Below are some points of argument providing a biblical defense of a pretribulation rapture. For a further development of these and other arguments, you are encouraged to consult larger works, such as those listed at the end of this article. In The Rapture Question, for example, Walvoord offers fifty proofs of his pretribulation position.

1. The nature of the Tribulation as a time of wrath and judgment
Christ bore the full penalty for our sins on the cross. We have been delivered fully and finally from sin's condemnation (Jn. 5:24; Rom. 8:1). That separates us from one distinctive purpose of the Tribulation. In addition to chastening Israel and leading her to repentance, it will involve God's temporal judgment on the nations. It is a time when the Lord's indignation and wrath will be poured out on this godless world (Isa. 26:20-21; 34:1-3; Rev. 6:16-17; 11:18; 14:19; 15:1, 7; 16:1, 19; I Thess. 1:9-10; 5:9). It is repeatedly described as a time of judgment and punishment (Isa. 24:20- 21; Rev. 14:7; 15:4; 16:5-7; 19:2).

2. The Tribulation's unparalleled destruction and suffering
Without doubt, many Christians have, and will yet, suffer during the Church Age (II Tim. 3:12). From time to time, believers in a particular area do go through terrible trials. However, the Bible specifically teaches that the horrors of the Tribulation will be unique and world-wide in scope (Rev. 3:10; Isa. 34:2; 24:1, 4-5, 16-17, 13-21; Jer. 30:7; Matt. 24:21). When one reads of a quarter of the world's population being wiped out (Rev. 6:8), or of every creature in the sea dying (16:3), it becomes evident that this is no localized trial. Men will seek some way to die, but will find they are unable to (9:6). That will make this period utterly unique.

3. The certainty of Christ's promise that Christians will be kept from the Tribulation
If Church Age Christians are to be among the Tribulation martyrs of Revelation 7:14, then Christ did not keep His promise, given in Revelation 3:10, to preserve them from that world-wide trial. God promises to preserve us from the wrath to come (I Thess. 1:10; 5:9). In the context, the latter reference is dealing not with eternal damnation but with the earthly Day of the Lord, and God's judgment (5:2-3).

4. A clear distinction between Israel and the church
In the Tribulation, God once more takes up His program with Israel. The period is referred to as "the time of Jacob's trouble" (Jer. 30:7). It is the seventieth week of Daniel's prophecy concerning "your people and your holy city" (Dan. 9:24). Jesus' instructions regarding the Tribulation indicate that He has a Jewish audience in mind (Matt. 24:20). In his Systematic Theology (Vol. IV, pp. 47-53), Chafer lists twenty-four contrasts between Israel and the church. God's plan and program for each must be kept distinct. Only a pretribulation rapture allows adequately for this.

5. The contrast between the rapture and the second coming
The first relates specifically to the saints of the Church Age (Christians); the second relates to the fulfilment of Jehovah God's covenants with Israel. A study of Bible passages describing these events indicates that they are quite distinct in purpose, character and result. Christ will come in the air, secretly, to snatch away the church (I Thess. 4:13-18). Then He will return seven years later, visibly and in glory, to the earth to reign as Messiah-king over Israel and the world (Matt. 24:27, 30-31; 25:31-32). The two events must not be confused.

Jer 30:1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Jer 30:2 "Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: 'Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you.
Jer 30:3 For behold, the days are coming,' says the LORD, 'that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,' says the LORD. 'And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.' "
Jer 30:4 Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
Jer 30:5 "For thus says the LORD: 'We have heard a voice of trembling, Of fear, and not of peace.
Jer 30:6 Ask now, and see, Whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins Like a woman in labor, And all faces turned pale?
Jer 30:7 Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob's trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.
Jer 30:8 'For it shall come to pass in that day,' Says the LORD of hosts, 'That I will break his yoke from your neck, And will burst your bonds; Foreigners shall no more enslave them.
Jer 30:9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, And David their king, Whom I will raise up for them.
Jer 30:10 'Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,' says the LORD, 'Nor be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar, And your seed from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, And no one shall make him afraid.

The only way to see "the time of Jacob's trouble" is with a time machine set to return you to the time of the Babylonian captivity.

This is confirmed by the word "captivity" in the passage above.

