Sad. Compassion International (CI) is not the only foreign-based organization or foreign-based Christian ministry Narenda Modi pulled out of India, but CI is the largest Christian one pulled out. According to one figure I
read, 145,000 orphans in India are now or soon will be without CI-channeled funding.
Offer was made to keep CI in India provided it shed its distinctively Christian name & funding. Such disrespect for the name of Christ and the orphans He cares for cannot go without consequence in heaven. Meanwhile may the Lord provide and let the nations know the LORD is God.
In political terms, Modi is probably playing to his ostensible religiously conservative (Hindu) base while also riding an Indian version of recent international surges in nationalism/xenophobia/anti-globalism (of which Brexit may be read partly as one example, but think of Le Pen in France, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, Trump in the US, etc.).
But in other ways Modi seems also to be aiming to please trade partners particularly in the BRICS nations sphere (and big banks, IMF), in which US-based CI may be painted as "odd man out." May the Lord use the trends over which He is Sovereign (not always honored as such) to grant peace and provision to these bereaved orphans and to His church in India.
