He should listen to himself. Then he might realize what foolish is.

Bridgewater, New Jersey (CNN)President Donald Trump on Thursday denounced the removal of monuments to Confederate figures as "sad" and "so foolish," days after white supremacists and neo-Nazis took to Charlottesville, Virginia, to violently protest the planned removal of a statue of the Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

"Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments," Trump said in a series of tweets. "You can't change history, but you can learn from it."

If our culture is one of slavery, racism, and anti-Semitism then our culture needs to change.
Those statures will be just fine in history museums, cemeteries, and battlefield sites.

He is right. Removing them won't change our past or help us now. Like the Chinese cultural revolutionaries, those tearing down monuments will never be placated.
You don't think removing symbols of murder, rape, people sold on auction blocks, etc. from busy public places like parks, won't help to heal those memories?
I find that amazing.

Please tell me what harm would be done by putting them in museums, cemeteries, and battlefield sites?

The culture of our past did include all that and more. We have learned from it and are better for it. Those wanting the statues removed will protest having them in museums, or elsewhere.

"One-eighth of the whole population were colored slaves, not distributed generally over the Union, but localized in the southern part of it. These slaves constituted a peculiar and powerful interest. All knew that this interest was somehow the cause of the war. To strengthen, perpetuate, and extend this interest was the object for which the insurgents would rend the Union even by war, while the Government claimed no right to do more than to restrict the territorial enlargement of it." - President Lincoln (second inaugural address)

These confederate statues are about whitewashing history - not about actually representing history. They were created specifically to hide the true purpose of the civil war - which, as Lincoln stated, was to protect slavery - and to push the false narrative that confederates were heroes fighting for state rights. These confederates were a precursor to the Nazis. Like Germany, America should remove its statues dedicated to people pushing white supremacy and should instead orient its history towards accurately displaying and appreciating the evil and good in America's history.

I disagree, There are already Racist Images as well as News Pamphlets and other things to show how the Americans Treated and Felt about the Asians in the past shown in the Asian American Museums.

Robert E. Lee's Statue if anything belongs in a Museum or the History Books.

Again though, the left does not want Lee's statue (or numerous others) anywhere.

I support either choice IMO.
Robert E. Lee can still be remembered in the History books and or with pictures. What's the point of a Statue of him?

How can you honestly speak for every single person with liberal views? You certainly don't speak for me, because I'm liberal and I think these statues should be preserved in a museum.

Can't stand Trump or the wastes of space marching for white supremacist or Nazi ideals, but removing statues is not the answer.

You can't change the past and statues like those that were removed should be a very real reminder of what has happened and what not to allow to happen again.

How about the one that was pulled down, dented, and torn open by anarchist demonstrators in Charlottesville the other day? Is that going to look nice in any museum??

That should not have happened and it was illegal. I hope they find who did it and charge them.
