If we had a temple, I wonder if this year would that scarlet thread turn white or has the cup of iniquity ran over the brim?
So does it depend on the temple, or in a modern case, the synagogue who puts out the thread? The thread is said to have not turned white in the 40 years following the ascension.
But that was for the unbelievers.
We as believers know our sins have been forgiven.
It probably came about because of this..Why did they need the thread if God said:
"For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD." (Lev 16:30) ?
It probably came about because of this..
Genesis 38:28
And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
It seems to be a common thread to use for different reasons... likeCare to elaborate?
It seems to be a common thread to use for different reasons... like
Joshua 2:18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
I suppose if the high priest made it out alive, it meant he did good, but that still didn't mean that the congregations' sins were forgiven...I just went and read up about this. Apparently it was connected to:
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
(Isa 1:18)
My point was why would they need a thread (to watch and see if it turned white) if God said the priest would make an atonement for them.
But I also was just reading that because the atonement ceremony had to be done in order, they would watch and when the thread turned white, it meant the scapegoat had reached the wilderness and the ceremony could continue. There must be some meaning behind that, too. I might have to do some more reading!
I suppose if the high priest made it out alive, it meant he did good, but that still didn't mean that the congregations' sins were forgiven...
Gets interesting... good question... just how important is the scarlet thread and to whom? and why??But if their sins weren't forgiven that means there was an "if" to the atonement.
Not sure I understand you Vis. There is no Temple and the synagogue was never used for sacrifices let alone the Yom Kippurim ones.So does it depend on the temple, or in a modern case, the synagogue who puts out the thread?
What I am saying is that, if the synagogue congregation put out a scarlet thread at the start of services and had a day of repentance prayer vigilance, would God honor it with the thread turning white? Not sure I understand you Vis. There is no Temple and the synagogue was never used for sacrifices let alone the Yom Kippurim ones.
I'm sure it was one of the priests who tied it on the outside so all those waiting expectantly could see.
Today chickens are used but I don't think there's any way of telling if they have been atoned for or not.
