Saw Valerian. Wooden acting, atrocious dialog, lead-footed pacing, weak plot.

We nearly walked out on it (I haven't walked out of a movie since 1983).

Gorgeous imagery, however. The first few minutes were very nice, until the main actors appeared.

I low expectations for the acting and storyline. It made general sense. Cara (the female lead) can't convey a real range of emotion. This especially shows when one character dies, and she has to react. But the effects though, especially in 3D were great. I had a falling through space effect a few times.

Bladerunner 2049.

Like the first movie, it's a cult movie for those who liked the first movie. I was one of the twelve people in the nation who liked the first movie right off.
I've not seen it yet. It looks good though. I may go see Geostorm for the 3D experience.

Apparently, one needs to have liked the first Bladerunner to like the second one.

I've just seen it for the second time (my wife is away on a business trip, so I'm bacheloring for a week), and gleaned even more from it the second time. I think that's the first time I've ever watched a movie twice in its first run without it being a case of taking someone else to see it.

The cinematographer of Bladerunner, Richard Deakins, recommends watching it in IMAX 2D. He says he designed it for 2D, he shot it in 2D, and 3D screens tend to wash out the colors.