It is also confirmed by the use of the word "land", which indicates a return from one land, instead of many lands.

Promoters of modern Dispensational Theology have ripped Jeremiah 30:7 out of its historical context in order to make their Two Peoples of God doctrine work.

What is the time of Jacob’s trouble?

The phrase "the time of Jacob's trouble" is a quote from Jeremiah 30:7 which says, "Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it" (KJV).

In the previous verses of Jeremiah 30, we find that the Lord is speaking to Jeremiah the prophet about Judah and Israel (30:3-4). In verse 3, the Lord promises that one day in the future, He will bring both Judah and Israel back to the land that He had promised their forefathers. Verse 5 describes a time of great fear and trembling. Verse 6 describes this time in a way that pictures men going through the pains of childbirth, again indicating a time of agony. But there is hope for Judah and Israel, for though this is called "the time of Jacob's distress" (NASB), the Lord promises He will save Jacob (referring to Judah and Israel) out of this time of great trouble (verse 7).

In Jeremiah 30:10-11 the Lord says, “‘I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their exile. Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid. I am with you and will save you,’ declares the LORD.”

Also, the Lord says He will destroy the nations who held Judah and Israel in captivity, and He will never allow Jacob to be completely destroyed. However, it should be noted that the Lord describes this as a time of discipline for His people. He says of Jacob, “Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.”

Jeremiah 30:7 says, "That day is great, so that none is like it.” The only time period that fits this description is the period of the Tribulation. This time is unparalleled in history.

Jesus described the Tribulation using some of the same imagery as Jeremiah. In Matthew 24:6-8, He stated that the appearance of false christs, wars and rumors of wars, famines, and earthquakes are "the beginning of birth pains."

Paul, too, described the Tribulation as birth pains. First Thessalonians 5:3 says, "While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety,’ destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape." This event follows the Rapture and the removal of the Church, in 4:13-18. In 5:9, Paul reemphasizes the absence of the Church from this time period by saying, "For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ." The wrath spoken of here is God's judgment on the unbelieving world and His discipline of Israel during the Tribulation.

These “birth pains” are described in detail in Revelation 6-12 Part of the purpose of the Tribulation is to bring Israel back to the Lord.

For those who have received Christ as Savior from sin, the time of Jacob's trouble is something for which we should praise the Lord, for it demonstrates that God keeps His promises. He has promised us eternal life through Christ our Lord, and He has promised land, seed, and blessing to Abraham and his physical descendants. However, before He fulfills those promises, He will lovingly but firmly discipline the nation of Israel so that they return to Him.

You are attempting to make the Greek words for "wrath" and "tribulation" the same word, which they are not.

God is not going to pour out His wrath on the following people.

Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

FYI, the wrath of God is precisely what the Great Tribulation is. Your claim that I try to make the two Greek words, tribulation and wrath the sake is more of your presumptuous nonsense.

The present population of Israel is about 9 million. Were the GT to begin tomorrow and run its 3.5 year course, they would end up with only 3 million left, as recorded in the following:

Zech.13:8 "In the whole land,” declares the Lord,

“two-thirds will be struck down and perish;

yet one-third will be left in it.

9This third I will put into the fire;

I will refine them like silver

and test them like gold.

They will call on my name

and I will answer them;

I will say, ‘They are my people,’

and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ”

You seem to be unaware that all of those in the modern State of Israel are not Jewish.

The nation is also made up of Christians, many of which are from Arab bloodlines.

There are many Moslems.

There are also many atheists and agnostic, just like our nation.

Your numbers above are based on the false assumption that all of those now living in the modern State of Israel are Jewish.

What should be done with verse 9? Right now it's certain that the leader of the Knesset is not king David.

How did Peter interpret it on the Day of Pentecost?

Act 2:29 "Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Act 2:30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,
Act 2:31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
Act 2:32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.
Act 2:33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
Act 2:34 "For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, "SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
Act 2:35 TILL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL." '
Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

King David was an adulterer and conspired to have Uriah killed.
It was the fruit of his loins that would be worthy to sit on the throne.

FYI, the wrath of God is precisely what the Great Tribulation is.

Wrath at the 6th seal

Revelation 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Wrath at the 7th trumpet.

