We have been justified/given right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, but perfection is a life-long process. Perfection is usually attained through suffering.
Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world but
be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may
prove what is the will of God, what is
good and acceptable and perfect. rsv
2 Corinthians 7:1
Since we have these promises, beloved,
let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and
make holiness perfect in the fear of God. rsv
Philippians 3:8-14
Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith; 10
that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 12
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. rsv
Romans 5:2-5
Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. rsv
Romans 8:16-17
it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and
fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. rsv
Philippians 1:29
For it has been granted to you that
for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, rsv
2 Thessalonians 1:5
This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God,
that you may be made worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering— rsv
Revelation 3:2
Awake, and strengthen what remains and is on the point of death, for
I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God. rsv
We will not see God until after we have been made perfect/pure in heart.

must be perfect, as
your heavenly Father is perfect. rsv

pure in heart, for they shall
see God. rsv
Isaiah's lips had to be purified/cleansed before he could speak for God.
Isaiah 6:1-8
In the year that King Uzzi′ah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. 2 Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
6 Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven.” 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” rsv
Peter teaches us how to be made worthy to inherit eternal life.
2 Peter 1:3-11
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature. 5 For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these things is blind and shortsighted and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be the more zealous to confirm your call and election, for if you do this you will never fall; 11 so there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. rsv
