Hi everyone!

I got an idea the other day while I was taking notes on a sermon and thought it would be fun to share with others and have them share what they took away from the sermon they heard.

So, after listening to your Minister, Priest, Pastor, Rabbi speak for about 20 minutes, what did you 'get' out of the sermon?

PARABLES

From my notes on this past weeks Lesson it was about Parables.

Did you know that there's some confusion on why Yeshua/Jesus spoke in parables?

What are parables? Some mistakenly think that parables are like riddles, they are told a certain way to conceal their true meaning.

This misunderstanding comes from passages like in Mark 4:10-12 where he quotes from Isaiah 6:9-10 but that is interposed into the re-telling as he is still talking to the common people , it is better understood by reading

Mark 4:33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

It wasn't because he was trying to hide things from those who came to listen to him but it was about a teaching method.

A parable was like an allegory and it was a method of the day and even previous to Jesus/Yeshua coming to earth and used by many of the Rabbis as a teaching method.

This was a common Rabbinic teaching device to simplify a complex concept.

So it wasn't just a 'Jesus thing' but a 'Jewish thing'!

One third of his teachings were done in parables, he used over 30 different ones recorded in the Gospels and most likely many many more (John 21:25)

So parables aren't riddles they are quite the opposite, trying to help teach a concept by simplifying it so it can be understood.

When it says:But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

It just means he spoke plainly with them as from his other teachings with them he knew they would understand.

Easy and Light

Joel Osteen

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE:
"For My yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
(Matthew 11:30, ESV)

TODAY'S WORD:

God doesn’t want you to go through life constantly struggling, always burdened down, or always fighting against something. Yes, we know that trials and tribulations will come in this life. There may be seasons that are more difficult than others; but, we can’t just settle where we are and accept that it’s always going to be this way. Just like God led the Israelite's into the Promised Land, He wants to lead you to a good land with no shortage and no lack. He wants to cause you to remain in His provision and blessing.

The key is that when difficulty comes, instead of focusing on where you are, instead of dwelling on how things won’t work, turn your focus toward Him. Lift up your eyes to heaven. Cast your cares on the Lord. Don’t let the heaviness of the world drag you down. Put your faith and hope in Him knowing that He has good things in store for your future. Keep praying, keep believing and keep trusting because His yoke is easy, His burden is light, and He’s leading you into your promised land.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father God, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. Today, I choose to cast my cares on You, I choose to release the weight of my burdens to You. Thank You for setting me free and aligning me to walk in victory in every area of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen!
