I don't eat any fish not cooked well done.

Beware your next Seattle roll; doctors say it could contain something that should never be found in sushi (besides cream cheese): a "worm-like" parasite. A paper published Thursday in BMJ Case Reports says cases of anisakiasis are on the rise in the West due to the increasing popularity of sushi and other dishes involving raw or under-cooked fish.

Creepy.. I just had some sushi a few days ago.

But yeah, it probably won't stop me in the future either.. lol.
This woman ate something in this restaurant and caught a parasitic worms which migrated to her brain. They were able to remove most via medication but one did not respond to treatment and surgical removal was too dangerous. So se had to live with it. That was shown on the TV show Monsters Inside Me.

Medication is a nice word for what they give you to kill these kinds of parasites...if I remember correctly.

They'll basically give you low doses of pesticides...which are strong enough to kill the parasites, but hopefully not strong enough to do any sort of long-lasting damage to you....hopefully.

Yes, in unfortunately sometimes the side effects can be as annoying or as deadly as the disease. Notice how some medicines are happily advertised with a female cheerful voice and then the possible side effects such as strokes, heart attacks, severe disorientation, etcetera, are rapidly and dutifully enunciated and we are expected not to give it too much importance?

Something similar to offering to drop a nuclear bomb on the Everglades in order to eradicate the Boa Constrictor problem which is causing local residents trouble..

BTW
That is why there is always a danger involved in eating in restaurants where workers might or might not choose to wash their hands after going to the bathroom or might just carelessly or accidentally on purpose choose to undercook meat.

Also travelling to countries where such parasites are common increases the risk.

One fellow allowed himself to be stung by Bot Flies during such a trip-came back home to the USA with a host of their maggots or larva embedded in the back of his scalp. He could hear them happily munching and making scraping sounds in the back of his head when he went to bed at night.

I know of several restaurants that offer sushi, and more than a few that specialize in sushi where I live.
I know of no one who has died from sushi.
Also, I feel more connected to my culture when eating sushi.
Never ate it but sounds delicious!

An article I read said freezing fish for several days completely eliminates the risk. It's also found in other countries, such as Peru or in cod livers in Scandinavia.
