The word believe is in many places of the NT. John 3:16, John 6:37-6:40, John 10:26, Mark 16:16 just to name a few.

But, just what does it mean to believe in Jesus? Is it believing that he is the Messiah? Is it believing in the Holy Trinity or that Jesus is God in the flesh? Is it believing that Jesus is the God of the Old Testament? Is it believing in the Death, Burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ? What exactly does it take to become one of Jesus's sheep?

I believe that we become Jesus's sheep by believing that he is the Messiah and by believing in his death, burial, and resurrection and that is the bare minimum requirement for salvation. Why? Because, if we don't believe those things than It's impossible for us to be saved because, without Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection there can be no salvation. Think about it, if Jesus wasn't the Messiah how can he save us from our sins? How can he save us when we die? How can he give us Eternal life if he were not fully God and God's chosen Messiah? If we don't believe that Jesus died and then was buried and resurrected how can he resurrect us when he returns again?

When we believe in Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection and ask Jesus for salvation he gladly comes to us and gives us the Holy Spirit and we become born again. That's what it means to believe in Jesus. It isn't believing that he is God (Although that is true), it isn't believing that he is Yahweh (Although that is true), It isn't believing in the Trinity (Although It's true). It's believing that Jesus is the Messiah and believing he died, was buried, and resurrected himself from the dead. That is what I believe just what believing in Jesus is. What about you?

I'm confused as to what you mean by this? Can you please explain?

Thanks. Peace to you too.

Short and sweet, to quote another believer and the Holy Scriptures:

Faith is more than believing. Faith is more than thinking, talking, or having convictions about Jesus. Faith is action. It is movement; it is activity. Faith is something you do. In fact, the Bible says in James 2:14, “If people say they have faith, but do nothing, their faith is worth nothing” (NCV).

The problem with thinking one is saved by having a mere belief on Jesus (alone) is that leads to making one think that they can sin and still be saved. You can abuse children, sleep with prostitutes, steal, murder, rape, get drunk and then drive and still be saved because you have a belief on Jesus (or at the very least do these evil things on occasion as long as you pay lip service with no real change in your life). That not only sounds immoral but it also is in no way biblical.

Titus 2:11-12 says the grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness.
We are told in Scripture to:

Continue in faith (Colossians 1:23).
Continue in grace (Acts of the Apostles 13:43).
Continue in love (Hebrews 13:1).

These three things are all tied to salvation. Yet, the Bible tells us to continue in these things.
Yet, greasy grace teaches something else. It says you can have your cake and eat it, too. You can sin and still have Jesus. But this is wrong. For Hebrews 12:14 says that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. Jesus says, why do you call me Lord, Lord if you do not do what I say? (Luke 6:46). Titus 1:16 says that we can deny God by a lack of works. Hebrews 5:9 says that Jesus is the author of eternal salvation to those who OBEY Him. Matthew 7 and Matthew 13 both warn that those believers who sin are not going to make it. Jesus says depart from me ye that work iniquity (sin). Jesus says that His angels will remove all who offend (sin) and work iniquity (intense sin) from His Kingdom and they will be cast in the furnace of fire (Matthew 13:41-42). The furnace of fire is the Lake of Fire. God is not a respecter of persons. If you said a prayer once and or just have a mere belief on Jesus alone, that is not going to cut it. There are many warnings in the Bible against having a belief alone with the thinking that one can sin (or even occasionally sin). It doesn't work like that.

Another problem with Eternal Security is that it is selfishly motivated. It is catered to a person's sin. You can still enter God's kingdom and yet you can still have your pet little sins every once and a while (or all the time - depending on which flavor of OSAS you believe in).

I remember talking in person with a guy who admitted to me that he could mow down a crowd of people with a sub machine gun and yet he would still be saved in the process while doing so because he has a belief on Jesus.

This is what is scary about Eternal Security.

In fact, George Sodini is one of the biggest Eternal Security proponents out there. Yet, he turned out to be a mass murderer and suicide victim.

George Sodini.

I mean, you know the good guys vs. the bad guys by what they do. When you turn on the news, or watch a movie, or go out into the world you determine if someone is bad or good by their behavior. However, Eternal Security has things turned upside down. You can believe in Jesus and you are saved and yet how you live life has nothing to do with your salvation. This sends the wrong message that a person can live sinfully and still be saved. But in order for this plan of salvation to work, God would have to agree with it. God would have to agree with sin because you think your plan of salvation allows for you to sin a little again or a lot with the thinking you are saved. But God cannot agree to your thinking that you can sin again. For God is holy, just, and good. God is love; And he that does not love does not know God (1 John 4:8). Loving your neighbor includes obeying the moral law (See Romans 13:8-10). Be not deceived. The unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God. God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Faith led Noah to build an Ark. If Noah did not build the Ark, he would have not been trusting God and he and his family would have perished in the global flood.

Think, my friends.

True faith is more than just believing alone.
Faith is always followed by right actions, thereby proving that one's faith is true.

John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

And I understand that means, believe what Jesus says.

"Faith is a work of God in us, which changes us and brings us to birth anew from God (cf. John 1). It kills the old Adam, makes us completely different people in heart, mind, senses, and all our powers, and brings the Holy Spirit with it. What a living, creative, active powerful thing is faith! It is impossible that faith ever stop doing good. Faith doesn't ask whether good works are to be done, but, before it is asked, it has done them. It is always active. Whoever doesn't do such works is without faith; he gropes and searches about him for faith and good works but doesn't know what faith or good works are. Even so, he chatters on with a great many words about faith and good works.

Faith is a living, unshakeable confidence in God's grace;
