Exodus 30:23-24 (NLT)
23 “Collect choice spices—12 1⁄2 pounds of pure myrrh, 6 1⁄4 pounds of fragrant cinnamon, 6 1⁄4 pounds of fragrant calamus, 24 and 12 1⁄2 pounds of cassia—as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel. Also get one gallon of olive oil.

Footnotes:
  1. 30:23 Hebrew 500 [shekels] [5.7 kilograms] of pure myrrh, 250 [shekels] [2.9 kilograms] of fragrant cinnamon, 250 [shekels] of fragrant calamus.
  2. 30:24a Hebrew 500 [shekels] [5.7 kilograms] of cassia.
  3. 30:24b Hebrew 1 hin [3.8 liters] of olive oil.
Although Moses recorded the recipe for the "שמן משחת־קדש" (shemen mishkhat kodesh or holy anointing oil) there was never an oil like that one which Moses used to anoint the ark of the covenant, the menorah, and all the implements of the tabernacle.

Are the spices important to this anointing oil?

Yes to all but one. Middle Eastern calamus contains beta asarone. It is psychoactive, but it is also carcinogenic. Go back and study the original Hebrew word (קְנֵה-בֹשֶׂם) and you'll find the answer. I don't think God would instruct his people to use over six pounds of a poisonous carcinogen in the Holy Anointing Oil.

The Greeks were the first to translate the original Hebrew. That translation was called the Septuagint, it began back in the third century BC. There were some serious errors made in that translation and they continued into later translations.

I hope this helps.
God bless.

True sister, calamus does have its medicinal uses but it is used internally by chewing the root or smoking it in small quantities. In India, they use it to bolster the 5th chakra. Still, its use is not practical.

It should never be used in large quantities, and even if it is used in small amounts, never use it for prolonged periods of time.

Calamus is a shamanic plant, but its medicinal properties are limited and if used incorrectly, it can be dangerous or even deadly. Studies that last longer than a year show that even very low-dose supplementation can cause organ damage and intestinal tumors.

The only calamus the Hebrews would have had available to them contained beta-asarone which is not suitable for use in high quantities as it would be detrimental to the health of anyone involved.

The toxicity and carcinogenicity of asarone means that it may be difficult to develop practical anthelmintics and insecticides based on it.
• Perrett, Sheena; Whitfield, Philip J. (1995). "Anthelmintic and pesticidal activity of Acorus gramineus (Araceae) is associated with phenylpropanoid asarones". Phytotherapy Research. 9 (6): 405. doi:10.1002/ptr.265009060

Look at the other ingredients in the oil. Cassia and cinnamon. These herbs increase the flow of blood to the skin by vasodilating the vessels in the skin. The Hebrews intended on absorbing the קַנְבָּס through their skin and inhaling it in large quantities in an enclosed tent. Sweet flag (calamus) is not the herb they were referring to.

The oil was used in healing and communing with God. It does this by 'making you holy.' Destroying the part of you that cuts you off from God, false ego. There are shamanic substances that chemically destroy the ego, but calamus is not one of them. As far as healing goes, the toxicity of calamus at high doses outweighs any beneficial effect it may have.

Look into what the Hebrews priests made their robes from. They considered this material to be very holy. They used the 'fragrant' part of the plant that they made their robes from in the oil.

At first, the oil was only allowed to be by the high priests and later by royalty as well. You'll notice the priests class is prone to corruption. They withheld it from the average person so that they could control them, and they wrote curses into the texts to scare people from using it.

Jesus came along later and gave the oil to everyone. He used it for profound healing. The same kind of profound healing you see by heavily stimulating the endocannabinoid system in the human body.

God Bless

The first spice: Myrrh

Myrrh relaxes the mind opening one up to the revelation. Myrrh is also incredibly medicinal. Check out the 'Myrrh' link to learn more about that.

The next two: Cinnamon and Cassia

Cassia is a kind of cinnamon. Both have their medicinal use. Again, check out the 'Cinnamon and Cassia' link to learn more about them.

However, their primary use in the Holy Anointing Oil is to increase the absorption through the skin for the kaneh-bosem.

The olive oil acted as a base to hold the kaneh-bosem's active compounds, and the active compounds of the myrrh, cinnamon, and cassia.

We have a system in our bodies that, when stimulated, heals us. It is called the endocannabinoid system. This system also opens us to divine revelations when the right intentionality is used.

Everything in the oil works together to both heal anybody who is anointed with it and put you in a non-regular state of consciousness to receive divine revelations and guidance free from your ego. It does this by fully saturating our endocannabinoid system.

It is very powerful. The kaneh-bosem is by far the most important ingredient, and it is the one that was misunderstood to be sweet flag in modern times.

Don't ask what plant the kaned-bosem is. If you don't already know, all of the clues are in my words.

Isaiah 5:20

Take care sister in Christ, anoint the sick.

Some how I have never read into it that it was ever God's intention that they enhale the smoke from it..

Hello brother,

As far as smoke from the Holy Anointing Oil, there would probably be some as a result of anointing the alter the with the oil, but they would burn קְנֵה-בֹשֶׂם on the Altar as incense. If I am not mistaken, it was acceptable for them to burn old unused oil.

Yes of course.but as an incense to G-D (and I type G-D as respect to this forum not because I believe I must.)
I'm just sure they were not to intentionally inhale it.

I'm familiar with convention. If you feel it is necessary for you, I respect that; you don't want to deface the name, and neither do I.

Yes, I agree that the incense was burnt as an offering to G-D. The texts mention nothing about the followers inhaling the incense directly over the altar in an intentional way as far as I can tell. I see mention of it in older Sumerian tablets, but not Hebrew.

G-D Bless

Thanks.
In ot scripture was annointing poured or smeared.

The psalms of course indicate poured..

Once Annointed to a specific reason task office or duty ..is it ever required or necassary to be Annointed AGAIN to that specific reason, task ,office or duty?

David was anointed with oil... once... so I am of the mind,.. that is the standard.
Ok .
I agree.
So a while back I heard this teaching that just sat 109% right with my heart.
And my motive in asking is to test it out.

The meaning behind the practice of “anointing”
Causes it to be a word fully interchangable (in English) with the word “ appoint”.

Not that it's the same word .but that it's the same result.

Anointed to a task = appointed to it.

Would you agree with the general picture of this.?

Yes that is correct. But did it mean anything the 2nd and 3rd Times?
Since it was God who stated it be done the first time. Were not the rest just empty religious acts for show. ?

And.

David was anointed three times -by Samuel (1 Sam. 16:13), by the men of Judah (2 Sam. 2:4), and by the elders of Israel (2 Sam. 5:3)

Solomon was anointed twice - 1 Kings 1:39, 1 Chron. 29:22
