Nonsense! Your post was about the current meaning, not the origin:

You realize that lying is a sin, right?
No, either I am not being clear or you're not following my train of thought. My response to the other gentleman showed that I was discussing the origin of the word not it's current meaning. I was arguing generally before getting to any specifics. I noticed that most people by nature lead their reasoning either deductively or inductively.

Ok. Let's move on.

I was just responding to you saying salvation is dependent on the shape of the earth. I am still looking for the scripture where Jesus says that.
I hope and pray that one day you will understand that we will be judged by the words we speak.

So can you please defend with scripture that the earth is spherical and moves around the sun?

why would i do that? I could care less if the earth was a piece of swiss cheese floating on ocean of marshmallows. if i woke up tomorrow and it was proven without a doubt that the earth was flat, it woulnd't effect my life at all. i also don't consider the Bible a science book. it's a book about God and salvation.

i do think you trying to use it as a science book and pressing the shape of the earth into a spiritual issue will be something you will answer for one day. but as I said. God is merciful so you will be fine! :D

If you knew anything about science then you would know that it is Latin for 'knowledge': therefore I am not wrong for using the Bible as my knowledge base.
Still you have not given any evidence Biblically to support your view.

Also listen to the words of the prophet Solomon:

"Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the YHWH is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed."
-1 Samuel 2:3

We see that God is a God of science and weighs actions through science. And how could you come to learn about God and salvation had God not created and passed on science through a science book called the Bible?

Sure. But that's not how we were using the word.

What view? The swiss cheese and marshmallows or not caring about what shape the earth is?

You got me on the swiss cheese, as for not caring i will lay down a little John 3:16 (from the New Testament if you want to look it up). Speaks about believing in Jesus to be saved, but leaves out the part about the shape of the earth.

Then please explain how you are using the word science? The word generally speaking discusses knowledge I specifically asked you to use the Bible to base your claim on the earth being spherical. You must have also missed where it says that the Bible is profitable for all things. And you seem to skip over Isaiah 40:22 where it says that the earth is a circle and Proverbs 8:27 which states that God drew a compass over the face of the deep.

Would you agree that spirit has energy? After all the spirit moves the body and that movement as we observe in nature is due to energy: therefore spirit has energy. When the Spirit of God hovered over the waters it moved because it as energy within itself.

No, at least not in the way it manifests in the physical world. The spirit doesn't move the body. Our muscles and bones move our bodies, and that energy comes from cheeseburgers and coffee.

If that is true then where did God get His energy from before creating food?

You do know energy is a physical property and not a spiritual property, right? And you know God is a spirit. You are trying to combine things that don't go together.

Also, what makes you think God would even need energy? He's not a battery, he's deity.

According to the law of conservation all matter which is destroyed will be reconverted back to energy and all lost energy will return to it's point of origin. Energy never runs out as it cannot be created or destroyed: therefore God's energy is limitless while the energy he gives us is limited. I never said that God needs energy I said that He is Energy. The Physical and the Spiritual are inseperable just as the body and the spirit are one: God demonstrated this when He created man: He made his body from the earth and combined it with His Spirit.

I have always (and still do) believe that the Earth is indeed spherical.

But I've noticed lately that there are a surprising number of Christians who hold to the flat earth/geocentric model. And so I was wondering which model people here subscribed to. I'm really interested in creating some discussion about this.

Do you believe the Earth is round or flat? What is your evidence?

Here's some of my evidence to start off:

  • The night sky in the northern hemisphere appears to rotate around polaris. It appears to rotate the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere around the southern cross. This can't happen on the flat earth model.
  • On the flat earth model, someone in Canada and someone in Argentina could potentially be looking at different sides of the moon, but everyone always sees the same side.
  • Gps systems are created with a spherical earth in mind. They wouldn't work otherwise.
  • Ships disappear over the horizon bottom first.
  • This video shows how snipers have to take in to account the rotation of the Earth when shooting.
Either: The Its round or flat debate with both
Sides showcasing hard evidence that proves
Undeniably that the shape/ surface is, 1 side
Say it's flat, while the other side days it's round.
This topic in recent months that (I.M.O) has been getting ugly and hot tempered. With both sides standing strong in their beliefs of it's shape. To the extent of any-one not believing as They do is unreal/ unthinkable.
Either the earth is round or flat is a long debate
Still ongoing, until then I believe under my own
Intelligence that we are not rotating or spinning
At 1000 mph.

:)

I'm willing to accept that the earth might be flat now. All things are possible with God... Right?! :D Right.

The one question that really keeps me with the whole "spherical earth" theory (okay, i'm going to laugh now, forgive me please!)

When pilots fly intercontinental, wouldn't many have had the opportunity to fly off the edge of the world... and into outer space... if earth were flat? Does the flat earth sort of loop around like Mario Battle on the SNES?

If this is true, I promise to leave this thrwad, never to return.
Promise??

From: NASA - Moonquakes

The first three were generally mild and harmless. Shallow moonquakes on the other hand were doozies. Between 1972 and 1977, the Apollo seismic network saw twenty-eight of them; a few "registered up to 5.5 on the Richter scale," says Neal. A magnitude 5 quake on Earth is energetic enough to move heavy furniture and crack plaster.

Furthermore, shallow moonquakes lasted a remarkably long time. Once they got going, all continued more than 10 minutes.
"The moon was ringing like a bell," Neal says.

From: Apollo 13 "Houston, we've got a problem." Page 15

It occurred at 8:09 p.m. EST, April 14. The S-IVB struck the Moon with a force equivalent to 11 1/2 tons of TNT. It hit 85 miles west northwest of the site where the Apollo 12 astronauts had set up their seismometer. Scientists on Earth said, "the Moon rang like a bell."

Back in November 1969, the Apollo 12 astronauts had sent their Lunar Module crash- ing into the Moon following their return to the command craft after the lunar landing mission. That Lunar Module struck with a force of one ton of TNT. The shock waves built up to a peak in eight minutes and con- tinued for nearly an hour.

So, Hollywood can make a movie like "Gravity" with a tiny budget compared to the budget of NASA and you believe that NASA could not fake these images?
Why would NASA fake the space program? Was the shuttle fake? Is the international space station fake? Satalites? The Mars probe?
