A lot of it truly depends on the mood....=)
A song can be powerful and not be hard rock...(imo)....
Sometimes a person needs the quiet like the songs above.....
Mellow...
and sometimes perhaps "LOUDER" like the clip below? =)=)=)=)=)

Oh I agree; soft and powerful is very effective, especially if the result is to make the person think deeply in the conscience about God's Word.
But you do know how to appreciate hard hitting Biblical lyrics in loud, hard rock also, do you?

and different emotions at different times....
and I think the type of music used goes with what is going on inside......
You can't listen to a loud thrash screamer song when you're hurting and crying.....
You can't listen to a quiet soft acoustic after two pots of coffee and people getting on your case left and right all day long.....
Yes, I can appreciate hard hitting Biblical lyrics in loud, hard rock AND in soft, quiet tones.....=)

Yes, I would say that it could define me as a person.
BUT, not all the time, and not necessarily every day.....
It would when trying to wind down or work through a really tough and emotional set of circumstances.....
Or being super frustrated with things.....
I don't drink alcohol (hate the taste).....
I quit cigarettes about 5 years or so back....
I don't go out and hang out in bars/clubs.....
So sometimes to vent,
I think it is very useful to vent with positive lyrics and headphones.....
I can't scream out frustration (live in a condo).....
But the screams out in positive praise to God does vent it out.....
So yes, it does define me as a person at times....=)

Congrats on quitting smoking, btw.
Sometimes lyrics accompanied in loud hard rock can be sung effectively in rasping screamo.
