『South Korea’s Ministry of Justice confirmed on Feb. 2 that “civil war is not sufficient grounds for granting refugee status,” The Korea Observer reported.
A ministry official said Seoul is also concerned of the risk of sexual assaults which could occur should any migrants be allowed in.
“Judging by what we see in Europe, we would prefer to protect our women, rather than potentially place them at risk,” the official said.』
South Korea, Japan balk at admitting Syrian refugees
You may want to read a relative article I found while trying to find answers. It seems to be more even minded about the subject of sexual assault in Europe. Islam in Europe: Norway: Professor Unni Wikan on rapeIs there any evidence that specifically Syrian refugees have assaulted women in Europe? I don't mean single cases but systematic abuses.
I can't find the source of the article you linked.
I did find this article from 2015 which contains the first quote but obviously not the second.
Korean government denies nearly all Syrian refugees - The Korea Observer
What I'm thinking is that the Korean Ministry of Justice didn't really say they were refusing refugees because they fear sexual assaults.
Well I for one am shocked. If you google the second quote "Judging by what we see in Europe...", the few hits that come up are from norwegiandefenceleague and stormfront.
What bothers me is the inclination to direct people to paranoid hysteria and xenophobic bigotry. You may want to read a relative article I found while trying to find answers. What bothers me is the inclination to try and direct people to bury their head in the sand when dealing with subjects like these.
So you shouldn't be worried about allowing the rational criticism and an educated response to the inherent problems found in middle eastern cultures. Not to do so would strike me at best as being irrational and at worst, getting paranoid about paranoia. What bothers me is the inclination to direct people to paranoid hysteria and xenophobic bigotry.
Right. It's none of my business. Also I don't know their laws. I don't agree with allowing people, that are running for lives. To be sent back to possibly be killed. But I don't feel the USA should intervene. And bomb South Korea and Japan because they wont allow refugees in.South Korea and Japan will receive little if any criticism for obvious reasons.
