There's been much talk on these forums about tattoos. I've been having a strong desire to get a cross tattoo on the inside on my right arm, around the wrist area. For me it would symbolize my faith in God and if I added a scripture number then others might ask what it means, which would open the door for conversation and witnessing.

But then there are scripture versus that state not to pierce or mark our bodies and to remain humble and refrain from vanity. I understand that, but I wouldn't do it for vanity reasons.

I'm sorry to bring up the whole tattoo thing again, but I really need to hash this out in my own head because I don't see anything wrong with it IF you are doing it for good intentions. God knows our hearts and this is what I have always struggled with. Scripture vs our hearts. Sometimes it conflicts you know?

I think a more interesting question is,
"Will you go to Hell if you keep reminding others of eternal damnation?"

Start a thread?

:) Paul lots of love brother.

I think the question is genuine for him.

Are you serious? A tattoo that to you would symbolise your faith in God may send you to hell?

I only ask because scripture says no marking or piercings. So yes, I am serious. God said it for a reason but the intent behind it is not mentioned. I posed the question to gain more insight.

This was never my intent. The same as the tattoo principle.

That law was given to Israel, not gentiles, and it is OC law.
The law now is in your heart, it isn't a written down law anymore.
You know what law is in your heart, for you have heartfelt conviction you sin if you break it.
So pretend you never read that law in the OT. Would you then have heartfelt conviction you would be sinning by having the tattoo as you described?
If not, that law is not in your heart.

So the video explained it better for me, thank you. If I were to get a tattoo of a cross on my arm that will not condition me to ever except the mark of the beast. But I understand what he's saying in the video. As I thought, it's the intent behind the tattoo but we do have to be careful with markings that may be forced upon us without our heartfelt intent.

How can you know that any tattoo would "glorify God"? Who gets to be the decider in what tattoo could ever "glorify God" after He has said not to tattoo our bodies.

I never got any tattoos. I never wanted one. I could always find something better to to with the money. It was only years latter that I found out from Leviticus that the Lord didn't like us to get tattoos. If God told a group of people in 1437 BC that He didn't like them marking up their bodies with tattoos, He would also tell us the same thing in 2017.

But He probably won't send us to hell for it. Like Jesus said some will be called the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven, and some the least. And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

I imagine it like a pastor who just moved his family into a new house. The next morning he woke up to find that his 5 year old son had taken a sharpie and drawn Celtic crosses all across the brand new living room wall. The pastor probably won't yell at his son, but it shows a certain amount of disrespect.

I'm talking to this girl at a car dealership. She's getting them on her foot, and they're growing up her leg. She says that they're addictive. Now that she's started, she can't stop. I told her that she looks like she stepped into a bowl of M&M's. She laughs. It sometimes feels like the devil is trying to influence us to do everything that the Lord said NOT to do.

And it almost sounds like I can hear the adversary's thought process. The Lord says not to tattoo our bodies. The adversary then asks: well what if I Tattoo the Ten Commandments on my chest and a full size cross on my back? Would that be OK?

Maybe take some time to think about it.

You might change your mind next month.

"You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves:
I am the Lord.

There's no doubt regarding that person's favorite number apparently. That's sad though. What a lost soul. My intent for a small cross on the inside of my wrist is hardly in the same league for comparison. The photo is an example of an extreme case and the intent being vulgar.

My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also, and I'm sure other conversations have arisen as a result of her willingness to have it done. I'm sure motive is a significant factor.

So does Mrs. Cooldude68 have any ink?

Ok here is the question then.

Do you really need to know the reason God said what he did
before you will believe and obey?

Do you question what God said about Fornication?

No of coarse you don't, you take it as it is written.

Why then do you question other things God said not to do, do you think He might not have meant what He said?

You now only ask the question because you want to get one.

You are looking for justification from others, about something in your heart you feel (Believe) would be wrong to do.

You do not need to become a billboard for Christ, your life as a Christian is the WITNESS of your relationship with God.

God is fully capable of leading those to you He knows need to hear what you have to say about Him.........Without having one.

To answer your question, NO you will not go to hell because you get a tattoo, but think of it this way.

When Jesus was hanging on the Cross, how many tattoos do you think were visible on His body?

Bottom line, God said don't, and you know he said don't.
In a conversation with the Serpent, Eve questioned what God said too.

Do you also not wear garments made of two kinds of material? No cotton blends (Lev 19:19)

Do you assure you eat no fruit from trees 4 years or younger? (Lev 19:23-24)

Do you not round off the hair of your temple or trim your beard?
(Lev 19:27)?

All those are in the same chapter as the tattoo line.

Since tattoos are mentioned in the Old Testament, it is likely that they were rife in the communities, thus I am sure that the 'dying thief'may have had some, Did Christ say to him from the cross "Sorry son, you believe I am the Christ, BUT, you have some tattoos, so you can't get into Heaven" - THAT is NOT what I have read HE said.

Soooo, what your saying is, because the Law was replaced with the coming of the New Covenant, everything which was forbidden in the Old Covenant Law, is now legal to do?

What kind of a tattoo do you have?
