You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but the Spirit of the living God. Not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts 2cor3:3
A Christian doesn't show they area letter of the covenant issued to Israel at Sinai. That isn't written on the heart.

God's Word clearly describes where the name Israel came from. It came from God himself who uses this name to describe his people. You just saying "There is no such thing as spiritual Israel" or a "This verse doesn't identify Spiritual Israel" does not do away with the 19 scriptures from post # 314 you have chosen to close your eyes and ignore. This is God's Word friend not mine. I do not judge you for what you believe. This is between you and God and it is God's Word that will judge all of us in the last days (John 12:47-48)
I quote Genesis 32:28 for your convenience.

And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Israel means God prevailed. Moses applied this to Jacob because he prevailed with God.

I presented God's Word.

It has been said that I am abusing God's Word essentially declaring I'm ignorant.

It's said that Romans 7:6 means we are delivered from the penalty of sin. I ask where. Saying we are delivered from the penalty is eithre changing or adding to the words of the Book. There is a penalty for doing this in Revelation 22:18-19. In the 1st 4 verses Paul says the (husband) law is dead freeing the woman (Christian) to marry another. The Christian abides in Jesus and Jesus abides in the Christian if I read John 15:4 correctly.

It's been said by implication that Romans 1:5 indicates we are only free to follow the law. What does it really say? For your convenience I quote the following:

1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

First the Gospel was promised as early as Abraham and later by Jeremiah. The blessing of Abraham in Genesis 18:18 is repeated in 22:18 which is significant because it includes the how. That how is the seed (a descendant, not all descendants). Galatians 3:19 makes it more clear. For you convenience I quote the verse.

Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

Romans 13:9-10 has been referenced to mislead a person to believe they must keep (fulfill) the law. Verse 8 wasn't referenced. That verse says love fulfills the law. It doesn't say we fulfill the law. Yes verse 8 and 10 indicate we're to love. Neither indicates we're fulfill the law. To do so by passes Jesus' substitionary work of doing what the Scripture says no one has done in both testaments.

John 14:15 is referenced because it's thought it can easily be said to mean the ten commandments. There's no indication of that in the verse. Jesus takes possession of His commandments, not anything else as is made clear in John 15:10. Jesus also clearly gives a new commandment in John 13:34 not found in the OT.

John 8:32-36 is also referenced spanning verse 34 trying to prove sin is only and always transgression of the law. This has been tried to back up with 1 John 3:4 usually misquoted to promote something it doesn't. Verse 31 says to continue in the words of Jesus if you are his disciple. The words of Jesus don't indicate a requirement to follow the law. John 1:17 and 10:1, 7-8 proves Jesus doesn't promote the law.

It's said if we have faith the law can't condemn us but we're free to obey that law. Why since the law can't condemn the Christian? The purpose of the law is to legally punish transgressors regulating behavior. It should be obvious to all the law isn't successful in this as noted in Romans 8:3.

John 3:16 and 5:24 say nothing about keeping the law to have eternal life. Ephesians 2:8 is referenced trying to make a person think they are required to work for their salvation while Romans 6:23 says it is a gift. Wages are paid for working for anything, included salvation. Romans 6:23 also says those wages are death.

It's said Paul doesn't say the law is abolished. Yet Paul says several times "not under the law" and "we are now delivered from the law." How can the Christian be obligated to something they're delivered from?

Did I ever say all the commands in the Torah were ceremonial? The first five books in the bible are the Torah and I have never said that all of these are the ceremonial laws of Moses. Do you know what are the ceremonial laws of Moses are? Who is talking about dividing God’s Law and the ceremonial laws of Moses? Not me. I only said and provided scripture to show that they are not the same as each other and had a different role under the Old Covenant and were separate from each other because one was to pass away and the other is forever. (Ecc 3:14)
Remember Matthew 5:17-18.

