I have recieved the Holy Spirit years ago and I had no knowledge about it. I ready Joyce Meyers "Filled with the Spirit." But I'm losing trust with Joyce Meyer. She's even not making any sense in her Bibles. I'm thinking of getting out of her fan club.

Does anyone have any knowledge how the "Holy Spirit" works?

First off run as fast and as far as you can from Joyce Meyer or any other charlatan like her. That is the Holy Spirit leading you.

Secondly, it is important to know the Holy Spirit is God. Acts 5:3-4, 2 Corinthians 3:17, 2 Corinthians 13:14 You need a right concept about him if you are to believe.

The following is taken from my own personal CF blog:
Acts 2:39 will be the main text for this teaching on the Promise of the Holy Spirit. I could use many, but this will suffice. It is my hope tonfirst establish the guarantee that the Holy Spirit is for every single person who reads this post. I pray you approach this with an open mind. I will be using the Bible app, English Standard Version, to quote scriptures.

“For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, EVERYONE whom the Lord our God calls to himself."”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:39‬ ‭ESV‬‬ (Emphasis added)

Here Peter is speaking to the crowds at Pentecost that heard him and the 120 speaking in tongues (Acts 2:1-14). They heard the commotion from the Upper Room and the sight was so incredible that the crowds actually wondered if the disciples were so drunk that they were speaking in foreign languages!

Peter after addressing the certainty that Jesus is the Messiah they were promised, states that what they were seeing and hearing was actually the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy in Joel 2:28-32. That he had received the promised Holy Spirit and was pouring it out upon his believers. (Acts 2:33)

It is in this context that Peter says: Therefore repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Back to the text, the Promise of the Holy Spirit (2:33, 2:39) is for:

1) Those present that day
2) Their children
3) To all who were far off
4) All who the Lord draws to Himself

Number four there is my point of focus. Have you been called by the Lord for salvation and responded in faith? Then the Promise of the Holy Spirit is for you!

Now two words Peter uses in this passage in reference to the giving of the Holy Spirit that I want break down further, gift & promise.

What is a gift? It is something we receive that another purchases and grants to us. All we must do is receive it.

How do we receive the Holy Spirit? In short because I will cover this later in another blog post, it is the same way we received Jesus... by faith! Luke 11:13, Galatians 3:2,14

What is a promise? It is a guarantee based on the word of the one making the Promise. We all know someone who gives us their word but never follows through. To such a person, their promises are worthless and never worth believing. But in this instance, we have the Living God promising his very Spirit to those who believe.

IS THIS NOT WORTH BELIEVING IN???

Jesus taught in Matthew 13:44-46 about a merchant who finds a pearl of great value. He says the pearl is of such importance that the merchant sold everything he had to buy this pearl. That pearl is the Holy Spirit!

In John 7:37-39 Jesus says:

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
‭‭John‬ ‭7:37-39‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus teaches here in John that those who believe would receive the Holy Spirit.

We know that Jesus is referring to the receiving of the Spirit in the Pentecost sense because the text here says "Jesus was not yet glorified." This did not occur until Jesus ascended into Heaven!

“Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:33‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Now in closing Jesus gave the disciples a command shortly before he ascended into Heaven. No, not the command to GO as found in Matthew 28:19, but rather to WAIT!!!

“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭1:4-5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Wait for the GIFT that the Father had PROMISED which is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit!

Let all doubt be erased from your mind!

Let all unbelief and manmade doctrine disappear!

It is crystal clear from scripture that the PROMISE of the Holy Spirit is for ALL WHO BELIEVE. It is God's gift to all who believe in His Son, in every age, past, present, and future! And it is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit... which I will cover in my next post!

God bless!

Think of the Holy Spirit as your personal teacher, helper and connection to Christ. John 14:26. He works on helping you learn, teach, remember, lovingly convict you of Sin. John 16:7-15 is informative on the qualities and operation of the Spirit. Praise God for the Bible and the wealth of information God shares with us! I encourage you to stay in the Scriptures. Mediakira, I pray God will help you see and understand His personal workings in your life concerning the workings of the Holy Ghost. God Bless

Does anyone have any knowledge how the "Holy Spirit" works?

The Holy Spirit is God, even as the Father is God and the Son is God. The Holy Spirit, as we confess in the Nicene Creed, "We believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]*, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets."

Since He is God the Holy Spirit is uncreated, eternal, Lord, Almighty, etc. He is true and real God, the one true and living God, with the Father and the Son. In Scripture He is also called the Spirit of God (Genesis 1:2, Romans 8:14, and many, many other places), and also the Spirit of Christ (Galatians 4:6).

