I usually just say something simple like I mention a common interest that I have with them or I mention that we have a high match rating and ask them to reply if they are also interested.

Just start a dialog as you would with anyone else. Based on their interests and what they wrote should be plenty to start a dialog. Ask open ended questions that require dialog/converstion. Avoid yes or no questions for the most part. If you are strong in your faith ( and I hope you are ), Christ should be in the early parts of the dialog.
examples- what church do you attend?
what is your favorite book in scripture?
What are you studying?
then there are things like favorite foods, music, career interests, school is applicable, etc, etc

Lololol that actually happened to my brother . but my friend ended up meeting a great guy and my other friend made his gf he met online his fiance a week ago, so not every online dating story is a horror story.
