Hello,

I'm currently at a crossroads in my spirituality. Since 2001, and especially since 2008 when I got baptized, I've been a christian and I believe that since 2008, I held the 10 commandments.

But about two years ago I got an interest in other religions to learn a bit. I chose olympianism because it's european and Goethe recommends it and I was a Goethe fan.

So basically, I had a meeting with Zeus. I had been in my room praying when suddenly everything in my room was filled with light. Then this shining face came to me that exuded joy, happiness and kindness. It said, I am Zeus. Zeus wanted me to bring a cup for blessing, which should be my cup of blessedness. We talked a bit. After 10 minutes or so, Zeus left.

I don't quite know what to do with it. Are there other gods? When Paul told us that the law had been abolished, does that mean that now we can also delve into other religions too? I know that must sound very esoteric, but Zeus left a good impression on me.

Later I read the olympian writings and they rather appalled me. So much rape and war and fighting. While the bible has its wars and the Noahs Flood, the greeks had the bloody siege of Troja, Alexander, etc.

I'm not sure what to do now. Please help.

I asked Zeus and he said Jesus is the blessed son of the Lord.

Huh. Zeus converted. Who would have thought?

It seems to me this is the scripture that would be relevant if you are directly encountering something supernatural. It's a pretty specific question to ask - has Jesus Christ come in the flesh? 1 John 4:1-2

Does Zeus want worship for himself? Remember the first commandment, Exodus 20:3. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me". Also, various statements of this in the gospels - Mark 12:29-30.

If Zeus still wants to be a 'god', I don't think you can have traffic with him. If he's a servant of God and Christ now, that might be a bit different. Basically an angel. Angels never accept worship of themselves though...

When Paul told us that the law had been abolished, does that mean that now we can also delve into other religions too?

Your experience is very interesting but I don't think this is the case.

I'm not sure what you are talking to. I do think there could be other 'gods', but anything claiming to be a 'god' would basically boil down to a deceiving (or deceived) spirit, I think. Tread careful, it sounds like you knocked and the door opened. But you were knocking on a door you weren't supposed to.

Its a dark spirit wrapped in light.
a spirit of divination can even say JESUS is the only way.
but remember well, what paul said.........
do not let any man beguile you into a voluntary worshipping of angels etc.
Flee it and return to biblical sound doctrine. Repent of this, and return to Christ
and be made wise unto salvation by the Holy scrips through faith in Christ .
Even satan can appear as an angel of Light.
the goal of this spirit is to get you to follow other gods and yet feel okay doing it.
Even demons know CHRIST is the savoir, as many said it when he rebuked them out .
We know who ye are, the HOLY one of GOD. and this is how they deceive
they can say JESUS is the only way , or whatever. But its a tool of darkness to deceive.
Flee it , repent and follow ONLY Christ .

The other scripture that comes to mind here is the final temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4:8-11, take a look at Christ's words, and follow His example. Also, you might want to get rid of that cup you mentioned in the original post, if it was a literal cup that you still have.

Well maybe it was a dark spirit. I don't have the gift of discernment here.

Zeus doesn't exist, so there's really only two options:

1) It's all in your imagination or
2) A demonic spirit

I don't usually assume demonic activity when human imagination is the more likely explanation, though I don't count it out either.

In either case, however, it's not a god, and it's not from God.

OP, you have admitted to being schizophrenic in the past here at CF. I highly encourage you to go back to see your health care provider. What you're talking about here can very easily be part of your illness. This is either your illness at play or this is demonic. Neither is good.

In the spirit of being sincere and plain, and really out of concern and love, I have to say I have trouble believing this story. However, if this really did take place as you describe it, I would have to concur with what's already been said: There is no other god apart from our God, and what you saw was ungodly.

Beyond this, I would go on to suggest that when people claim supernatural encounters or demonic possession, it could be many things -- an over active imagination, an elaborate prank by someone else, a strong fever, a drug induced hallucination, or, it may be a real spiritual encounter. However, I think the most common reason comes from a strong desire for the supernatural to be real; which is equally dangerous as an actual possession or encounter, for through a desire to seek ungodly spirits, one is already fallen to them by seeking evil in the first place. Any obsession with other religions, myths or the occult is entirely out of tune with the Holy Spirit. If we add to this deception and fabrication of events, it's adding ungodliness upon ungodliness. From all of this I would urge all to repent; for there is only one way, one truth, one life, one God, one Lord and one Word.

