Was Muhammad the Prophet Like Moses?

The short answer is no Muhammad was not the prophet like Moses.

If you disagree, please present your evidence.

Thank you.

Hagar was promised that Ishmael would become the father of a mighty nation,

It follows then that sooner or later there would be set up a prophet for that nation.

It is not so that we are waiting for a Prophet to fill Moses place,
From Moses time and onward Prophets have been set up passed on what was first recieved from Moses, until prophesy departed from Israel.

Add on to #21,
After prophesy departed from Israel there remained however a lesser kind, divine inspiration,
as in the Words of Prophet Joel.

Yet in a letter to the Jews of Yemen,
Maimonodies recounts an age old tradition that,
"Shortly before the messianic era,
prophesy will return to the Jewish people."

That's like directing people who want to know about Jewish culture to the KKK or a retired SS Soldier. A clear warning is given to those who spread misinformation;

The Final Prophet of GOD said,

Last night two men came and took me by the hand and brought me to the Holy Land. I could see one man sitting and another man standing holding an iron hook which he stuck into the side of the sitting man's mouth so that it came out at the back of his neck. Then he did the same to the other side. After his mouth had healed itself and gone back to normal, he did the same thing all over again. I asked what this was and they told me to go on.
We went on until we came to a man lying on his back. Another man was standing at his head with a stone or a rock with which he smashed it.

'I said to my companions, "You have been with me for the whole night, so now tell me about what I have seen."
'They replied, "Certainly! The man you saw whose mouth was being pierced was the originator of a lie, which spread from him to all parts of the earth. He will suffer like that until the Day of Rising.'

After his death people would promote their businesses and matters of religion by attributing the sayings to the Prophet. For example someone might promote his restaurant as being the favourite place of the Prophet pbuh or encourage people to always recite a certain Chapter for guidance in the Qur'an.

The Prophet warned people;

On the authority of `Aly (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
MEDIA-H2.GIF
Do not attribute matters to me falsely, for anyone who attributes false matters to me will be doomed to Hell-Fire.
MEDIA-H1.GIF

Also, it is related by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Ascribing false things to me is not like ascribing false things to anyone else. Whosoever tells a lie about me intentionally, let him occupy his seat in Hell-Fire!"

This is also recorded in the Sahih (book of authentic Hadiths)

Muslims are happy to answer questions and charges brought against the Prophet, and only ask you behave Christ like and bring real evidence for examination. Only the Qur'an and authentic Hadiths will do, and certainly not lies being spread by those securing their doom in the hereafter.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” - Mahatma Ghandi

Not so fast brethren.

I showed the term Brother extends to the Ishmaelites. If you can show the Prophet to come was only allowed to be from a certain Tribe, then fair enough you might have had a case.

I recall Cyrus a non Israelite was anointed by GOD to lead the Israelites back to their Land, and Balaam pbuh was one of 7 non Hebrew Prophets sent to God's chosen people.

The Ishmaelites are described as Bedouin who live in the desert, raise camels (see especially the inclusion of Obil the Ishmaelite, who was "over the camels," among David's officers, I Chron. 27:30), are desert robbers (cf. Gen. 16:12), and periodically overrun the permanent settlement and plunder it (Ps. 83:7; Judg. 8:24). In addition, the Ishmaelites engaged in caravan trade (Gen. 37:25). (For relations of kinship and intermarriage between the Ishmaelite groups, who were close to the borders of settled areas, and the permanent inhabitants cf. Gen. 28:9, 36:3; I Chron 2:17.)
Page Not Found <<<Oh dear, they have updated their site. Still no matter as they improved it :)

KEDEMITES OR EASTERNERS (Heb. בְּנֵי קֶדֶם (benei kedem, bene qedem), adjective qadmoni, קַדְמֹנִי; Gen. 15:19) is a general designation for the peoples living on the eastern border of Syria and Palestine, from as far north as Haran (Gen. 29:1–4) to as far south as the northern end of the Red Sea (Gen. 25:1–6). In Israelite ethnology, all these peoples, and the Ishmaelites as well, who ranged from the border of Egypt to Assyria (i.e., the Middle Euphrates), and who included the inhabitants of Tema and Dumah (Gen. 25:12–18), were all related. Their center of dispersion was the Middle Euphrates region – called Aram-Naharaim (Gen. 24:10; Deut. 23:5), Paddan-Aram (Gen. 28:2, 5, 6, 7; 31:18 (or Paddan, Gen. 48:7)), "the country Aram" (Hos. 12:13), or simply Aram (Num. 23:7). From here Abraham and Lot moved to Canaan (Gen. 12:5). Lot eventually moved to Transjordan and became the ancestor of Moab and Ammon (Gen. 19:30ff.), while Abraham became the ancestor of all the other Kedemites, including the Ishmaelites, and of the Israelites as well. His son Isaac and the latter's son Jacob-Israel married wives from Abraham's original home-land, where Jacob even lived for 20 years.