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth

The wrath of the vials is the same wrath of the 6th seal and the 7th trumpet

Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

Revelation 15:7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

The wrath of satan.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time

All of the book of Revelation is not the wrath of God.

Most Christians understand the difference between Israel and the Church. Unfortunately, it takes others longer to get it.

Jesus is the founder and head of His Church. All those who believe in Him, are members of His body. While on the other hand, Israel rejected Jesus as their Messiah, and as non-believers, God let their temple be destroyed, along with Jerusalem, and sent them into an 1,878 year diaspora.

It's that simple to understand. The Church of Jesus Christ are all believers in Him. While Israel will not do so until Jesus second advent in Zech.12:18. Those are the two groups you deny!

The Church is not Israel, nor is Israel the Church! Capiche?!

You are in denial of what is plainly written in God's Word.

You say that Israel rejected Christ as their Messiah, but on the Day of Pentecost about 3,000 Israelites accepted Christ as their Messiah.
Peter addressed the crowd that day as "all the house of Israel" in Acts 2:36.

In Romans 11:1-5, the Apostle Paul declares himself to be an Israelite and also says there is a faithful remnant of Israelites during his time, just as there was during the time of Elijah.

The New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34 is found fulfilled by Christ in Hebrews 8:6-13, and is specifically applied to the Church in Hebrews 12:22-24, and 2 Corinthians 3:6-8. The Church and Israel cannot be separated in Hebrews 8:6-13, no matter how hard you try.

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of Israel found in Matthew 1:1.

He is the One Seed to whom the Abrahamic promise was made, according to Paul in Galatians 3:16.

He is the seed of the woman predicted in Genesis 3:15.

On the road to Emmaus He reveals that the whole Old Testament is about Him.

Luk 24:25 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

Luk 24:26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?"

Luk 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

You are replacing the New Covenant based on Grace with a modern doctrine based at least partly on race, which is an error according to 1 Timothy 1:4.

The bible talks about multiple thrones, the 12 disciples will have one Matthew 19:28. No reason that God will also give one to king David. I believe that's important to distinguish.

Peter says king David foresaw and understood God would raise up the Christ to sit on king David's throne and spoke about that. Hundreds of years later Jeremiah writes the God of Israel told him to tell them king David would be raised from the dead when He causes Israel to return from captivity. The disciples asked Jesus “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” and Jesus told them that they didn't know the time or season God would restore Israel. Obvious to them since king David had not been raised. So that still does not explain what to do with Jeremiah 30:9. We don't see a sovereign King with a Parliament of disciples serving Him in nation of Israel either today or back then.

We often get into trouble by basing our interpretation upon one verse from the Old Testament, instead of using the New Testament authors as our guide to interpretation.

You have just gone back to that same place, where we started this conversation.

There is no doubt based on Jeremiah 30:1-10, that Jeremiah was speaking of Israel's captivity in Babylon.
We know God did bring them back to the land after that time.
This is the context of the passage.

You are replacing the New Covenant based on Grace with a modern doctrine based at least partly on race, which is an error according to 1 Timothy 1:4.

.

You are the one who is in denial of theScriptural eschatology of the end times. The following is from another source of which I can provide you dozen more of that refute you.

Two other titles which are related to the coming Day of the Lord are the Time of Jacob’s Trouble and the Great Tribulation.1 Notice that all three involve the concept of an unparalleled time of trouble. Unparalleled implies two things concerning the time periods involved:
  1. Since there cannot be more than one unparalleled time of trouble, their time periods must overlap.2
  2. These events have not transpired in the past.3
Regarding the timing of the Great Tribulation, Jesus said
“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.” (Mtt. Mat. 24:15-22)

Jesus referred to this Daniel Dan. 9:27 “overspreading of abominations” in Matthew Mat. 24:15. Then He said, “then shall be Great Tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Mtt. Mat. 24:21), thereby indicating that the Great Tribulation will begin when the overspreading of abominations of Daniel Dan. 9:27 occurs. Since the Great Tribulation will begin when the overspreading of abominations occurs in the middle of the 70th week, we can conclude that the Great Tribulation will begin in the middle of the 70th week of Daniel, or after the first three and one-half years of that seven-year period have transpired.4