It was by the power of the Holy Spirit that Mary, the virgin, conceived and bore her Child, our Lord Jesus, the eternal Son of God made flesh (Luke 1:35). It is the Holy Spirit who is the promise of the Father for the Church (Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4); the promised Comforter (John 14:16), He is called the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). The Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) in fulfillment of the prophecies of the Prophet Joel (Joel 2:28) and John the Baptist (Mark 1:8). We have received the Holy Spirit from God by the promise of God attached to Baptism (Acts 2:38) and the hearing of the word (Galatians 3:5); who is God's promise that we are Christ's and that even as God raised up Jesus from the dead He shall also raise us up from the dead on the Last Day (Romans 8:11), and by Him we can know that we are children and heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17) and by Him can call out to God, "Abba, Father" (Galatians 4:6).

*The reason for putting "and the Son" in square brackets here has to do with a fairly complex, historical matter that is probably outside the scope of conversation.

About how the Holy Spirit works, the verses quoted to you by Turtlefish would be the ones that come most immediately to mind for me.

First of all He works as your Teacher.
"But the Comforter, [even] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you." (John 14:26)

This means if you pray to Him to become your Teacher, He will start to reveal the word to you. He will also start leading and guiding you to those who can minister to you where you are. He will open your mind to great truths and great mysteries. But for Him to so do, you must pray to God in Jesus' Name for Him to. He will not simply become your Teacher without you willfully asking and praying for it.

"Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He shall guide you into all the truth: for He shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever things He shall hear, [these] shall He speak: and He shall declare unto you the things that are to come. He shall glorify me, for He shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you. All things whatsoever the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you." (John 16:13-15)

This is more detail on the same principle. The way He teaches is to take the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and reveal them to you (and to others). This would include anything written in the scriptures, since He was the Word made flesh.

Now the Holy Spirit is also our Teacher in other ways as well, such as through the spiritual gifts. This is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:26-31. You may not be in the right spiritual surroundings yet where He can work in this manner for you, but this is another great goal our God has for every believer where the work of the Holy Spirit is concerned. So begin praying for spiritual gifts as well. They are something the Holy Spirit can use to minister through you unto others.

Teaching the truth all to often does not make one popular...Joyce Myer is very popular.

The Holy Spirit?

TurtleFish explained it well. It's God putting his spirit in you, where the spirit of Satan may have ruled before. I like to think of it, at least in part as getting our conscience back and then some. It forces nothing, but shows us the right choices so we can decide. It helps us with the way we chose to be. I see it a lot like the spirit of say, a doctor, musician, whatever, that take years of being that to get that spirit or that "way of thinking", but given all at once.

Some expect a great feeling to come over them when they get it, and I think that mostly comes from people who seem to need the drama as proof, and have imagined that and testified to it so that's what others expect or imagine too, then that concept snowballs.

Some try to make more of it than it is, but it's enough on it's on. It's the spirit of God, his ways, hence, it's generally quiet, peaceful, it needs no glitter, no drama...it's pure truth, and that needs no help at all..

It is so simple ans straightforward.
Read Acts and follow the instructions.
It all starts here the first Christian Church filled with the Holy Spirit

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:38

Having the indwelling Holy Spirit means that you can pray in tongues as Jesus said you would -
and being able to pray in the Holy Spirit is the most powerful means of upholding your
relationship with the Father through Jesus our Lord.

But you cannot be a church of one, you need brothers and sisters, you need fellowship to
guide and strengthen your walk.
You need to be with fellow Pentecostal saints (sanctified by the Holy Spirit) where you can grow
in understanding and be lead by the Spirit.
You need to be in a Pentecostal Church where all do know how the Holy Spirit works and in which
the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit are present and operate.

Here's a few more:
The Holy Spirit:
perfect agreement with the Father and Christ Jesus (1 John 5:7)

We need/want to avoid:
-"... do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God..."(Eph 4:30)
-"... filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit ..." (Acts 5:3)
-"...actively resisting the Holy Spirit." (Acts 7:51)
-"...put the Spirit of the Lord to the test?" (Acts 5:9)

-He spoke (such as 2 Peter 1:21) and speaks "...the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice..." (such as Heb 3:7).
-"...He will shew you things to come." John 16:13

-"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit..." (Gal. 5:25)
-"...receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me..." (Acts 1:8)
-"...be filled with the Spirit;..." (Ephesians 5:18)
-"The Spirit himself bears witness with our own spirits that we are children of God." Rom 8:16 +++

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one." I John 5:7-8

The HS is given to all believers upon belief unto salvation.