Hence the confession, "My father was a wandering/ fugitive Aramean who migrated to Egypt" (Deut. 26:5). The Israelites acknowledged all those peoples as their kin in contrast to the Canaanites. The Kedemites enjoyed among the Israelites a great reputation for wisdom. Not only does David quote a Kedemite proverb which he characterizes as such, but the wisdom of the Kedemites is rated only lower than Solomon's though higher than that of the Egyptians (I Kings 5:10), and Isaiah represents the Egyptian king's wise men as seeking to impress him by claiming descent from sages of Kedem (this, not "of old," is the meaning of qedem in Isa. 19:11). A wise instruction by the mother of a Kedemite king, *Lemuel , to her royal son is preserved, according to the superscription, in Proverbs 31:1–9; for Massa is the name of an Ishmaelite tribe (Gen. 25:14; on the Aramaizing diction, see *Job ). *Agur son of Jakeh was doubtless of the same nationality as Lemuel, according to Proverbs 30:1, where ha-massa'i, "the Massaite," is to be read. The reputed wisdom of the Edomites (included among the Kedemites in Isa. 11:14) is alluded to in Jeremiah 49:7; Obadiah 7 end, 8.

Kedemites or Easterners

Examples of Intermarriage amongst the brethren

Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite. Jether the Ishmaelite — By birth or habitation, but by profession an Israelite, 2 Samuel 17:25.

2 Samuel 17:25 (25) Amasa.—Joab having adhered to David and gone away with him, Absalom chose his cousin to succeed him as commander-in-chief.

Gen 28:9 Esau, Isaac's son married an Ishmaelite from his uncle Ishmael's side.

Clearly the Israelites and Ishmaelites were considered one people in the past who intermarried.

They also fought together:
Zebah and Zalmunna, were 2 kings from Median who invaded Israel.
The men of Israel, both Israelites and Ishmaelites under Gideon fought, captured and subsequently killed them. Gideon said, GOD would rule over them, rather than a King and all the men should give gold. The Ishmaelites gave gold nose rings

Ishmaelites were also referred to as Midianites, so more passages can be found related to intermarriage if needed.

Study guides make clear what Brethren means:
Brethren: denotes any blood-relation or kinsman (Genesis 14:16; 1 Samuel 20:29; 2 Kings 10:13; 1 Chronicles 23:2, etc.)
Strong's Greek: 80. ἀδελφός (adelphos) -- a brother

Brother - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia

Abram's nephew, Lot, is termed "brother" (Genesis 14:14)

Moses' fellow-countrymen are "brethren" (Exodus 2:11; Acts 3:22; compare Hebrews 7:5);

An ally (Amos 1:9), or an allied or cognate people (Numbers 20:14);

Of friends (Job 6:15);

By the way you are making my task easier by excluding the tribe of Levite, because Mary ra mother of Jesus pbuh was a Levite, and we know to claim the Throne of King David pbuh your father had to biologically descend from him, step children need not apply. That's according to the rules of the Pentateuch, and we know the 2 Genealogies found in Matthew and Luke are inaccurate anyway.

This issue must have crossed Jesus' mind pbuh, as he remarks to the Scribes, “David himself calls him [the Messiah] ‘Lord,’ so how is he his son?” That is, David speaks of the Messiah as “my Lord,” rather than as “my son.”

Jesus thus alleges, The Messiah therefore cannot be a son of David. Using Psalm 110 as his proof text. Mark 12:36

The context of Det. 18 is that the prophet like Moses would come from the tribes of the Israelites.

Muhammad did not come from a tribe of the Israelites. That leaves Muhammad out.

You must consider the context and not ignore it.

I see your rebuttals are getting shorter.

In the final Chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy, we are told if a Prophet like Moses pbuh ever arose from amongst the Israelites:

Deut 34:10 says never again will another Prophet arise from Israel like Moses pbuh.