I'd love to hear from you again, and regardless of the reason I would advice you to see a priest. God bless.

Okay, this is how the story continued:

I went to a divine service, a catholic one (I am baptized into a lutheran church but have a strong desire to become catholic). In the service, I asked God to reveal to me what is true about this encounter with Zeus. Then I saw a small naked demon man with crooked legs who held up an angry image of an angry Zeus. Now I am thinking this demon man also made up the encounter with Zeus. It's like God moved a curtain away. I am soon going to the priest for confession (he isn't often here), and we will speak about it. I'm not into the occult and never do magic. I haven't fabricated this story, I promise it. I was just seeking more variety in spirit. And I still think that in the ancient times God sometimes helped people of other religions too to be loving to each other. He is not a God of wrath and anger but instead a God of peace and love. I also found that I cannot worship both God and Zeus, it's not fitting into the head and heart and one has to go. But I have difficulty with the words of the bible where it is such an angry text. My father died as an atheist some years ago and some said he would be in hell now, which is totally unacceptable for me. I am a german, I know about the Holocaust and I cannot trust a God who would throw people into an eternal holocaust. I dreamt of my dad in Heaven once. I know Jesus loves all people.

Thanks for reading my story and God bless you!

Frankly I don't want to believe that people go to Hell either.

And in the bible, at times He did release his wraith upon sinners. But if someone was truly repentant, He was quick to show forgiveness and mercy.

Thank you for the update! Confession is very good. Seek God in all things. How are you doing now?

Just out of curiosity - what is it that draws you from Lutheran teachings to Roman teachings? I couldn't help but notice you asked for advice on which saint it was good to call upon when suffering demonic encounters. I hope it's not too out of line, but I would simply encourage you in that our Lord Jesus Christ most certainly hears our prayers and intercedes for us. There is power to overcome all evil by God's grace, by His sanctifying Holy Spirit, through prayer, God's Word and the Holy Sacraments; Christ Jesus is more than enough, for he has overcome the world!

God bless.

I'm doing okay now. I am drawn to the roman-catholic church because it is such a big church and because the current pope does such a good job. They organize prayer meetings with other religions and do much for world peace. I pray to saints and angels because it is their job to help us and Heaven is organized that way, I think. There are billions of angels on Earth and I've been visited by them a few times. God is the center and object of worship (the Trinity) but especially the arch angels and the big saints also have power. Also, the roman-catholic church teaches that there is also salvation outside of the church for those who are good people at least, and that there's even hope for murderers and other kinds of lawbreakers. I love that too because forgiveness must not be downplayed any longer in the church lest we loose our own sense of forgiveness as well according to the bible. The lutheran church sometimes feels like a battleship always out to fight and struggle with other people and I'm not into that anymore. What I still like is the music, ie Bach and Pachelbel and the others.

Just to clarify the Catholic position on salvation outside the church:
"while it is normatively necessary to be a Catholic to be saved (see CCC 846; Vatican II, Lumen Gentium 14), there are exceptions, and it is possible in some circumstances for people to be saved who have not been fully initiated into the Catholic Church (CCC 847). However, for those who knowingly and deliberately (that is, not out of innocent ignorance) commit the sins of heresy (rejecting divinely revealed doctrine) or schism (separating from the Catholic Church and/or joining a schismatic church), no salvation would be possible until they repented and returned to live in Catholic unity. "

There are certainly differing points of view from other theologians, but this is the official teaching. I have also heard it stated "we do not know if God saves those outside the Church, but we do know He is infinitely forgiving, so there is hope for those outside the Church."

All that said, have you read much from the Book of Condord recently? It might be good to review it. I was Catholic for around 10 years, but I have lapsed for a number of reasons. The Lutheran Church is wonderful, and is worth another review. Ecumenism is not just the purvey of the RC's, there is actually quite a bit in the Lutheran church, at least in some Lutheran churches.
