Global temps are cyclical. Look at history. The fact that temps have risen 1 degree in the last hundred years means nothing. M

First, it's over 1 degree. Second, reliable records only go back a century, so how do you know it fluctuates a degree a century? You can't use history. Third, the rise is correlated with the increase in greenhouse gasses. 4. It certainly does mean something, because, as just one example, penguins that have lived for tens of thousands of years (as measured by guano) on islands around S. America are moving south because it is too warm.

Global warming seems to be a highly charged and highly politicized issue. Climates do change, over the long run they are always in a state of change.

In this case the "charged and highly politicized issue" comes not from climate change itself, but whether the warming is caused by human activity and will constitute a threat to our civilization. If both are true, then humans can affect the rise in temperature, but only by taking steps that are inconvenient and costly.

Instead of addressing whether we ought to take those steps, the tactic is to deny the phenomenon. No global warming, then nothing to decide.

Wow. Another person confusing global temperature with climate with weather. How fun!

It's very simple: Just because average global temperature rises, doesn't mean it gets hotter everywhere. It's that sneaky "average" bit.

Global warming predicts cooling trends in some regions, warming trends in others. Global warming affects climate which effects weather.

Ok 40 years ago they were predicting that we were headed for another ice age. This was using some of the same data that they are using now to predict global warming.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It’s true and we have evidence that our global climate has been warming up since the last ice age. But then before that we have evidence of a much warmer climate, so we must think that something must have triggered global warming and greenhouse effects in the past. But then evidence proves that something happened (we don’t know what) and we started global cooling up to the aforementioned ice age. Then again something happened and we stared warming again. Not until recently have they started blaming it on what man has done to the atmosphere. It might have just been a coincident that a lot of companies that our elected officials had interest in started making tons of money from this but who knows, maybe they were just smart investors. But one thing you can count on and that is no matter what happens to the climate over the next 50 years it will never overthrow the ideas of global warming. If you don’t know why then your not paying attention here. So if whatever reversed global warming back thousands of years ago happen again I truly believe it would be something not publicly mentioned by the media. If you don’t think the government has covered up things in the past in order to protect the interest of elected officials then you are leading a sheltered life.

It is easy, just cut and paste in into notepad first. It is a primitive program and it will get rid of all that junk.

Why in this day and age of advanced technology should we have to submit ourselves to nature. Why don't we just build a couple of really big fans, then we could blow some cool air out to death valley so it does not get so hot there. We could blow some of the warm air up north here in the winter so it does not get so cold here. Maybe for the sake of people who like winter sports we can give them 6 weeks of winter to do their thing, but then we turn the fan on and blow the warm air in here to heat things up a bit.

I suspect John that we would be using some very exotic materials for this king of thing. An off the cuff sizing of the fan would be something in the order of several kilometers high for one unit. We'd need several hundred of these with their associated ducting since it would be hard to generate wind speeds with the momentum to carry the distance to which you refer. Numerous nuclear power stations would be required to drive the units. You should keep in mind that this whole concept may not be feasible. If it were possible the heat generated by the power plants may be self defeating.

I prefer the idea of towing icebergs to the hot areas, and volcanoes to the cold ones.

Yeah, well, the snow is always whiter on the other side of the fense :)

Or maybe we could just adjust the tilt of the earth by a half a degree, that should warm things up a bit during the winter. Although when all the ice up at the north pole melts we could have global flooding.

Well here is some more junk for you.

In Indiana it was hard to believe of any global warming.

I checked Alaska and it was warmer there most of the winter.

We have had snow every since Dec 24 our first big snow of the year of 2002.

It would warm up just a bit and melt some and guess what another snow.

The ground has not been clear of snow since the first snow fall.

Here is the good news it is now 62 degrees and spring is in the air.

The only snow left is shoveled up in big piles in shopping parking lots.

I am so happy today I feel almost giddy.

We are finally going to see spring. :D

Yeah, we can finally get out and clean up the yard a bit. I have to repair the corner of my garage where the guy ran into it with the snow plow. Or maybe I will let the insurance company take care of it. Either way, there is lots to do. I am surprised the water damage here is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But it is usually the spring rain that does the real damage, so I have to get everything sealed up before all the rains come.

:) Yeah JohnR7 I think your winter has been pretty much the same as ours.

I thought I was stuck in the driveway but once the snow melted found it to be just a tad of yard there got to fix that.

I just thank God for this beautiful day don't you?

When we have a winter as such as we just did it makes the spring seem better. :D

I love how 20 or 30 years ago, it was all about an imminent "ice age," and now it's a "global warming."

:p

I heard a strange quote yesterday.... some official somebody said he was more worried about global warming than about the Iraq situation.

Some people just not happy less they worry.

Yep either we freeze in an ice cube or we burn and scorch to death.

I prefer to believe that God is in control.

It is all going to be alright.

Yes it is!!

DNAunion: Yeah, I was going to point out the absurdity of John's apparently serious suggestion, but what you said should cover it.

However, how do you propose we tow volcanoes to cold areas?
