• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I can feel the fear, if that makes sense, I feel it in me. I'm so scared and we have people over for Mother's Day but I'm scared and I want to go hide I feel like I'm about to completely break down I'm scared. I have blasphemous thoughts and don't think I have saving faith. I described it a little in the blog losing it, and the blog suffering. I have failed. I doubt my salvation and my faith.

So I know that it is difficult to keep your head from spinning out of control when you think things that are stressful to you. I have also had to deal with high levels of anxiety. Don't worry too much and I'm going to help you through this. I will tell you right now; just wanting to be saved right now, tells me you can and will be saved. But, in order for me to help you better, tell me what you know about the holy spirit, repentance, Jesus, and being saved. Then we can go from there. I promise we will do this right and I will do my best to erase all doubts you might have.

The HS is one of the holy trinity the Spirit of God and He guides and lives in saved believers. Repentance involved changing your mind about sin (recognising it as it is) and acting to turn from sin. Jesus is the Son of God but also God not just a prophet or a demigod or something. Jesus lived sinlessly on earth as God and man, died on the cross for sin and rose after 3 days. He appeared to certain people afterwards and then ascended into heaven, not dying again just gone up. Being saved I don't know. I just don't know anymore.

I’ve gone over this lesson several times recently in the forums. Each time I like to add a little bit more to it. When I add more to what I am saying, don’t worry too much. I try to keep everything in harmony. So if you would like to know more about this, please check out my other forums concerning this topic.

So being saved is a process. Satan wants you to think this is a one time thing where all you have to do is say I repent and everything goes away. Being saved is actually a lifetime decision. But let’s get more into that after we discuss what it means to be saved.

When you are ready you will start by recognizing that you are a sinner. In Romans 3:23 it says For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. In doing this you can humble yourself. You must recognize that “we” are all sinners. “I” am not the only sinner, “you” are not the only sinner. We are all sinners. So we are saved by grace, and grace alone.

Now that you have admitted that you are a sinner you can move forward. You must now confess your sins. But in order to confess your sins you must know what they are. I have a couple of different pieces of scripture that I’d like to share with you, that are for the most part the “catch all” categories for sin. The first one is the Ten Commandments, and the second one is the 17 sins of the flesh. Let’s take a look at them both down below.

Exodus 20:1-17

The ten Commandments

1. I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

4 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

5 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

6 Thou shalt not kill.

7 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8 Thou shalt not steal.

9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

10 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

17 sins of the flesh

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Now this list can be a bit difficult to understand, so let me turn you to a modern day translation. A man by the name of Wade M. Hughes wrote up an article on Sermon Central. In this article; not only does he translate the 17 sins of the flesh, but he also shows you where the sins show up in your modern daily life.

Know The 17 Works Of The Flesh?

Know The 17 Works Of The Flesh?

Once you have accepted that these are sins, now you can move on to repentance. Go through the lists one by one and confess all of your sins. God reads everything on your mind and Jesus reads everything on your heart, so you can’t hide any sins from either one of them. This should be a huge help to you if you are able to do all of this.

Now that you have repented, you need to hide from your sins. Don’t do any of the same behaviors that you were doing before that lead you to sin. This is a very conscious effort on your part. Think of the Ten Commandments as God’s law, and the sins of the flesh as misdemeanors (but take them very seriously), that are loosely related to God’s law.

Now let’s take a quick look at a scenario involving crime in the world today. If a man commit’s a crime he goes to jail. Now if he commit’s the same crime 5 different times and get’s caught 5 different times, how many times does he go to jail for the crime. Well he will go to jail 5 times. So even though we are saved by grace, this only saves us for the crimes against God that we have confessed and repented from.

So in saying this, I am telling you that once saved always saved is not a thing at all. It doesn’t exist. Satan just wants you to think it exist because he wants to pull you away from God. You can still backslide, but you will always be forgiven every time you confess.

From here it is a really good idea to get yourself baptized. If it is a possibility at all, you need to do it. If you have already been baptized it will be up to you to decide whether you need to do it again or not. You should know that baptism is a ceremony that shows that you have accepted Jesus as your lord. You get baptized when “you” have made the decision to turn your life from sin, and it is the representation of all of your sins being blotted out from your book of life. They are all forgiven at this point and you will know what you must do.

So if you are struggling with the next part a little, let me tell you a little more about what this life altering decision entails. This is a total submission to Jesus and to God. It’s a process where you are learning how to love God and love Jesus. Sometimes it will be about learning to love your fellow man. It doesn’t happen over night, but if you can’t love your fellow man, Jesus, and God for a lifetime; how are you going to make it through eternity with them. Life is full of trials and tribulations to get yourself ready for the kingdom of God. Besides Jesus plainly says in John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

So read your scriptures, find out what you should and shouldn’t be doing. Don’t model yourself after man in the scriptures but model your life after Jesus and God. Find out what things are good in life through the scriptures and do only those things. Being saved takes a commitment, and God refers to our union with him as us being the bride and him being the bridegroom. This doesn’t mean he wants us all to be girls so please don’t take that out of context. It’s just an analogy that defines how you have to prepare yourself for the kingdom of heaven.