Notice Jesus says, “let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains” and “pray that your flight may not be . . . on the Sabbath.” There is an explicit Jewish element to this entire passage. This is because the events are related to the Time of Jacob’s Trouble described by Jeremiah:
‘For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ Now these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah. For thus says the LORD: ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask now, and see, whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins like a woman in labor, and all faces turned pale? Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.’ (Jer. Jer. 30:3-7)

Notice several important aspects within this passage:
  1. Jacob is Israel - Jacob fathered the 12 tribes and was given the name Israel by God (Gen. Gen. 32:28). Thus, this is describing a time of trouble specifically for the Jews.
  2. Gathering in the Land - This time of trouble occurs after Israel is gathered back in the Promised Land.
  3. Birth Pangs - The passage refers to every man acting “like a woman in labor.” How similar this is to the words of Jesus, “All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Mtt. Mat. 24:8). Sorrows (ωδιν [ōdin] ) indicates “a pang or throe, especially of childbirth.” [emphasis added]5
  4. A Unique Day - There is no other day like it.
  5. Results in Salvation - “But he shall be saved out of it.” Although the Jews undergo an extremely troubling time, salvation comes at the end.6
The Jewish aspect of this period can also be seen in the wider context of Micah’s well-known prophecy concerning the birthplace of Messiah:
Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; they will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek. But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. Therefore He shall give them up, until the time that she who is in labor has given birth; then the remnant of His brethren shall return to the children of Israel. And He shall stand and feed His flock In the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD His God; and they shall abide, for now He shall be great to the ends of the earth. (Mic. Mic. 5:1-4) [emphasis added]

Scripture record’s two pregnancies in relation to Messiah. The first labor terminates in the First Coming of Messiah (Rev. Rev. 12:2-4+). The second labor terminates in the ushering in of the Millennial Kingdom. It is this second period of labor, subsequent to the going forth of Messiah from Bethlehem, which Micah sets forth. This second labor leads to the millennial age: “For now He shall be great to the ends of the earth.” The time of Jacob’s trouble describes the labor pains associated with the second pregnancy.
“She who travaileth” does not refer to Israel bringing forth (giving birth to) Messiah, but to her last-day Tribulation travail (Jer. Jer. 30:5-7) in bringing forth a believing remnant, . . . Israel’s greatest and most anguishing sufferings of all her long and checkered history of woe will take place during the coming Great Tribulation (Rev. Rev. 8:1+-Rev. 20:3+). Her terrible travail pains that in God’s plan precede the joy of birth (cf. Mic. Mic. 4:9; cf. John John 16:21), will bring forth a regenerated nation to enter the joy of the Kingdom, which will be as unparalleled as the agony that introduces it.7

This period is mentioned in the book of Revelation and also Daniel which provides additional details as to its duration:8
Revelation Rev. 12:1+ states the length of time this persecution and hiding of the Jews in the wilderness will last . . . it will last 1,260 days (Rev. Rev. 12:6+) . . . Revelation Rev. 12:14+ states that Israel will hide in the wilderness from Satan for “a time, and times, and half a time.” Daniel Dan. 7:25 uses this identical time designation for the length of time that the Antichrist will persecute the saints of the 70th week. . . . Revelation Rev. 13:5-7+, when referring to this same persecution of 70th-week saints by the Antichrist, declares that it will last for 42 months, which equal three and one-half years. . . . The Jews will be persecuted and will hide in a wilderness area for three and one-half years, exactly one-half of the seven-year 70th week. . . . the Great Tribulation will be finished when God has completely shattered the obstinate rebellion of the nation of Israel against Him [Dan. Dan. 9:24; Dan. 12:7]. In other words, the Great Tribulation will end when Israel’s rebellion against God’s rule ends.9

Scofield summarizes the character of this unique period:
The elements of the tribulation are: (1) The cruel reign of the “beast out of the sea” (Rev. Rev. 13:1+), who, at the beginning of the three and a half years, will break his covenant with the Jews (by virtue of which they will have re-established the temple worship, Dan. Dan. 9:27), and show himself in the temple, demanding that he be worshipped as God (Mtt. Mat. 24:15; 2Th. 2Th. 2:4). (2) The active interposition of Satan “having great wrath” (Rev. Rev. 12:12+), who gives his power to the Beast (Rev. Rev. 13:4+, Rev. 13:5+). (3) The unprecedented activity of demons (Rev. Rev. 9:2+, Rev. 9:11+); and (4) the terrible “bowl” judgments of Rev. Rev. 16:1+.10

