Q: Can True born again BELIEVERS lose their spiritual POSITION in Christ?
Ron, which OSAS do you hold?
1. Antinomianism (Gnosticism), corrupt actively-sinning FLESH, but saved SPIRIT
2. Eternal Security -- everyone is truly invited, but once "in" either too changed to fall, or God KEEPS each person saved
3. Sovereign Predestined Salvation (Reformed Theology, Calvinism, etcetera) -- everything is decided by God long before the world was created, only a few are truly invited and those He elects WILL be saved (and those He created to be wicked and burn cannot be turned)
God does not want you to fear loss of your SPIRITUAL POSITION IN Jesus the Christ when you sin.
In Heb3:12-14 we are to encourage each other lest one of us become deceived by sin to a hard heart that
falls away from the living God; we are partners in Christ IF we hold fast to the end.
In Heb4:11 we are warned not to fall and fail to enter God's rest by imitating Israel's disobedience and unbelief (end of previous chapter).
What do you think they intended to teach?
The sins of believers are FORGIVEN, and there is cleansing upon confession (agreeing with God).
Hebrews 10:26-29 (written to us
saved), says "if we continue sinning willfully after having received (full) knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and fury of fire that consumes the adversaries." Then it speaks of a man who
was sanctified by Jesus' blood, but now tramples Jesus, insults the Spirit, and scorns the blood that once sanctified him. Isn't he US, if we do not heed the warning of verse 26?
Verse 10:35 "do not throw away your confidence" (don't throw away Jesus).
Verse 10:36 "you NEED endurance SO THAT when you've done Christ's commands you may receive the Promise".
The entire letter of Hebrews is all about "don't-become-unsaved", isn't it? Heb12:7-9 warns against becoming "unborn". Then 12:25 "much less shall WE escape
who turn away from God!"
There is a terrible momentum towards "don't-fall-from-salvation", isn't there?
