the dirtiest cities in the US are in communist California.

Yes China has a long way to go before the air in Beijing is breathable and environmental standards are comprable to the USA or Europe. But the point is more that the rhetoric plays better to global sensibilities than does Trumps. It is illustrative of a China looking to surplant America. Your position can no longer be taken for granted is the message of this congress