There are many jobs of the HS witness in our lives but one such job is to comfort and reassure us of our salvation through the fruit of the Spirit that it produces in our lives. That fruit is righteousness (short answer) and Gal. 5 the fruit of the Spirit.

The HS also teaches us, keeps us from sinning, bearing fruit in our lives consistent with righteousness, and prevents us from being led astray among other things.

Hi,
You cannot be a believer and follower of Christ unless you have the Holy Spirit in you. Just trust and listen to Him, and all else.
I add my Amen.
  • Roman 8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
So I totally agree, it is by the Holy Spirit that we have been given our rebirth in Christ and by the means of the Divine Spirit we have become children of God, by which we pursue Christ and reflect His heart to the world. Personally I like to think of the Spirit's work in us as analogous to the fashioning of an human embryo in the womb. By the Spirit's work we are in the process of becoming. We have not yet fully become that which eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered the heart of man to know what God has prepared for us who love Him. But O' our desire and the fire in our souls is to know Him and be fully known in Christ. The church is His body and we are enlisted members to do His Will, which is also the Will of the Father.

As the apostle states we are called according to God's purpose; we have a new agenda in life. God has saved us and called us according to His holy calling to His higher and loving purpose. He has provided us with grace that is revealed in Christ's saving ministry. We know God's promises can be relied upon and that Jesus will faithfully be with us even to the very end no matter what the devil throws at us; for He has overcome all evil and He is able to achieve in us what God has wrought. He does so by the power of His Holy Spirit in us which makes us His kids. He has committed His Spirit to us and He dwells in us transforming us and enabling us co-minister with Christ in our generation as we reach out to our dying world with Jesus' message of life until His Gospel goes to the very ends of this earth.

  • 1 Corinthians 2:9
  • Romans 8:28
  • Ephesians 1:11
May God bless

Firstly the Holy Spirit is no some kind of spiritual water or electric force.. The Holy Spirit is Gods Spirit The Holy Spirit is God .. Jesus said He would send a helper to the apostles after Jesus ascended into heaven.. Jesus also said that He would be with the apostles always and He does that through the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit.. We receive the Holy Spirit when we believe in our hearts Jesus and His Atonement.. The Father Jesus and the Holy Spirit are One ...

The Holy Spirit for most acts like a super conscience moving people to say things and convicting them when they are doing the wrong thing.. The Holy Spirit guards us from demonic attack and gives us wisdom to understand scriptures.. He gives us dreams and for some visions.. The Holy Spirit is with true Christians always.. causing us to know the things we need to know..

I gave up on Meyers too.

Well, now, to begin with the Holy Spirit is not an "it" but a "He." I would suggest praying before reading and studying Scriptures about Him. Also, you might want to research Kathryn Kuhlman, now deceased. She is known for well documented, amazing, medical miracles. She was very close to the Holy Spirit.

Some doctors came to debunk her but turned into fans and you can see some of them sitting in some of her healing services. Here are some vids on her. The 2nd vid is very long, but you only need to listen to about a half hour of it to hear about Kuhlman. It is a funny vid, too, as she is being seen through the eyes of a teen ager who never could have imagined anything like what happened in her service.

We all have problems with the concept of 3 in 1. My best analogy is from the sun. The sun is like the Father. The warm and light that come from Him are like the Son. We are told in the Bible that our Savior is "the radiancce of YHWH" aka God. The energy - which raised Him from the dead - is the Holy Spirit.

Yes, the indwelling Spirit, by Whom we cry Abba Father, is a gracious presence in all who believe in the Lord Jesus, all who are truly born again (Romans 8: 'If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his').

Totally agree with everyone who encouraged you to run from Joyce Meyers - she is simply a peddler of the Word of God - for $$$$.

As to the Spirit of God. Here are two key issues -

1. 1Cor2:10 - 13 - In this text you are provided a working definition of the Holy Spirit. Now - ask yourself - is my human spirit a separate person from myself.

2. Then ask yourself - do you ever one time from Genesis to Revelation see the Holy Spirit in heaven?? You see Jesus in heaven - at the right hand of God - a mulititude of times. Naturally you see God in heaven innumerable times. However, do you ever see the Spirit of God in heaven...

3. 1Cor8:6 Oh - and just for fun - consider the ONLY legitimate creed for the followers of Jesus Christ - and ask yourself...hmmmm...who is missing....hmmmm.....
