Although I am now a proud and firm believer in the continuation of the Holy Spirit's charismatic gifts operating in the modern Church, I wasn't raised that way.

I was brought up in Baptist and Nazarene churches. The Southern Baptists I attended as a child I'm sure were more or less fully cessationist in their views on the spiritual gifts. The Nazarene church we were a part of were "hesitant" to the gifts; I recall the pastor there being on the fence about the modern-day tongues, and he felt there must always be an interpreter for any glossolalic outburst, whether in individual prayer or not. We drifted into a Full Gospel Baptist (or Bapticostal) fellowship for a few years, and they fully embraced the gifts.

I've been Pentecostal for the past two years.

However, I must say continuationists aren't found in just Pentecostal/Charismatic movements, but in other mainline denominations, too.

I have two questions for you:

(1) How do you harmonize this passage?

Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book,
If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written
in this book:

I assume that God speaking today would be "ADDING" to His Word...
unless God only quoted Scripture.

(2) If God speaks to people today, does that Word have the same Authority
as Scripture? If not, why not?