Your interpretation of 2Cor 3:7-11 and Gal 3:19 saying that God’s 10 commandments are “Non-binding” and “temporary” and “ended at the cross” is a false interpretation of God’s Word and is in contradiction to the Word of God. Your statement above only shows you do not know the difference between the ceremonial laws of Moses and God’s Law (10 commandments) which is forever or the roles they both play in the Old and the New Covenants. Here you go Bob I will just use a few New Testament scriptures only. Please harmonize these 20+ scriptures with your interpretation that God’s Law (10 commandments) being ended at the cross. As they say the opposite of what you believe. No theories or opinions please use scripture.
The sabbath is ceremonial and on the stone tablets.
Matthew 5:17-19,
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18, For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19, Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
But you claim ceremonial laws are done away with. Your quote say no jot or tittle will pass.
Matthew 19:17,
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Nothing here but implied out of context meaning. This is intentional misrepresentation of God's Word.
James 2:8-12
8, If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11, For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12, So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

James 2:17, Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:20, But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
James isn't talking about works of the law.
1 John 2:3-4,
3, And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4, He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Does this include those who refuse to accept the new covenant Scripture?
James 2:10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Only for those who are under it.
John 14:15, If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Which are what?
John 15:10, If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
This verse clearly shows Jesus is requiring anyone to keep the law.
Matthew 5:27-28,
27,Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28, But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Wonder why this particular passage from the Sermon on the Mount is posted.
1 John 3:3-10,
3, And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 4, Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5, And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6, Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7, Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8, He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9, Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10, In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
What is being said and even underlined isn't understood and is self condemning.
1 John 5:2-3,
2, By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3, For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
Yes and amen! Now why is 1 John 3:23 telling us what these commandments are avoided?
2 John 1:6,
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
For context I quote:

4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

The passage gives the commandment we're to follow which is the same commandment Jesus gave as new in John 13:34.
Romans 7:7
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust,3 except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
v12, Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Acts 17:30
In times of this ignorance God winks at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Yes and amen!
Hebrews 10:26-27
26, For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
This creates a very real problem for those claiming to follow the 4th and don't in reality.

Why ask questions when the answer is ignored?

How can anyone possibly be promoting law over grace when they believe the penalty of sin has been removed from the believers life? The law cannot condemn them: there sins and lawless deeds will be remembered no more. They are delivered from the condemnation if the law. Christ is their righteousness before the Father from first to last.
You don't seek to live an ever holier life by looking to the law within you, but to Christ, and trust him to do in you through it the Spirit what your flesh is incapable of doing. The more you do this, the more the fruit of the spirit grow in your life, the more you live as God desires you to live for that fruit is the embodiment of how God wants you to live.
How can you intelligently discuss with people who say such views are putting law before grace?
The reality is, it is accepting the whole message, not throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

I too many years ago believed the entire law got abolished, and quoted the same scriptures with the same understanding some quote them now in this thread.
But, when someone showed me the error in my thinking I accepted it. In my view I matured in understanding.
If people want to believe the entire law got abolished fine, believe that if you want. Why keep arguing about it? I'm hardly going to change my view to what I progressed from. So no point. You keep your belief on this subject and I will keep mine

One of the problems I have here are people who get upset especially if their leading question isn't answered the way they want when themselves repeatedly refuse answer questions themselves. They also refuse to acknowledge Scripture often times.

Anyone who promotes obligation to the law in any form is promoting the law. If one says that a person is following the law because they don't murder while they don't keep the 7th day sabbath is fooling only themselves. Anyone who tries to show obligation to the law in this way is usually arguing for the 7th day sabbath. Some here do this refusing to admit that fact. I've been around long enough both in this fantasy land and real life to recognize this type of manipulation. Others are preaching a partial law requirement so they can choose what law they're obligated to. Both James and Paul say it's all or none. So if it's sin to murder by the law, it's also sin to cut/trim your beard or not have those little things on hem of your garments and a host of other things.

The Christian is delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) meaning all of the law. The law isn't for the righteous (1 Timothy 1:9).

I can fully agree with the above quote. The problem come when people freely oscillate between the law and grace to suit their every whim. The problem becomes emotional attachment to personal desires however they're created. When this occurs a rational and coherent discussion is impossible.

The reality is people refuse to drink plain water. It must be polluted with their favorite additive(s). That's why we drink a vast variety of beverages.

This is for all of us...(myself included)

Some will give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils in the last days...

1 Timothy 4:1

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

Some will keep the traditions of man to break the commandments of God...

Matthew 15:3-9,

3, But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4, For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. 5, But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou might be profited by me; 6, And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7, Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8, This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth, and honors me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9, But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Some will receive a knowledge of the truth for a while and follow it, then turn away from the truth, and will be lost...

Hebrews 6:4-8

4, For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7, For the earth which drinks in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8, But that which beares thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

Hebrews 10:26-27,

For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Others will twist scripture to their own destruction

2 Peter 3:16

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Others will promote keeping some of the 10 commandments but will find out too late they are lost because if you knowingly break one of the 10 commandments and are not repentant you are guilty before God of breaking all of God's Law and are in danger of the Judgement.

