Peace.
The garden of Eden and the rivers are allegories.
God quickens us in Christ. He makes us alive who were dead in trespasses and sin where in times past we walked according to the course of this world. We were once of the common “ground” of mankind…that is, the red ground or the Adamah…where we in times past were a part of this world fulfilling the lusts of our flesh, the desires of the flesh and of the mind being children of wrath just like the rest of the world.
Ephesians 2:1-6 KJV
(1) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
(2) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
(3) Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
(4) But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
(5) Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved
(6) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
But we are washed from our sins…from the works of the flesh (taken from the Adamah) and the Lord gives us His Spirit in the Lord Jesus... the second Man who is from heaven. The “ground” = adamah.
Genesis 2:7-8 KJV
(7) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
We were washed from the works of the flesh and now we are to work and keep His commandments (the “garden”)….delighting (the meaning of “Eden” = delight) in them that are planted with us to keep. We are to rejoice in the Lord and keep His commandments and He shall delight in us.
(8) And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
This the whole duty of “man” (Hebrew: ADAM)…. to fear God and keep His commandments.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
(13) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
The whole duty of man is to work ("dress") and keep the “garden” of Eden….delighting in His commandments. Of every tree of the garden we are to freely eat.
Genesis 2:15-16 KJV
(15) And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
(16) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
Of every tree of the garden we may freely eat: There is no law against the fruit of the Spirit….love, peace, joy, gentleness, etc. We have been washed from the works of the flesh (the adamah) in the blood of Jesus (the last Adam who is from heaven). “Adam” = “red”….and signifies being washed from the red ground in the blood of Jesus.
Galatians 5:18-26 KJV
(18) But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
(19) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
(20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
(21) Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(23) Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(24) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
(25) If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
(26) Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
God gives us the will to do His commandments ...to do His good pleasure (Eden)... through His Spirit (a river went out of Eden to water the garden = His Spirit giving us the will to do His commandments).
Philippians 2:12-13 KJV
(12) Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
(13) For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
The fleshly mind (the "adamah"....the red ground) is not subject to the law of God nor can it be. There is no delight in the fleshly mind to do the good will of God. The fleshly mind is hostility towards God and cannot please Him. The carnal mind is outside of the garden of Eden because it does not ….it can not ….keep and delight in working God’s commandments as the Spirit of God does not dwell in them.
Romans 8:5-9 KJV
(5) For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
(6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
(7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
(8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
If any man has not the Spirit of Christ, then he is not of Him.
(9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
But only those who live according to the Spirit (that dwells in them) can please God.
From the garden the river (the Spirit) was parted and became into four heads. The Spirit will go out into all of the world through us as living waters shall flow from our hearts.
Genesis 2:10-12 KJV
(10) And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
The name of the first is “Pison” which means “dispersive” or to “spread”. It compasses the whole land of “Havilah” which means “circular” . This is the preaching of the gospel…the good Word of God….by the Spirit. We are to spread the gospel to the “circle” of the earth…all of the world…all 4 corners. Havilah = the circle of this earth.
(11) The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;
(12) And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
When we do His will, we can then be useful to preach the good news to this world.
The first “river” is to spread (Pison = dispersive) the gospel (preach the good news) into ALL of the world…all 4 corners of this earth. We have the "great commission" in the first of the rivers.
The “gold” that is found there is the tried and tested FAITH. He that BELIEVES (the gold that is good) and is “baptized”…that is, be found putting on Christ at the hearing of the Spirit…shall be saved (healed). Believing is active. Faith without good works towards what we hear the Spirit saying is dead. Go into ALL the world...the circle of the earth...Havilah.
Mark 16:15-16 KJV
(15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
(16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
There is “bdellium”….which means “something in pieces” and refers to the sacrifices of those who will hear and believe what they hear the Spirit saying. They shall be found of a broken spirit…a broken and contrite spirit (breath) towards the hearing of the Spirit of God.
Psalms 51:15-19 KJV
(15) O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
(16) For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
(17) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
God shall build the believers into a house…as we are to be a spiritual house….
(18) Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
(19) Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar
The believers will be found walking in love….keeping the sacrifice of our Lord….the sweet savor of Christ....bdellium.
Ephesians 5:1-2 KJV
(1) Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
(2) And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
We keep His sacrifice (His body was broken for us...bdellium) by walking in love with one another. We are to hear what the Spirit from heaven is saying and give thanks and be found of a "broken" spirit ...keeping the sacrifice of our Lord.
Luke 22:19 KJV
(19) And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
The “onyx” stone...Christ is the foundation and we are to be living stones built by the Lord into a spiritual house whose foundation is Jesus Christ. We are to be laborers together with God in the building of the spiritual house.
1 Corinthians 3:9-11 KJV
(9) For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
(10) According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
(11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Except the Lord build the house, men labor in vain that build it. The churches of fleshly men are built in vain as they do these things in their envy and strife and covetousness…preaching the doctrines and commandments of fleshly-minded men.
Psalms 127:1 KJV
(1) A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
We shall raise the foundations of many generations and be called “the repairer of the breach”….
Isaiah 58:12 KJV
(12) And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
The second river is “Gihon” which means to “break forth”. The land of “Ethiopia” or Cush is this dark world as it signifies darkness.
Genesis 2:13 KJV
(13) And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
Our light shall “break forth” as the morning. Our health shall spring forth speedily.
Isaiah 58:
(8) Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
(9) Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
This light shall break forth in the darkness of this world as others shall see the life of Jesus being made manifest in our mortal flesh.
(10) And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
The light shall break forth (Gihon = break forth) in this dark world and they shall see His glory upon us.
Isaiah 60:1-4 KJV
(1) Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
(2) For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
(3) And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
(4) Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.
We shall shine as lights in the world as we hold for the Word of life….
Philippians 2:14-18 KJV
(14) Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
(15) That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
(16) Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
(17) Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.
(18) For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me.
