In my last thread, because of comments by some others, I was accused of believing in Universal Salvation. As I understand the term, I categorically do not believe that everyone will be saved regardless of their response to Christ. I believe that Christ died for all mankind, taking the sins of all the world upon himself, but we still have to accept or reject that gift by believing the Gospel.

However, to be honest, I have never really researched what people believe who declare Universal Salvation. So I am inviting all those who believe it to show me why you believe it.

I am not setting this up as a bait to convince you otherwise. But I will honestly disagree or agree depending on what is said. Please let me know why you believe in Universal Salvation. Thank you.

Honestly, you're already on the correct course of salvation, so why would you even entertain the idea of discussing a false narrative (universalism) within the ranks of Christianity? I wouldn't waste my time, because universalism is a false doctrine that does NOT lead to salvation. Case closed, no????

No the case isn't closed. If you don't want to participate then don't. There isn't now and never has been a valid reason not to discuss any and all matters relating to Christianity.

Seeing as that you already understand the meaning, maybe you should retitle your Thread post.

I think that what you are espousing is "universal atonement" rather than "universal salvation". These two concepts are not the same. They get confused for good reason because the idea of universal atonement logically leads to the idea of universal salvation. In my opinion, both of these views are heretical, but it is important to be able to distinguish between them.

Universal salvation by the most common definition is that Jesus died for all and therefore all will ultimately be reconciled and saved. Therefore if hell even exists, it will be a temporary place something akin to purgatory until reconcilation can take place.

But that doctrine is contrary to most teachings in the Bible and suggests that it doesn't matter what you believe or what you do, you will enjoy the riches of heaven along with everybody else.

Personally I leave those matters to God. But I know with all my heart that as miserably as I sometimes fall short in my assignments, as a Christian, I am to share God's love and be wise and vigilant and ready when opportunity presents itself to introduce the Lord to those who need him. And I do believe some are called to be preachers and teachers and missionaries and evangelists to reach others who otherwise would not know the Lord and to help the new believer to grow in faith.

I believe the Lord does not want any to be left behind and his Church is charged with the duty to reach all.

But I believe we do that best as a light to the world instead of a club that tries to threaten or bully people into the faith.

If by that, you mean OSAS or just have faith, or say we have faith/believe but no action/works are required, then I'd say that too is false, and case closed on both that and Universalism.

If you don't mean that, then good. :)

Please let me know why you believe in Universal Salvation. Thank you.

There's already an ongoing discussion on this very topic, so to save reiterating all the reasons a number of us have given before (and repeatedly)... Universalism...why not? :)

Because many more born again believers embrace this and I want to understand why.

So do you believe in universal salvation? Again, from what little I understand, if all will be saved in the end, why should you preach the Gospel?

What do you mean by OSAS? As far as works goes, I do not believe we are saved by our works but by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. However, I interpret James to mean if you believe then you will have fruit of works. Anyone who knows the Truth makes the effort to share that Truth with others and presses into discipleship by the renewing of their mind, purifying their lives and making themselves vessels worthy of the Master's use. But that behavior does not save me, it is only evidence of my salvation.

OSAS=Once saved, always saved, nothing we can do or not do, can take our salvation form us.

I believe we are saved by both works and faith. There is no way we can get to heaven on just works. So if we do the works that manifest because we are saved, fine. If we say we are saved, and do no works as in helping the poor and such, or even sin as a lifestyle, we are not.

I believe in it. It's worthwhile to preach the gospel as such, because it's good news to know that all will be saved in the end, and such good news is worth preaching. It's akin to knowing someone who doesn't realize they have millions in their bank account. There's a world of difference between being a millionaire and not knowing it, and being a millionaire and knowing it, so telling them the good news regarding their wealth is worthwhile.

I honestly don't concern myself with thorny doctrinal issues such as universal salvation. As I posted, I leave that up to God and I try to follow the nudgings of the Spirit in how best to live my life as the Lord wants me to live it. I think if we do that, we're going to be okay.

I really think God isn't nearly as concerned about our theology as he is our relationship with him. And I think when we meet him face to face we're all going to chuckle at how wrong we got a whole lot of the theology that is preached and taught.

The whole history of JudeoChristian thought is fascinating to me and I continue to be an eager student after decades of study. But I try not to get bogged down in concepts such as if a Christian believes that or doesn't believe this he/she can't be a Christian and/or isn't saved and stuff like that.

I think that is wise as far as those of us who have the new birth.

I agree. But God does care about how we view His character. Not that it impacts Him, but it impacts us in how we see Him.

Yes, years ago the Fundamentalists began with just the basics of God becoming the man Jesus to live the life we could not live and to die for our sins. And that we must accept that salvation while recognizing that we are sinners in need of a Savior. But even Fundamentalism has incrementally grown in what they consider the basics.
