If you commit sin are you still of God? Yes or no

A claim was made by an Eternal Security Proponent here that they keep the Law better than anyone else who is not in line with their thinking.

However, the Eternal Security Proponent who claims they have died to a Law of righteousness in the sense that they are not under any Law salvation wise (and yet they keep the Law better by this method) is:

(a) Not keeping the Law better because they are undermining morality (or God's goodness) in the process by saying they can abide in unrepentant sin and still be saved. In other words, they are turning God's grace into a license for immorality by minimizing the consequences of sin.

(b) Not keeping the Law better because they many times disagree with doing a study on the Commands in the New Testament. Some think that doing such a study would be legalism. So God put His commands within His Word for us to ignore them?

(c) Not keeping the Law better because some say they break God's Commands (like lusting or lying) every day as if it was normal.

(d) Not keeping the Law better because many have left Eternal Security because they felt like they were living too sinfully as a result of such a belief. After they left Eternal Security, they were able to overcome their sin (that they couldn't before).

(e) Not keeping the Law better because 1 John 2:4 says that they that say they know Him and do not keep His Commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.

(f) Not keeping the Law better because they deny the goal of Sanctification in the Bible (Which is Sinless Perfectionism). Words from Jesus that tell us to be perfect are changed or ignored.

(g) Not keeping the Law better because they usually falsely accuse faithful saints in believing something they really do not believe in (even after we explain what we really believe). Jesus said we will know false prophets by their fruit.

I will be praying for Mr. Lawrence.
I encourage others who agree with me to pray for him, too. We have to hold out hope.

Jesus is God.
And He lives within believers.

Also, when we say that we are keeping God's laws but yet we minimize them or do not even study them, there is a real problem going on here.

Now, I believe the KJV is God's perfect word for our day (and it is my final word of authority), but it was written in 1600's English and it still is not updated in the proper grammar yet.

Sometimes with the KJV (Which has influenced Modern Translations) is not always so clear and a Modern Translation can help to open up what the KJV is actually really saying.

I will give you an example.

Colossians 2:17.

In the KJV, Colossians 2:17 says,
"Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."

However, lets read this same verse in another translation that is a little more clearer.
It says in the GWT,

"These are a shadow of the things to come, but the body [that casts the shadow] belongs to Christ." (Colossians 2:17 GWT).

Do you see how clear that verse sounds now? While I may not like a lot of God's Word Translation, in this particular case it really hits the nail on the head in what this verse is really saying.

John 10:29 is in reference to humanity and not to the different persons of the Godhead who all exist together as one God or one being.

John 14:28 is in reference to hierachy within the Godhead. This does not mean they are separate entities. They are all one with each other in the Godhead. For Jesus says He is one with the Father.

Jesus says, "Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me." (John 14:11).

"Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God." (John 5:18).

In John 20:17, Jesus is primarily speaking from his perspective as a man.
For Jesus is both God and man.
Jesus had to be our substitute to pay the price for our sins so that we can walk in the light as He is in the light. For Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the devil.
On the cross, Jesus says, "my God, my God..." but this was Jesus quoting from Psalms 22.
Jesus (using David's words) was speaking as if he was you and me while on the cross.

But even when speaking of God, it is still not a contradiction for Jesus to say that the Father is His God if Jesus is God, too. For in the Trinity, the Father is God, the Word is God, and the Holy Ghost is God and they are all one God or being (Yet they exist as distinct persons). The Father is Jesus's God in the sense that He is co-eually God and that He always does everything the Father says and He is a part of Him and He is one with Him.

The Bible clearly teaches that there are distinctions within the persons of the Godhead. Here are a couple of quick points.

#1. The word Elohim (אֱלֹהִ֔ים) is both a singular and a plural noun.
#2. God refers to Himself in plural form (Genesis 1:26) (Genesis 3:22) (Genesis 11:7) (Isaiah 6:8).
#3. Plurality of God in New Testament (Matthew 28:19) (2 Corinthians 13:14) (John 14:16-20).
#4. Introductions to both the Son & Holy Spirit (Daniel 7:9,10,13,14) (John 14:16)
#5. Different persons of Godhead appear at one time (Luke 3:21-22)

In John 17:3, the only true God is in reference to the Trinity (Thereby including the Holy Spirit).
A comma should be there in the KJV like it is included in many Modern Translations.
1 John 5:20 is clearly in reference to Jesus Christ as being the true God.

John 17:3 is referring to the Trinity as the only true God.
For the Trinity is the only true God.

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse."
(Romans 1:20).

As the above Scripture states, the Godhead (Trinity) can be seen in the things that are made (i.e. the creation) and even the unseen things within the creation.

There are many examples of the Trinity that can be found within nature (or the creation):

Atoms = Nucleus, Protons, Electrons.
Water Molecules = Hydrogen Atom, Hydrogen Atom, Oxygen Atom.
Colors of White Light = Red, Blue, Green.
Man's Formation = Dust, Mist (i.e. Water), Breadth of Life.
Man (Made in God's Image) = Physical Body, Spirit Body, Soul.
Time = Past, Present, Future.
Earth = Crust, Mantle, Core
3 Major Types of Light in the Sky = Sun, Moon, Stars
3 Major Winged Fowl = Birds, Mammals (Bats), Reptiles (Pterodactyl)
3 Major Values = Black, Grey, White

Also, in regards to John 20:17 again.

"Jesus saith unto her,
"Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.""
(John 20:17).

Is Jesus (Who is God) really saying He has a God?
In other words, does God have a God?

Well, in the beginning of the gospel of John, it says this...

John 1:1-2 KJV - "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH God, and the Word WAS God. The same was in the beginning with God."

In other words, John 20:17 is speaking in a similar way as John 1:1. The Word (Jesus - who is God) was with God the Father.

So when Jesus says... "I ascend unto... my God..." He is acknowledging that He is ascending to the Father who is God in essence in being (as a part of the plurality of the Godhead).

Yet, how can God have a God? Doesn't that imply a possession?
Yes, but Jesus says elsewhere, "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30).
Also, when Jesus uses the word "my" in the words "my God" He is also referring to whom He always obeys, too (Sort of like how a loyal servant always obeys His ruling King).

For Jesus says elsewhere, "... for I do always those things that please him." (John 8:29).
Also, when Jesus claimed to be God, and the Pharisees wanted to kill him for it, Jesus quoted Old Testament Scripture that says, "ye are gods." (i.e. gods = kings) as a way of protecting His mission in going to the cross (John 10:34).

Anyways, confusion on this topic arises because people need to know that the Lord our God is one God and yet He also has a plural nature to Him, as well.

For the Bible teaches that there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) (1 Timothy 2:5) (Isaiah 45:5).

Yet, the Bible also teaches that there are distinctions within the Godhead or that there is a plural nature to God.

Here are a couple of quick points:

The absurdity of saying that a person can ignore God's commands in the New Testament and they say they can abide in unrepentant serious sin and yet they say they love God and others is an oxymoron.

To those who preach for sin and defeat here, consider this verse, talking to believers.

"
2 Corinthians 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God"

notice the filthiness of spirit. Some say we can never have our spirit filthy they say it is only our flesh that is filthy. And so they see 1 John 3:6-9 differently than it reads. They say we cannot sin in our spirit but we sin in our flesh. But Jesus also said sin begins in the heart and committing sin can take place immediately in your heart before you do the act.
