Was Paul a pope?

But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles. And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. - Galatians 2:7-9

It seems to me, after reading this scripture, that the apostles basically handed the Gentile church over to the Apostle Paul.

Rome has Peter in Rome way too early, it's absurd. Now he was definitely a leader among the Apostles but the office of the papacy wouldn't happen for centuries. The Apostles taught the same thing the same way, including Paul.

According to Roman Catholic "tradition", Peter reigned for seven years as the first pope. It is also alleged that Peter was put to death (under Nero) one year after Paul. Now, according to Paul, no one came to his defense while he was in prison in the years leading up to his execution, including the reigning pope at the time.

According to Paul, he didn't even try. If Peter was there, and leading the church, you would expect at least a mild defense of the greatest theologian of the church at the time.

Peter was posthumously given the rank and title pope

the implication of a posthumous appointment is that Jesus didn't issue the appointment.

James (the brother of Our Lord) was the first elected to serve as Bishop from 33-62ad in Jerusalem.

The word "sentence" (κρίνω krinō) in the following text should be given it's proper due.

Act 15:19 Saint James speaking:
Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:

Jesus is head of the church. Peter was never a pope. The bible does not even use the word (or its equivalent) pope. It says 'There is ONE God and ONE mediator between man and God, that is the man Christ Jesus. No other mediator at all.