יוְלֹא קָם נָבִיא עוֹד בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל כְּמשֶׁה אֲשֶׁר יְדָעוֹ יְהֹוָה פָּנִים אֶל פָּנִים:
Devarim - Deuteronomy - Chapter 34 (Parshah V'Zot HaBerachah)

עוֹד = od: a going around, continuance, still, yet, again, beside
Strong's Hebrew: 5750. עוֹד (od) -- a going around, continuance, still, yet, again, beside

New International Version
Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,

New Living Translation
There has never been another prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face.

Jewish Commentary on Deuteronomy 34:10 ...
Never again: Note the discrepancy between the perspective of this verse and the divine promise to Moses that the line of prophetic succession will continue in the future.. "I will raise up a Prophet from amongst them...like yourself." (18:18) The Jewish Study Bible - pg 450

The Sages note the Torah'statement here that in Israel there will never be a Prophet like Moses implies that among the non-Jewish nations - there could be such a prophet and the Sages explain this Prophet was Balaam. Artscholl Chumash Commentary on Deuteronomy - pg 187

So again we ask, who is the non Israelite Prophet to come?

"....and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren." Genesis 16:12 <<<< Ishmael pbuh

Deuteronomy 18:18 the Prophet like Moses pbuh from amongst the brethren of the people.

I think you have to concede from your perspective, this Prophet has not come yet just like the 'Spirit of Truth' mentioned in the Gospel of John:

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

How was Prophet Muhammad pbuh commanded to start each Chapter of the Qur'an?
Every one except one starts:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Deuteronomy 34:10Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
10 No prophet has arisen again in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face.

This means up until that time period.

If I used what I guess is your point, then there would never be a prophet like Moses, which again leaves Muhammad out.

Notice this part: "whom the Lord knew face to face." God did not speak to Muhammad face-to-face, but supposedly through an angel, which again leaves Muhammad out.

The Gospel of John, the "Spirit of Truth" is not Muhammad; Jesus plainly said it was the Holy Spirit of God.

It is Jesus who is the Prophet like Moses; He came from the Tribe of Judah.

No sorry you are misrepresenting the word עוֹד = od: a going around, continuance, still, yet, again, beside.

Bible commentaries have no choice but to change the meaning, as they like you insist Jesus pbuh was the Prophet mentioned in Deut 18:18. They forget, looking through the lens of Christian Doctrine:

Moses pbuh was accepted by his people, gave them Monotheism, fought to spread the Shariah etc.

Jesus pbuh was rejected by his people, and according to you introduced the Triune Godhead, was a pacifist and fought no one. The Israelites specifically asked not to see GOD, so again Jesus being 100% God couldn't be that Prophet.

Moses pbuh was a Law giver and implementer. He set up a State governing the people.
Jesus pbuh was asked about the lady caught in adultery and passed no judgement. He set up no Government, instead encouraged the people to give to their Pagan occupiers what was due.

Moses pbuh received revelation.
Jesus pbuh as 100% God was the revelation.

Sorry but no Jesus pbuh was not like Moses, and coming from Judah, עוֹד could never be that Prophet.

If I used what I guess is your point, then there would never be a prophet like Moses, which again leaves Muhammad out.

Show me the verse, as he never saw GOD face to face literally, the term is a Metaphor for being Spiritually/Physically elevated to be in GOD's company or presence.

The Gospel of John, the "Spirit of Truth" is not Muhammad; Jesus plainly said it was the Holy Spirit of God.
Let's deal with 18:18 then we can examine John's Gospel in detail.

Let's deal with 18:18 then we can examine John's Gospel in detail.

Moses and Jesus compared:

1. Great Lawgiver for his nation. Jesus taught on his own authority the laws of God and raised observance of those laws to a new and higher level (Matthew chapters 5, 6 & 7): He taught as an authority and the people were amazed (Matthew 7:28-29); He selected and taught the two greatest laws (Matthew 22:35-40); He gave a new commandment (John 13:34-35); and at the very end of His teaching and leadership on earth, He delivered orders to His followers regarding "all that I have commanded you." (Matt. 28:19-20)

2. One of the Two Men who were commissioned by God to make laws for the Israelite nation. The approval of Heaven on both was shown by great signs and miracles. At the time of Moses there was the Exodus from the hand of ancient Pharaoh, feeding with manna and quails and with water from the rocks. At the time of Jesus there was healing crippled, blind, deaf, speechless and epileptics. He even threw demons out of people. Many dead people were raised back to life and health (also see Matt. 27:52-52); feeding of 5000 and of 4000 men, plus women and children.

