This is kinda important, especially for new converts. This video lays out what salvation is and isn't thoroughly that it is not by our works but by faith in the blood atonement of Christ alone. The gift freely given. It is not by anything we do, other than believing by faith in the grace of the Lord.
I watched about 59 minutes of this and then I was totally convinced that this guy on the video is preaching a different gospel Galatians 1:6-12. Really I got the hint around 11-12 minutes but I continued watching to see what more he would say that was incorrect. They guy totally skipped important verses that would falter his false doctrine.
There was lots of incorrect things he went on about, but to spare anyone for TOO long of a post, I will focus strictly to salvation.
Belief is Faith; Faith is Belief.
Belief/Faith is a verb, an action word. It is a continuous thing. Doesn't happen just once and your good, but its continuous.
Let me start with a tiny little scenario. While you read the scenario, focus your thoughts on John 3:16 and Ephesians 2:8-9.
{Your friend calls you and says "I have a free gift for you and all you have to do is drive over and pick it up".
Did you earn that gift? --No
Is the gift just going to spontaneously show up on you lap if you ask your friend to do so? -- No, your friend wish you pick it up at his house.
Do you have to get up and drive over and pick it up? --Yes, you are asked to drive over and pick it up.}
That unmerited grace IS a free gift, I don't argue that as I see it in scripture. However, it is conditional in the fact that you have to "go over and pick it up". John 3:16 tells us a condition:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth (continuous/ trust and obey) in him
should not perish,
but have everlasting life."
Another scenario:
{Think of your job: Does believing you need to drive to work get you to work?
You have to "drive" (action) to get there. Belief is an action. You obey with your belief, the gospel. The gospel tells us things we need to do for salvation. Its all action words. Believing itself, we are told, is a work John 6:29.
One verse people ALWAYS seem to over look in Ephesians 2 is verse 10.
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works,
which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
It is in perfect harmony with James 2:14-26. Faith alone is dead. You must trust and obey, which requires the conditional I was talking about earlier.
In the entire book of Acts, people are not saved until they are baptized. Acts is called the book of conversions. In ALL cases, they are baptized. How people get around this just perplexes me.
I like how the guy in the video just totally dodged the fact the Ethiopian was baptized and saved then. He just totally skipped it. Why? He doesn't believe in it. Which means he doesn't believe in scripture. Only what he desires to believe Galatians 1:6-12.
The guy on the video doesn't wish to see verses like this:
Acts 2:38 = Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Just look at that verse! "be baptized". In what? "the name of Jesus Christ". Why?! "for the remission of sins". What do you get for doing that? "the gift of the Holy Spirit".
Mark 16:16 = He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
If you are a believer, action of faith dictates you be baptized AND you will be saved.
If your not a believer, obviously there is no need to mention the baptism part in the last part of the sentence.
Lets go to Acts 8. Lets look at the part this guy skipped what seemed like intentionally, along with what he did mention.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
36
And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said,
See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
{pause} = Philip must have taught baptism otherwise the Ethiopian would not have asked about it....
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still:
and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch;
and he baptized him.
39
And when they were come up out of the water,
the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more:
and he went on his way rejoicing.
Philip completed the task he was sent to do by God by baptizing the Ethiopian. See how the Lord "caught" Philip up after the eunuch was baptized?
Pretty damaging material to this guy on the video. Thats why he didn't want to bring you to those verses.
He said Paul didn't baptize and totally twisted the meaning of 1 Corinthians 1:17.
(1 Corinthians 1:17). Some teach (like this guy on the video) from this verse that Paul was not sent to baptize. That is obviously correct, for that is what the verse says. However, they imply it in a manner that attempts to prove baptism false.
Paul was sent to preach the gospel. From this many will continue by suggesting that baptism is not, therefore, a part of the gospel, and since it is not a part of the gospel, it is not essential to salvation (Romans 1:16). Whatever Paul meant by these words, he could not contradict other passages in the Bible. If he does, his claims of being inspired by God are false. But why did Paul say this?
If Paul was not sent to baptize, did he sin in baptizing Crispus, Gaius and the household of Stephanas (1 Corinthians 1:14, 16)? If Paul had been sent to baptize, would this mean baptism is essential to salvation? John the Baptist was sent to baptize (John 1:33). Was his baptism necessary for salvation? Those under the "Great Commission" were sent to baptize (Matthew 28:18-20). Is the baptism of the "Great Commission" essential to salvation? Did Paul labor under this "Great Commission"?
It does not say that baptism is not part of the gospel. Wherever Paul went, he taught people to be baptized (Acts 16:13-15, 31-34, 18:8, 19:1-6). In telling them to be baptized, was he preaching the gospel of Christ or another gospel? Of course Paul was teaching the gospel when he taught people to be baptized (Galatians 1:6-9).
Jesus said that as a result of the gospel being preached men would know to believe and be baptized (Mark 16:15-16). This shows that baptism is part of the gospel.
It does not say that Paul was thankful there were only a few baptized in Corinth. If he was thankful that only a few were baptized, would he not have been more grateful had none been baptized? If that was the case, then why teach people to be baptized if he was thankful when they weren't? Believers in Corinth had been baptized, and though Paul had only a minor role in the actual baptism, he had taught them to be baptized (1 Corinthians 1:14, Acts 18:8).
What Paul actually said was that he was glad he had baptized only a few personally and gives the reason before verse 17. See 1 Corinthians 1:12-16 then you can understand verse 17.
The guy on the video totally skipped Romans 6. Totally didn't see or "understand" as he likes to put it, Acts 22:16. Must not have seen Acts 2:38,41,47. Skipped Acts 8:38. Ignored Acts 16:33-34. Was blind to see Acts 10. I could go on and on.
This man CLEARLY "misunderstands" salvation. In fact, he tries to lead people away with false teaching.
He even tries to take away confession later in his video after bashing baptism, Romans 10:9.
Look, John 14:15; John 15:14, if you are going to obey the gospel this is what needs to be done. Here is the plan of salvation. This is what the bible teaches we must do for salvation.
Tons of verses in the gospel but these will get the point across:
Hear the Gospel. (Romans 10:17, John 8:32)
Believe the Gospel (Hebrews 11:6, John 20:31)
Repent of past sins (Luke 13:3, Acts 17:30)
Confess faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:10, Matthew 10:32)
Be Baptized (Galatians 3:27, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38)
Be faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10)
Its in the bible, this is what it talks about, why is it so rejected?
