Man, there's a lot more, if I'm getting you right when you say prayer and bible reading. It's a shame no one told you - I think this is a weakness in this day and age in our faith, do excuse it.
For instance prayer - what kind? Making requests alone, or communing with God?
Bible reading - what kind? There's study, and there's more meditative kind of heart-reading, and so on.
Depending on what you do, your mileage with Christianity in the midst of such suffering will vary. I'll pray for you (though I understand it may not mean much) I know a little of what this whole mental illness affair is like.

It is an attempt to stimulate thought so that a fuller message is conveyed. Scriptures are used because they convey potent comprehensions (the ones who wrote them had grown well advanced in their knowledge of the pursuit).
We really don't know this though, we only know a handful of words that He is recorded as having said.
.. and new wisdom too! (eg John 3:10, Matthew 22:33, John 6:51-52).
The knowledge does not belong to us and we are charged by Him to handle it responsibly (Matthew 11:25-26), though we are willing to direct you to Him whom it belongs (John 4:14, John 5:39-40) if you will follow (John 3:19-21).

I meant to ask you, how did your illness begin, and progress until it reached the stage where it is now? You are right though; do tell me how you deal with it

Be wary of drugs, some have the effects of slowing down the racing thoughts. This is why many, many schizophrenics drink and smoke.
But it's only a quick fix, I've had to eliminate frequent drug use. But I still need to deal with those racing thoughts. I find music helps, also exercise, work and socializing.

Have you ever tried Nootropics?
You do drugs; why not try simple herbs? I'd suggest looking into Ashwagandha, which is a sedative and an anti-convulsant. I believe it should help to slow down your thoughts, too.
There are many others; look it up. Jus avoid the chems! I hope my suggestion helps some.

Chamomile! I have it sitting around myself. It's very good, it's a decent thing for calming you down.
If chamomile helps, then Ashwagandha will help for sure - they both work on your body in the same way, using the same mechanism. They're both GABA-Agonists - Ash is more potent, however. Look into it, man. There's many others too.