Although the book of Revelation indicates that all those living on the earth immediately prior to the return of Jesus will be involved in troublesome times, this is especially true for the Jews. This is because God applies judgment first and more fully to those who have greater revelation and responsibility (Amos Amos 3:2; Luke Luke 12:48).11
While it is true that all will suffer during that time, Israel will suffer more so. The basic reason for this lies in Israel’s relationship to God as God’s first born (Ex. Ex. 4:22) and, therefore, Israel receives double, both in blessing and cursing. The principle that Israel receives double for all her sins is stated in Isaiah Isa. 40:1-2 . . . It is also found in Jeremiah Jer. 16:16-18. The principle of Israel’s receiving double for all her sins is the reason why the Tribulation is uniquely the Time of Jacob’s Trouble.12

Stanton shows the Jewish character of the period by saying: Deu. 4:30; Jer. Jer. 30:7; Eze. Eze. 20:37; Dan. Dan. 12:1; Zec. Zec. 13:8-9), by the Olivet Discourse of Christ (Mtt. Mat. 24:9-26), and by the book of Revelation itself (Rev. Rev. 7:4-8+; Rev. 12:1-2+, Rev. 12:17+ etc.). It concerns ‘Daniel’s people,’ the coming of ‘false Messiah,’ the preaching of the ‘gospel of the kingdom,’ flight on the ‘sabbath,’ the temple and the ‘holy place,’ the land of Judea, the city of Jerusalem, the twelve ‘tribes of the children of Israel,’ the ‘son of Moses,’ ‘signs’ in the heavens, the ‘covenant’ with the Beast, the ‘sanctuary,’ the ‘sacrifice and the oblation’ of the temple ritual—these all speak of Israel and prove that the tribulation is largely a time when God deals with His ancient people prior to their entrance into the promised kingdom.”13

Our study of the book of Revelation will greatly benefit by keeping in mind the purposes God has for this period of time:
The first purpose is to make an end of wickedness and wicked ones (Isa. Isa. 13:9; Isa. Isa. 24:19-20) . . . The second purpose of the Tribulation is to bring about a worldwide revival (Rev. Rev. 7:1-7+) . . . The Third purpose of the Tribulation is to break the power of the stubborn will of the Jewish nation (Dan. Dan. 12:5-7; Eze. Eze. 20:33-38).14

The Old Testament presents at least five purposes for the Tribulation. 1 . The Tribulation will complete the decreed period of national Israel’s judicial hardening as punishment for its rejection of the messianic program, which the partial return from exile did not remove and which culminated in the national rejection of Jesus (Isa. Isa. 6:9-13; Isa. 24:1-6; cf. John John 12:37-41; Rom. Rom. 11:7-10). 2 . It will produce a messianic revival among Jewish people scattered throughout the world (Deu. Deu. 4:27-30; cf. Rev. Rev. 7:1-4+; Mtt. Mat. 24:14). 3 . The Tribulation will convince the Jewish nation of their need for the Messiah in order to produce a national regeneration (Dan. Dan. 12:5-7; Jer. Jer. 31:31-34; Eze. Eze. 20:34-38; Eze. 36:25-27; Eze. 37:1-14; Zec. Zec. 12:9-Zec. 13:2; Isa. Isa. 59:20-21). This will result in a massive return of Jews to the land of Israel (Zec. Zec. 8:7-8; Eze. Eze. 36:24; Eze. 37:21). 4 . It will end the time of the Gentiles and effect the deliverance of the Jewish people from Gentile dominion (Isa. Isa. 24:21-23; Isa. 59:16-20; cf. Mtt. Mat. 24:29-31; Mark Mark 13:24-27; Rom. Rom. 11:25). 5 . The Tribulation will purge the earth of wicked people in order to establish the Messianic Kingdom in righteousness (Isa. Isa. 13:9; Isa. 24:19-20; Eze. Eze. 37:23; Zec. Zec. 13:2; Zec. 14:9; Isa. Isa. 11:9). This violent reduction of the world’s unbelieving population will result from the divine judgments unleashed throughout the Tribulation (Rev. Rev. 6:1+-Rev. 18:1+), climaxing with the Battle of Armageddon under King Messiah (Rev. Rev. 19:1+) and His purge of rebel Jews and oppressive Gentiles at the end of the Tribulation (Eze. Eze. 20:33-38; Mtt. Mat. 25:31-46).15

