On the first point, I agree. I was thinking of the carefully planned series of attacks on the president which I both read and hear daily. On the other point, I disagree. Some slanders have a hint of credibility to them, but that's not what the Soros Junior Warriors are employing these days. No absurdity is too much for them, hence *fantastic* even as slanders or libels go.

If it's ok to continue the derail given Spicer just issued a complete apology and hence </thread OP>, Do you think these things you mention actually cause Trump harm? It's my inference that the supporters don't believe them, and the retractors already don't like him. Is there any evidence that he's hurting in some way because of them? That there's a group of people swayed by the arguments?

I see. Do you now include Spicer himself as one of those SJW's? Because, in his interview with Wolf Blitzer, he has indeed conceded that his statements were a "blunder" and that they were "insensitive"..

Tell me, is Spicer now 'slandering' himself...?
"Blunder" and "Insensitive" do not address the matter of whether what was said was correct or not.

No. (Which means I agree with you).

We live in the Society of the Spectacle. This is just more of it.

What else could he say? At least this time they didn't double down on a clearly indefensible statement. Can it be that this bunch is starting to learn from experience? We can only hope.

Of course. The steady drumbeat of contrived "scandals," "scandals" that never were, and every possible expression of hate does take a toll on the public, if not so much on the president himself.

Obama had a free ride, so of course all of his gaffes and mistakes were papered over, yet here we're talking about something worse--a phony scandal that is based upon claiming that Sean Spicer said something that he did not, in fact, say.

Who's claiming "scandal"..?? YOU'RE the only one using that word!
Most people here seem to be describing it as clumsy, insensitive, ignorant, inappropriate, etc...descriptions which Spicer now agrees with...!

I would agree with you...

Spicer wasn't guilty of "holocaust denial"...if he's guilty of anything, it's being ill-suited for his job. In his position, he ought be able to choose his words more carefully...clearly he made mistake in the way he was trying to make his point.
Nobody is a perfect communicator all of the time. NOBODY. Not Spicer, not Trump, Not Obama, not Joe (gaff) Biden, not George Bush, not Bill Clinton and certainly not Hillary. Now, Ronald Reagan was pretty good ... but even he was not perfect.

The thing is ... when your job involves constant speaking there will be lots of opportunities for mis-speaks ... and when the press is looking to pounce on each and every one, they can be brutal.

Now, Obama and Biden were protected by the "mainstream" liberal press, but not by the upstart press which pounced on, if not every mis-speak, at least the major ones ... and liberals everywhere were repeatedly offended. Now, that a Republican is back in the Oval Office the mainstream press seeks to pounce on every mis-speak ... though I suspect they don't realize that many more people now realize exactly what they are doing and that there will be no consequences unless there is something significant and maybe not even then.

Obama said he was born in Kenya and that there were 57 states.

He didn't say either of those things. Not only a tu quoque, but a factually incorrect one.

Are we supposed to believe that a building (in which people were killed during WW2) is what all of us instantly thinks of when "weapon" is mentioned in connection to the events in Syria?

Zyclon B is a building?

Amazing that this doesn't get you banned here.

Walk through the museum in DC. If you can do it without feeling physically sick, i'd be surprised.
Better yet, I recommend Yad Vashim, Israel's holocaust remembrance center. Yad Vashem has an online presence as well so one doesn't really need to go to Israel to get a feeling for the extent of the holocaust.

Yeah, he denied the Holocaust, which is why he called concentration camps Holocaust Centers.

Spicer: Even Hitler didn't use chemical weapons

It doesn't get any more despicable than this. He even tried to clarify 4 times and made it worse with each attempt. Trump should fire him immediately.

People say dumb stuff all of the time, especially when they are tired or flustered. I am not going to call for someone to lose their job for poorly articulating a fair point. Gibson didn't lose his job when he blamed a 16 year old American and his father for the fact that Obama murdered him with a drone, so I think that this is a little less offensive than that.