3. Had His Face Glow With Light, but it faded away (Exodus 34:29-35 and 2nd Corinthians 3:12-13). The face of Jesus shined like the sun (Matthew 17:1-5) and is still shining like the sun while in heaven (Revelation 1:9-19).

4. Deliverer of His Brethren who would Follow Him Out of Physical Slavery then he gave them the law. Jesus came and gave law and commandments to His followers. Then He delivered them and other followers around the world out of the spiritual slavery of sin and Satan.

5. Was Born into a Situation When his Brethren were being Oppressed by Pharaoh. Jesus was born into the time when the pagan idolatrous Roman empire was oppressing His brethren.

6. Was Born in a Country where a Man, Pharaoh, was Worshiped as God. When Jesus was born the ruling Romans worshiped Caesar as God.

7. Grew up in a Country where the King, Pharaoh, was Afraid that the Slaves would Revolt. Jesus grew up where King Herod, "the Great," was afraid the descendants of those very same slaves would revolt.

8. Was Nursed a Short Time at His Birthplace, Then was Moved for His Safety. The infant Moses was placed in a floating basket in the Nile (Exodus 2 and Acts 7:20). Jesus was nursed a short time in Bethlehem and then was taken to Egypt for safety (Matt. 2).

9. Was Nursed by His Own Mother while the Official Government Policy was to Try Kill Him. King Herod tried to kill the infant Jesus (Matt. 2).

10. Father was a Mystery to the General Public. The Father of Jesus and the facts of His virgin birth were a mystery to the general public (Luke 1).

11. Was Adopted into the Royal Family of Pharaoh. Jesus was adopted by His step-father, Joseph, into the royal family line of King David and Solomon (Matt. 1).

12. Rejected being Kingly in Life-style (Hebrews 11:23-29). Jesus did not have the life-style of royalty (Matt. 4:8-11; John 6:15 & 18:36).

13. Lived in Egypt. Jesus lived in Egypt as an infant (Matt. 2:13-21).

14. Came Out of Egypt to Serve God and be A Lawgiver and Leader. Jesus came out of Egypt to be a lawgiver and leader.

15. 40 Years was Tested in Wilderness. Jesus was tested 40 days in the wilderness and had approximately 40 months of public teaching and miracle working.

16. 40 Days Fasting (Exodus 34:28). Jesus fasted 40 days (Matt. 4).

17. A Shepherd of sheep. Jesus is the Great Good Shepherd of His followers (John 10:11-16).

18. The White Hand of Leprosy (Exodus 4:6-7). Jesus healed many different people of leprosy (Luke 17:11-19).

19. Asked that the great Sin of His People be Forgiven (Exodus 32:31-32). Jesus asked that the great sin of His people be forgiven (Luke 23:34).

20. Had the cloud of God and the voice of God as a witness of his authority (Numbers 11:24-25). Jesus had the cloud of God and the voice of God as a witness of His authority (Matthew 17:24-25).

21. Exercised power from God over forces of nature such as wind and water. At the Red (Reed) Sea, he walked through on dry ground (Exodus 14). Jesus walked on water and instantly calmed a storm (Matt. 14).

22. Fire was important. At Mt. Horeb/Mt. Sinai there was fire (Ex. 3:1-6; 19:18 and 24:12-18) and there was the pillar of fire (Ex. 13:21-22). Jesus baptized the people with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Matt. 3:11-17 and Acts 2:1-4) and at the Transfiguration His face shined like the fire of the sun (John 17:1-3). Also see 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7; 1 Corinthians 3:11-14; Hebrews 12:29; and 2 Peter 3:1-14.

23. Was faithful as a Servant in all his house (Hebrews 3:5). Jesus was faithful as a Son over His house (Hebrews 3:6).

24. Brought water from a rock by a miracle of God (Exodus 17). Jesus Himself was the Living Water which was brought out of the tomb-rock which could not hold Him (John 7:37-38).

25. Asked that his nation be saved or else that his own name be blotted out of the Lord's book (Exodus 32:31-32). Jesus was willing to die, and did die, and was resurrected and thereby shown to be the perfect and acceptable ransom for sin.