I know this is a lot to ask of anyone, so I always advise people to take steps when they are ready. But you also have to know that you need to be ready before you die. Don’t worry too much, because if you are sincere in your repentance, the holy spirit will take almost your entire burden away from you. Because of this the process will be much easier for you.

Let me know how things went, and if you have more issues pop up, I’ll help you find which direction you need to go by showing you more scriptures related to your problems.

May God bless you and help you find your way to a true salvation. I will be praying for you.

I only counted 15 sins of the flesh.... :/ I'm wondering about the sabbath though, like does that mean it's a sin to be too active on sunday?

Murders and Adultery were added to the list in the link that I provided you. Those two are also considered to be sins of the flesh.

Well, depending on who you ask, yes and no. The sabbath has been changed by man over the years. If you look at Genesis 2:2 it says, [2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Also in Exodus 16:25-26 it says, And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

If you look in any dictionary it will say that the seventh day of the week is Saturday. Man has tried to change the sabbath so that we'd forget what day it is on. But there is no where in the bible that it says that the sabbath has been changed by god.

Now with all that aside, no you should not spend your Saturday exercising or playing sports. A lot of people have a hard time understanding what the sabbath day is for. This is a day to rest and not go out on the market to purchase things for yourself. It is the lords day, so if you go anywhere you should gather to worship him.

Now if you want you can still keep Sunday holy, the only thing is that you don't want to be making any other day of the week holier than Saturday. You can actually ask any Jew if you want to know when they keep the sabbath because they have never changed it. I would also say that this subject would be worth researching for yourself. The international standard or ISO 8601 is why many people have changed their sabbath to Sunday.

My strongest argument I can give you against the changing of the sabbath to Sunday is this. God made everything that exists and he wrote his laws with his own finger in stone. So what authority does man have to change God's law when no change was expressly written.

Many times in the new testament Jesus would condemn the actions of the Pharisees because they would try and put tradition and mans laws above Gods laws. Just to show you more on this we go to Mark 7:1-13

Mark.7
[1] Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
[2] And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
[3] For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
[4] And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
[5] Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
[6] He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
[7] Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctines the commandments of men.
[8] For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
[9] And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
[10] For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
[11] But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
[12] And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
[13] Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Again, I would like you to do your own research on these subjects. Search out the scriptures because they do not lie. Some scriptures get taken out of context because people will only read one verse to you. But you have to read all of the verses below and above it to know what it is saying. You should also cross reference it with other scriptures in the bible. One thing that I like to do is google search "what does the bible say about ____". When you do you can find all of the verses that deal with the subject that you put in the blank spot. Look at all verses in the chapter for each verse given, and you will find your answers.

Again, if you have any more questions, I have plenty of time to try and give you at least one reply in this post daily.

I will have to research, I don't even understand what the pharisee's rule is there. It doesn't make sense to me.

If you are talking about the rule that the pharisees had in Mark 7 1-13, it was basically a rule that you had to have washed hands on the sabbath before you ate your meal. If you didn't, they assumed that all of the food that went into your mouth is unclean.

Jesus had also told them in Matthew 15:11 [11] Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. In other words the pharisees were overly obsessed with a clean and neat appearance on the outside, that they were missing the point that it was their actions and not their appearance that was the problem in this situation.

If you are concerned about what you should and should not eat, there is a list in Leviticus 11.

1 The Lord told Moses and Aaron 2 to say to the community of Israel:

You may eat 3 any animal that has divided hoofs and chews the cud.a]">[a] 4-8 But you must not eat animals such as camels, rock badgers, and rabbits that chew the cud but don’t have divided hoofs. And you must not eat pigs—they have divided hoofs, but don’t chew the cud. All of these animals are unclean,b]">[b] and you are forbidden even to touch their dead bodies.

9-12 You may eat anything that lives in water and has fins and scales. But it would be disgusting for you to eat anything else that lives in water, and you must not even touch their dead bodies.

13-19 Eagles, vultures, buzzards, crows, ostriches, hawks, sea gulls, owls, pelicans, storks, herons, hoopoes,c]">[c] and bats are also disgusting, and you are forbidden to eat any of them.

20-23 The only winged insects you may eat are locusts, grasshoppers, and crickets. All other winged insects that crawl are too disgusting for you to eat.

Many people believe that this list has been done away with. Personally I follow the list, but I don't see extremely strong evidence either way on the subject. I don't eat unclean meat because there is a higher tendency for you to get sick by eating something from this list than eating something not on this list.

Scientists have actually done their own personal study on what foods make you sick more often than others. From what I understand they spent millions of dollars and came up with the exact same list as this one.