James 2:8-12

8, If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:
9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

In Christ Always!

The sabbath is ceremonial and on the stone tablets. But you claim ceremonial laws are done away with.

No friend that is not true. This is because the 4th commandments, God's 7th Day Sabbath (Exodus 20:8-11) has never been ceremonial a ceremonial law of Moses. It is one of the 10 commandments for a memorial and celebration of creation (Exodus 20:11; Ex 20 1:17). Why would I say God's Law (10 commandments) have been done away with when God's Word says what so ever God does is forever? (Ecc 3:14).

Did God make the 10 commandments ? Yes he did and what does the scripture say?

The Law of God (10 commandments) is the work of God (Ex 32:16) whatsoever God does is forever nothing can be added to it or taken away (Ecc 3:14). God's Law was spoken by God himself to His people (Ex 20:1-22). God’s 10 commandments are the spoken word of God (Ex 20:1-22). God’s Word does not pass away (Matt 25:35). Gods Law is still in force today (Ps 111:7-8, Rev 12:17, 14:12, 22:14, 1John 3:5-8, 1John 2:3-4; James 2:8-12 etc.). God’s Law reveals sin to us and the penalty of sin so we can see ourselves as we truly are sinners in need of a Saviour (Rom 6:23; Rom 3:20; 1John 3:4). It is the great standard of the judgement (Heb 10:26-28; Rom 1:29-32;2:-9;2Cor 5:10; Heb 9:27; Ecc 12:13-14, James 2:10-12, 1John 3:4, Acts 17:31). God's Law is our teacher revealing sin and brings us to Christ at the foot of the cross that we might be saved by faith by Him who loves us and washed us in His own blood as we have faith (Gal 3:24; Rev 1:5). God writes His Law in our hearts so that we become like him and we follow him because we love him (Heb 8:10-12) LOVE is the fulfilling (doing) of God's Law (Rom 13:10). This is why Jesus says to those that love him If you love me keep my commandments (John 14:15).

What does God's Word say about God's Law and the judgement?

James 2:8-12

8, If ye fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well: 9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

The 7th Day Sabbath is one of the 10 commandments (Ex 20:8-11) and as such those that knowingly and willfully reject it will be judged by it and will be in danger of the judgement.

In Christ Always!

Absolutely! God’s Word is forever because he made the 10 commandments. Here are some scriptures again.

LoveGodsWord wrote: Matthew 19:17, And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. listed replied:Nothing here but implied out of context meaning. This is intentional misrepresentation of God's Word.
Really? Let’s look at the context and the scriptures to make sure....

Matthew 19:18
He say unto him, which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

Matthew 19:19
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself
.

The context look fine to me

James isn't talking about works of the law.
Really? All this time I thought James was talking about the 10 commandments?

Context of the next scriptures are James 2:8-12…

James 2:17, Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:20, But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

LoveGodsWord said: 1 John 2:3-4, 3, And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4, He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. listed replied: Does this include those who refuse to accept the new covenant Scripture?
Yes indeed because it is those that have experienced the New Covenant that are keeping God’s Law through Faith in God’s Word. Those that say they know him and are disobedient to God’s Law are the ones lying and do not have truth in them.
LoveGodsWord wrote: James 2:10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. listed replied: Only for those who are under it.
Yes if you are breaking any of God’s Commandments you are guilty before God of breaking all of them.

James 2:8-11
8, If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: 9, But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. 10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11, For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

This includes the 4th commandment. The 7th Day Sabbath.

As mentioned in an earlier post none of the above scriptures have been addressed and none of the ones below. So I just left them in this post.

John 14:15, If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 15:10, If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Matthew 5:27-28,
27,Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28, But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

1 John 5:2-3,
2, By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3, For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

2 John 1:6,
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

Romans 7:7
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
v12, Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

Acts 17:30 In times of this ignorance God winks at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Hebrews 10:26-27
26, For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

I sometimes wonder why people debate. What is the point? Both sides quote their favoured scriptures, refuse to accept what the other side states or reasons, and both leave the debate with their preconceived set beliefs they had before they entered the debate Intact.

God’s Law in the NC is written on our hearts it is through love and it is love the fulfils God’s Law in us as we walk not after the flesh but after the spirit and is why Jesus says f you love me keep my commandments. (John 14:15; John 15:10). If we knowingly break one of God’s commandments we commit sin (1 John 3:4). This includes the 7th Day Sabbath which Jesus made for us and commands us to keep as a holy day.
