Trump isn't a uniformed service member. So, how is that disrespect on his part?

The president is the commander in chief of the country - s/he just happens to have a dress code of a [pants] suit.

What s/he presides over, and his motivation, therefore, are linked directly to "the flag," and the respect thereof.

For someone who spent so much time talking about how much he reveres the flag, it's not gotcha, it's just the shear hypocrisy of the matter.

I don't care if you want your girlfriend to get an abortion, but if you turn around screaming that abortion should be band, that's some next level stuff.
But what he did wasn't disrespectful. It's funny now ya'll care about standing for the flag.

I must have missed the part where pro football players were uniformed service members.

Remind me again why they have to stand at attention for the flag while the Commander in Chief does not?

I think it must be something to do with the colour of their skin.
Yeah, because there are no white football players. There are no black military people. Why does everything have to be race with you people?

He went to New York Military Academy. I think he knew what that song was and what it meant. He's not a uniformed officer, so he wasn't required to stand and salute. Come on with this petty crap already.
He should put his hand over his heart and show some respect to the men and women who died defending his right to make a mockery of our democracy.

You're being deliberately petty and difficult. You know there is no duty here. There was no 'supposed to' about it. He wasn't a uniformed service member.
Neither are most NFL players.

A0parently it's unforgivable disrespect when civilians kneel through the anthem. You explain how this is different?

When in doubt, try to shift the subject to Obama.

I am not sure what you mean by "nope." The president is, in fact, the commander in chief for the United States, no?

Commander in Chief Powers

As far as whether or not his recognition of the flag and actions thereof constituting disrespect or not - one would think it would be a simple logical connection that the guy over then entire armed force of a nation would be the first one to model what it means to respect the flag. That is, if one is being honest. I mean, I remember Obama getting roasted for doing much less. Yet, Trump gets a pass. It's quite curious to me...

This is especially the case since he had so much to say about people protesting the national anthem - and they were actually following the constitution to properly protest. They didn't run over anyone with a car to express their point.

It is at best, irresponsible for a leader of a nation to act so lax around cherished objects of nationalism. In fact, it is hypocritical. And, to me hypocrites are absolutely disrespectful - because they think they can freely insult one's intelligence by exploiting (un)plausible deniability.

Ya'll are just trying to play "gotcha!" here. I know, I know. Typical liberals can't let an opportunity to attack go to waste.
Were you here for the "scandal " about Obama not wearing a flag pin?

Just a tiny bit of consistency would be nice.

Sounds like we can extend some mercy and grace to him OR join the secular masses and knit pick.

Thank you Trump to all you do!!!
I would love there to be a mutual extending of mercy and grace between the president and everyone he mentions on his Twitter feed.

When did Obama ever raise such a stink over flag etiquette?

Besides... Is Obama really the standard you want to have for patriotic displays?

I thought he was un-American to you guys. I thought y'all wanted a real American who respects the flag and isn't ashamed... Not some commie socialist Muslim Kenyan atheist globalist who hates America and our troops!

I have nothing more to add to this conversation. You guys are trying to throw onto him rules made ONLY for enrolled and uniformed service members, of which Trump is not. This doesn't apply to him, where if it was the national anthem, then you might have a story. But this is just another blatant attempt to attack the president over something petty. If you disagree, then fine, but stop with the intellectual dishonesty. You guys look too desperate.

When in doubt, try to shift the subject to Obama.

It is one of the most basic tactics for insecurity and dishonesty: deflection.

If you can supplement it with "subtle" insults, and reinforce the idea that popular opinion agrees with you, deflection can be a powerful tool of psychological exploitation.

I especially like how those who deflect assume the person cannot recognize/understand what is being done. This is a delusion grown from the dishonesty, insecurity and faith in their deflection.

Typically, maieutics on well them so that they expose themselves. Sometimes, they beat you too it without realizing it.