Mat. 24:15-22)
It is well documented that not a single Christian perished in the destruction of Jerusalem and Judea in 70 AD. If they had believed that Christ was speaking of a futurized tribulation which would not occur for thousands of years, they would have disregarded His warning to flee to the mountains (Matthew 24:16). Most or all would have perished.

Instead, the Christians understood that Christ had been speaking of events which would unfold in their generation. As the signs materialized, they heeded His warning, fled to the mountains, and survived without a single loss of life.

This was no futurized tribulation.

I would say we often get in trouble when we believe we have it all figured out.

New testament authors show that the disciples believed that the kingdom had not yet been restored to Israel as Acts 1:6 indicates. Historically they did return but understood they still had a yoke on their necks, namely the Roman empire, so there are problems with Jeremiah 30:8. Given the two Roman-Jewish wars around 70's and 130's AD, it's not as if there was no more fear. So Jeremiah 30:10 doesn't exist in the land after much of Israel has returned. There's a lot more going on in all those verses than the just returning from Babylon would indicate, considering that Jeremiah is relaying a message from the LORD.

Scofield also said the following in the notes of the Scofield Reference Bible.

Scofield said the Gospel preached during the end of the tribulation period is not the Gospel of Grace.

How then are those living during that time going to be saved, if they are not saved by the Gospel of Grace?

..................................................................................................
Revelation 14:6

gospel
Gospel. This great theme may be summarized as follows:
I. In itself, the word Gospel means good news.
II. Four forms of the Gospel are to be distinguished:
(1) The Gospel of the kingdom. This is the good news that God purposes to set up on the earth, in fulfilment of the Davidic Covenant: (2Sa_7:16): a kingdom, political, spiritual, Israelitish, universal, over which God's Son, David's heir, shall be King, and which shall be, for one thousand years, the manifestation of the righteousness of God in human affairs.

(See Scofield) - (Mat_3:2).

Two preachings of this Gospel are mentioned, one past, beginning with the ministry of John the Baptist, continued by our Lord and His disciples, and ending with the Jewish rejection of the King. The other is yet future (Mat_24:14) during the great tribulation, and immediately preceding the coming of the King in glory.

(2) The Gospel of the grace of God. This is the good news that Jesus Christ, the rejected King, has died on the cross for the sins of the world, that He was raised from the dead for our justification, and that, by Him, all that believe are justified from all things. This form of the Gospel is described in many ways. It is the Gospel...
"of God" (Rom_1:1) because it originates in His love;
"of Christ" (2Co_10:14) because it flows from His sacrifice, and because He is the alone Object of Gospel faith;
of the "grace of God" (Act_20:24) because it saves those whom the law curses;
of "the glory"; (1Ti_1:11); (2Co_4:4) because it concerns Him who is in the glory, and who is bringing the many sons to glory; (Heb_2:10);
of "our salvation" (Eph_1:13) because it is the "power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth"; (Rom_1:16);
of "the uncircumcision" (Gal_2:7) because it saves wholly apart from forms and ordinances of "peace" (Eph_6:15) because through Christ it makes peace between the sinner and God, and imparts inward peace.

(3) The everlasting Gospel. (Rev_14:6). This is to be preached to the earth-dwellers at the very end of the great tribulation and immediately preceding the judgment of the nations (Mat_15:31). It is neither the Gospel of the kingdom, nor of grace. Though its burden is judgment, not salvation, it is good news to Israel and to those who, during the tribulation, have been saved; (Rev_7:9-14); (Luk_21:28); (Psa_96:11-13); (Isa_35:4-10).

