First off run as fast and as far as you can from Joyce Meyer or any other charlatan like her. That is the Holy Spirit leading you.
Secondly, it is important to know the Holy Spirit is God. Acts 5:3-4, 2 Corinthians 3:17, 2 Corinthians 13:14 You need a right concept about him if you are to believe.
The following is taken from my own personal CF blog:
Acts 2:39 will be the main text for this teaching on the Promise of the Holy Spirit. I could use many, but this will suffice. It is my hope tonfirst establish the guarantee that the Holy Spirit is for every single person who reads this post. I pray you approach this with an open mind. I will be using the Bible app, English Standard Version, to quote scriptures.
“For
the promise is for you and for
your children and
for all who are far off,
EVERYONE whom the Lord our God calls to himself."”
Acts 2:39 ESV (Emphasis added)
Here Peter is speaking to the crowds at Pentecost that heard him and the 120 speaking in tongues (Acts 2:1-14). They heard the commotion from the Upper Room and the sight was so incredible that the crowds actually wondered if the disciples were so drunk that they were speaking in foreign languages!
Peter after addressing the certainty that Jesus is the Messiah they were promised, states that what they were seeing and hearing was actually the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy in
Joel 2:28-32. That he had received the promised Holy Spirit and was pouring it out upon his believers. (Acts 2:33)
It is in this context that Peter says: Therefore repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Back to the text, the Promise of the Holy Spirit (2:33, 2:39) is for:
1) Those present that day
2) Their children
3) To all who were far off
4) All who the Lord draws to Himself
Number four there is my point of focus. Have you been called by the Lord for salvation and responded in faith? Then the Promise of the Holy Spirit is for you!
Now two words Peter uses in this passage in reference to the giving of the Holy Spirit that I want break down further, gift & promise.
What is a gift? It is something we receive that another purchases and grants to us. All we must do is receive it.
How do we receive the Holy Spirit? In short because I will cover this later in another blog post, it is the same way we received Jesus... by faith!
Luke 11:13,
Galatians 3:2,14
What is a promise? It is a guarantee based on the word of the one making the Promise. We all know someone who gives us their word but never follows through. To such a person, their promises are worthless and never worth believing. But in this instance, we have the Living God promising his very Spirit to those who believe.
IS THIS NOT WORTH BELIEVING IN???
Jesus taught in
Matthew 13:44-46 about a merchant who finds a pearl of great value. He says the pearl is of such importance that the merchant sold everything he had to buy this pearl. That pearl is the Holy Spirit!
In
John 7:37-39 Jesus says:
“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit,
whom those who believed in him were to receive,
for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
John 7:37-39 ESV
Jesus teaches here in John that those who believe would receive the Holy Spirit.
We know that Jesus is referring to the receiving of the Spirit in the Pentecost sense because the text here says "Jesus was not yet glorified." This did not occur until Jesus ascended into Heaven!
“Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.”
Acts 2:33 ESV
Now in closing Jesus gave the disciples a command shortly before he ascended into Heaven. No, not the command to GO as found in
Matthew 28:19, but rather to WAIT!!!
“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."”
Acts 1:4-5 ESV
Wait for the GIFT that the Father had PROMISED which is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit!
Let all doubt be erased from your mind!
Let all unbelief and manmade doctrine disappear!
It is crystal clear from scripture that the PROMISE of the Holy Spirit is for ALL WHO BELIEVE. It is God's gift to all who believe in His Son, in every age, past, present, and future! And it is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit... which I will cover in my next post!
God bless!
