Poked around this forum, found a few interesting threads, but couldn't respond because I was informed that I have "insufficient privileges." What the heck does that mean? It sounds like the complaint I made to my parents in my childhood. I'm guessing that it's because I didn't pay to join, but it might be because I am new and I have to prove on the "allowable" threads that I am not an unpleasant idiot. (I may be an idiot, at times, but I am seldom unpleasant) I thought it was odd if the reason I couldn't comment was because of $$$ because I was on the Sam Harris (If you haven't heard of him, he is a sorta well-known Buddhisty atheist) for about 5 years and it was free. I was very fortunate because quarreling (with gritted teeth, but great civility) with atheists eventually led me to become a theist. Anyway, I never heard of a forum that charges a fee, so maybe it's something else. Maybe it's because I have to earn the privileges by racking up a certain number of posts? If it IS about the money, I am not going to go back and tell the atheists that a Christian forum requires a fee to join, because those guys are already smug enough and I hate to encourage them.

Classified as "Married," you would also not be permitted to post in "singles" boards either. Nor can I, and several times I really wanted to. But not sure what the terms are to get access just yet, so I'm just biding my time.

Welcome saralynn. I can see you are 31 y/o and married. You definitely won't be able to post to the "singles" forum. You don't appear to have identified your faith. As far as I know from reading the forum rules, one must identify as belonging to the Christian faith (which are listed in the forum rules) in order to post to any of the "Christian forums." Perhaps a moderator could explain that better than I. Each forum appears to have a comprehensive post explaining the rules of that specific forum. God bless you. Today is national prayer day...

Hi; good to see you; I'm not a mod here, but maybe it has something to do with access to certain areas, depending on how one self-describes for registration purposes, or whether a certain amount of posts bring clearance for fuller posting, I don't know; sometimes something like this will happen; a mod might be able to tell you more.

God bless His Word to you. I see also that you maybe posted a few years ago! :)

Some of the forums here are restricted to particular demographics: Single only, married only, men only, women only, etc. You can only post in those forums if your profile match their demographics. I can't post in the singles-only forum, for example.

I concur with the others' response. I do want to clarify though that you do not need to pay to use the boards. There are some privileges like private messaging that I think you may need a few posts (I'm not sure what the exact requirements are though). Most likely, the Forums you are not able to post in have restrictions based on the options you choose in your profile (i.e. Faith, Gender, marital status). You can look at the Statement of Purpose at the top of each forum to see what the requirements are.

All that said, paid membership removes advertisements but does not prevent non-paying members from accessing or posting in forums. Christian Forums is free for everyone.

Looks like they have improved the checking . It used to be that I could post in the married forums and then I'd get in trouble for it. \

But a quick check of the age based forums showed that I do not get the insufficient privileges there and one can get in trouble for posting in the age dependent areas.

Also there are faith group areas where those outside that faith are allowed to post but are expected to be polite. Saying things that attack that faith group is not acceptable. The liberal Catholic area comes to mind. A lot of threads there were of interest to me and I've posted a fair amount there, though I've never been a Catholic of any sort.

Welcome to CF. @All4Christ has already pointed you to the information you need. Paying DOES turn off the ads (makes the site a good bit easier to use, I think), but you do NOT need to pay a cent to read or post.

This is a good forum. You might be surprised. Take care.

Hi. Keith99 is right about the limitations that go with certain forums, but as for your bigger question, no, it's not about paying money. Everyone's required to post awhile before being given full privileges. It's not very demanding, though, and you appear to me to already be there, so it may be something else.

I was 31 and married about thirty-five years ago. I have reached the point in which I have been married longer than I have been unmarried. My mother said something REALLY cynical in her sixties, which was "Ya spent 25 years trying to find a husband, 25 years trying to keep a husband and 25 years wondering why." Fortunately, I am not married to anyone remotely like my father, so my fate was not similar to her own!

Yes, I did join 6 years ago. I was having one of my cyclical religious crises, as I recall, but I don't remember anything particular about my experience here. I assume I whined a lot. As I mentioned before, soon after that, I ended up on an atheist forum which, oddly perhaps, helped resolve my intellectual reservations about God because it became obvious that many atheists on the Forum (but certainly not ALL) were trapped inside their brains. Plus...many members tended to be mean-spirited toward anyone with religious inclinations who wandered onto the Forum, which I found very upsetting. On the other hand, I did meet a few people who I greatly esteemed, which is why I hung around for so long.

Thank you everyone. I shall have to investigate and find out how I identified myself when I joined. Is there a section for Buddhist Sufi Catholic Jewish Quakers with Rastafarian leanings? I am feeling very optimistic about this Forum. I have been praying a lot lately about finding fellowship with someone or a group of someones who would be tolerant of a person like me, who has firmly held vague convictions, but is absolutely certain (well, 87% of the time) that God exists, Christ manifests the Divine, and the pursuit ( if not acquisition) of eternal values is our sacred duty.

Well, I have been wandering around in this Forum, walking into walls, which is not unusual for me. I think the problem is this....I registered several years ago and I can't recall anything I listed, but whatever I listed, I am fairly confident that my own self-description no longer applies to me, unless i mentioned that I am very good at scrabble and very bad with computers. So....how do I re-register and/or where do I find info about me, so that I can change it? This strikes me as something which should be very obvious, but....hey, did I mention that I am very good at scrabble and very bad with computers? I would also like to post an avatar, although, to be quite honest, the question mark is quite appropriate.