(4) That which Paul calls, "my Gospel" (Rom_2:16). This is the Gospel of the grace of God in its fullest development, but includes the revelation of the result of that Gospel in the outcalling of the church, her relationships, position, privileges, and responsibility. It is the distinctive truth of Ephesians and Colossians, but interpenetrates all of Paul's writings.

III. There is "another Gospel" (Gal_1:6); (2Co_11:4) "which is not another," but a perversion of the Gospel of the grace of God, against which we are warned. It has many seductive forms, but the test is one -- it invariably denies the sufficiency of grace alone to save, keep, and perfect, and mingles with grace some kind of human merit. In Galatia it was law, in Colosse fanaticism (Col_2:18); etc. In any form, its teachers lie under the awful anathema of God.

(See Scofield) - (Heb_1:4).

Mat_4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

Mat_9:35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Mat_11:5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Mat_24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Mat_26:13 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."

Mar_1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Mar_1:14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Mar_1:15 and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."

Mar_8:35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.

Mar_10:29 So Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's,

Mar_13:10 And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.

Mar_14:9 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."

Mar_16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Luk_4:18  "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;

Luk_7:22 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Luk_9:6 So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Luk_20:1 Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him

Act_8:25 So when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.

Act_14:7 And they were preaching the gospel there.

Act_14:21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,

Act_15:7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: "Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.

Act_16:10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Act_20:24 But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Rom_1:1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God

Rom_1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,

Rom_1:15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.

Rom_1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Rom_2:16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

Rom_10:15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS!"

Rom_10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?"

Rom_11:28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers.

Rom_15:16 that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Rom_15:19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Rom_15:20 And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation,

Rom_15:29 But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

Rom_16:25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began

1Co_1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.

1Co_4:15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

1Co_9:12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

1Co_9:14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.

1Co_9:16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

1Co_9:18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.

1Co_9:23 Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

1Co_15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,

2Co_2:12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,

2Co_4:3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,

2Co_4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

2Co_8:18 And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches,

2Co_9:13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men,

2Co_10:14  For we are not overextending ourselves (as though our authority did not extend to you), for it was to you that we came with the gospel of Christ;

2Co_10:16 to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's sphere of accomplishment.

2Co_11:4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!

2Co_11:7 Did I commit sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge?

Gal_1:6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel,

Gal_1:7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Gal_1:8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

Gal_1:9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Gal_1:11 But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

Gal_2:2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated to them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who were of reputation, lest by any means I might run, or had run, in vain.

Gal_2:5 to whom we did not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

Gal_2:7 But on the contrary, when they saw that the gospel for the uncircumcised had been committed to me, as the gospel for the circumcised was to Peter

Gal_2:14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?

Gal_3:8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed."

Gal_4:13 You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first.

Eph_1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Eph_3:6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,

Eph_6:15  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph_6:19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Php_1:5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

Php_1:7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

Php_1:12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,

Php_1:17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.

Php_1:27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

Php_2:22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.

Php_4:3 And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.

Php_4:15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.

Col_1:5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel,

Col_1:23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

1Th_1:5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

1Th_2:2 But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.

1Th_2:4 But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

1Th_2:8 So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

1Th_2:9 For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

1Th_3:2 and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,

2Th_1:8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Th_2:14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Ti_1:11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.

2Ti_1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,

2Ti_1:10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

2Ti_2:8 Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel,

Phm_1:13 whom I wished to keep with me, that on your behalf he might minister to me in my chains for the gospel.

Heb_4:2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.

1Pe_1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into.

1Pe_1:25 BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

1Pe_4:6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

1Pe_4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

Rev_14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—

"of God" (Rom_1:1) because it originates in His love;
"of Christ" (2Co_10:14) because it flows from His sacrifice, and because He is the alone Object of Gospel faith;
of the "grace of God" (Act_20:24) because it saves those whom the law curses;
of "the glory"; (1Ti_1:11); (2Co_4:4) because it concerns Him who is in the glory, and who is bringing the many sons to glory; (Heb_2:10);
of "our salvation" (Eph_1:13) because it is the "power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth"; (Rom_1:16);
of "the uncircumcision" (Gal_2:7) because it saves wholly apart from forms and ordinances of "peace" (Eph_6:15) because through Christ it makes peace between the sinner and God, and imparts inward peace.

Luk_4:18  "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;
