Some of the shrubs that I love are hydrangeas, Autumn Jazz viburnum, viburnum opulus Snowball, and dwarf lilacs. I like birdscaping and a bird built a nest in my Snowball bush last spring.

I haven't reached a definite conclusion about trees.

I wish I had a willow tree but not enough space left and the roots could cause a real problem. I love cedars and related trees too. Rose of Sharon is another favorite (unfortunately the squirrels love it too). Many others, but those are some favorites.

My favorite shrubs right now are golden dewdrop and tibouchina. I suppose wisteria doesn't qualify as it's more a vine. I'm planning to put in some butterfly bushes, I LOVE weigela too.

  • Fig (California Mission)
Shrubs (herbaceous):
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Tyme
  • Tutti frutti

Oh, yummy! My oldest daughter and brother are very much into gardening vegetables, herbs, and fruits.

Tibouchina are gorgeous! I'm not sure I've seen one except in photos. Butterfly bushes are awesome and easy to grow. My weigela bit the dust because of our August drought I think. I couldn't get any water out of my back faucet --- I don't know what happened to it. My neighbor has a lot of Rose of Sharon along the property line. I guess I forgot that weeping willows are my favorite tree. I don't think I could grow one here. It's too dry some summers.

I hardly do any gardening now that I'm OLD! ^_^

It's hard to pick just a few. Some of my favorite trees are beech, birch and hawthorn. We are surrounded by maples and they are beautiful in the fall.
Some of my favorite shrubs are lilac, redbud and serviceberry.
Up here there are so many maples and there is a great variety of maple trees, in fact. I learned that as well as in Canada, various of the New England states regard the maple leaf as a local symbol.

My favorite shrub is a Daphne. (Not sure what variety it is.) They don't look like much, but they smell wonderful! In fact I first found it, by just following my nose in my town. It led me to this very plain looking shrub that smelled better than roses.

I don't believe so, THIS is the one I think I have and apparently it is from Asia. Although they grow in this climate just fine and can even handle some snow, although I try to cover it with a sheet when it gets below 20 (fahrenheit).

You guys in Washington/Oregon certainly have a well watered and lush climate ideal for flora and trees and herbaceous borders.

Oh, I always love plants that smell nice! I'll have to check and see if they grow here. Thank you.

Yes, though it can depend on which side of the Cascades you are on. Very wet on the west and very dry in the east. Also a lot of micro climates. Have you ever looked at the Gardening Zones? HERE I think I am in zone 4 or 5.

Interesting; I'm over on the other side of Canada. I know that above Washington State BC has varied climate zones also; some areas more arid.
