Anyone here anti-caffeine? I wasn't much of a caffeine user when I was in college, but now I work a desk job and I feel like it is essential.

I see caffeine as an enhancer to my experience as a human. Being less tired and more alert to work and do things seem like a really good positive to consuming caffeine.

I am more interested in those that view caffeine as a drug like marijuana or something and should be avoided. What are the arguments against the ethical use of caffeine as a Christian?

I'm anti-caffeine on the basis my body doesn't handle it. Have no opinion on it for others. Unless they are fatigued... it causes fatigue. Irritable... it causes that. Plain addicted and need like 11 cups a day... bad for you.

Oh and the headaches when someone has bought me a jar of coffee and it runs out... I found lately that decaff was enough to cause my sore bones in my wrist to come back. Now I just drink decaff tea. But feel better when I'm drinking more water.

Your talking to someone who gets sleepy with piriton and dopey with co-codamol.

Other than that, enjoy :)

I drank coffee for years, all day. Not just coffee, but Cuban espresso

I quit coffee when I quit smoking ( After cancer )

Took me a little while to wean off of it, because I had that morning ritual of coffee and smokes, so I went to tea, then to lemon water, then to water, then to nothing

Now my mornings are free :)

I have one soda and then I will take 100mg 2x per day in pill form (a lot cheaper than caffeinated beverages), so about 250mg total/day. Sometimes on the weekend I will consume Rockstar's, but I noticed I will exceed my usual 250mg/day it kind of has the opposite effect on me - like I will get tired.

I just started this thread, because I know some people view it as a drug like marijuana or cocaine or something because it alters our brain. I mostly wanted to discuss that, because following that logic you would not eat food or ingest pretty much anything as everything you consume has some type of effect on our physiology.

I would love to try and play devil's advocate. But I cannot come up with any reason that caffeine could be detrimental in any spiritual way.
I mean maybe if you are a fiend and drink it all day and think about it all day. Maybe.
I would say that any substance that improves you and leads to joy and goodness is blessed by God.

Me, I love coffee. But it makes me all scatter-brained and gives me that heartbeat-skipping stuff, so I generally avoid it. But that's me.

Paul the apostle to the Gentiles said that we should not concern ourselves with either touching or not touching things that are consumed that are gone once used.
He was saying the same message Yeshua was....that the whole issue is our hearts....our intentions and motives towards others that matters. Nothing else amounts to a hill of beans.

Hi,
I gave up caffeine five years ago and found huge improvement in health. The severe migraines I used to suffer disappeared never to return. My alertness and zest and quality of sleep are excellent.

Caffeine affects the nervous system a great deal. So recommend giving up slowly. It is a drug, you do get withdrawal symptoms

As far as Christianity is concerned, best not to rely on any substance or thing or person. Take it to prayer and you will get strength and guidance to become free.