26. A mountain was prominent in his work where the law was given for a nation. A mountain was prominent in the work of Jesus. He gave the famous Sermon on the Mountain with the law for people of all nations (Matthew 5, 6, & 7).

27. His followers were angry when other people showed performing signs (Numbers 11:26-29). Followers of Jesus did the same (Mark 9:38-40).

28. An angel watched over his body (Jude 9). Jesus had at least two angels watching over His body (John 20).

29. Had revealed to him the special sacred memorial or covenant Name of God (often called "Jehovah" in English) (Exodus 3:13-15). That special name was bestowed to Jesus (Philippians 2:5-11).

30. Was mighty in words and deeds (Acts 7:22). Jesus was more powerful in words and deeds (Matt. 7:28-29; and 8:3-13).

31. Sent 12 men to look over the land secretly (Numbers 12). Jesus sent out his 12 disciples to look over the same land and to publicly preach repentance and to cast out unclean spirits (Mark 6:6-13).

32. Did not have special clothing symbolic of his rank. Jesus also did not have special clothing showing His rank.

33. Did not have biological sons to carry on his spiritual functions. Neither did Jesus.

34. Was very gracious to foreign women at wells and gave them water (Exodus 2:15-17). Jesus was gracious to the Samaritian woman at Jacob's well and gave her the Water of Life (John 4). He was also gracious to: Mary Magdalene out of whom He threw 7 demons (Mark 16:9); Marium and Martha the sisters of Lazarus (Luke 10:38-41 and John 11); the woman arrested during adultery and he commanded her to stop sinning (John 8); the widow at Nain and He brought her son back to life (Luke 7:11-17); and He allowed the women to be the first to know that He had been raised from the dead (Matt. 28 and Mark 16).

35. True identity was not known at first to the women at the well (Exodus 2). The true identity of Jesus was not known at first to the woman at the well (John 4).

36. Lived modestly, only once being given an offering (Leviticus 8:29). Jesus lived a very modest life, sometimes not even owning a place to sleep (Luke 9:58).

37. Was involved in the activities of the holy Tabernacle on earth (Exodus 25-40). Jesus is involved in the perfect Tabernacle in Heaven made by God (Hebrews 8).

38. Was humble. Jesus was gentle and humble (Matt. 11:28-30).

51. Fought against the masters of evil (Ex. 5-12). Jesus battled Satan (Matt. 4:1-10).

52. Left a high position in the most powerful nation on earth to suffer for his people (Exodus 2-12 and Hebrews 11:23-27). Jesus left the highest position in Heaven to suffer for His people and to make ransom available to all people (Philippians 2:5-8).

60. Reappeared unto men after death (Matt. 17:3). Jesus reappeared to people, even to 500 at once, after His death and resurrection (Matt. 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20 & 21; and Acts 1:1-3).

61. Was rejected by his family (Numbers 12). Jesus' own half-brothers rejected Him at first (Matt. 13:55 & John 7:5). But, later at least two were believers and wrote the two New Testament books of James and Jude.

Here are some of the observations of eye witnesses of the life of Jesus, the prophet.

The people said after Jesus fed over 5,000 people, "This is of a truth the Prophet who is to come into the world. ... They were intending to come and take Him by force, to make Him King..." (John 6:14-15). Philip proclaimed, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the [adopted step-] son of Joseph." (John 1:45). Andrew said, "We have found the Messiah." (John 1:14). Nethanael declared, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God." (John 1:49). Peter preached that the Prophet of Deuteronomy 18:18 is Jesus and that "God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets that His Messiah should suffer He has thus fulfilled. " (Acts 3:18-27). Also see Stephen's message (Acts 7:37 & 52).

Jesus stated that Moses wrote about Him (Luke 24:27 and John 5:46).

39. Gave blessings from God to be given via Aaron to the people (Numbers 6:22-27). Jesus gave blessing from God to the people (Matt. 5:1-12) and told His followers to bless others (Luke 6:27-28).

40. Got complaints from the people who had been trained to write (Exodus 5:13-23). Jesus got complaints from the scribes (writers of the law) (Matt. 9:2-8; 16:21; and 21:12-16).

41. Opponent, Pharaoh, had his heart hardened (Ex. 7:3). Jesus' opponents had their hearts hardened because He healed on the Sabbath (Luke 6:7-11).

42. Law caused severe punishment, even death. Even greater punishment is against those who go back against Jesus (Hebrews 10:28-31).

Copy and paste aside. 34:10 No other Prophet to ever come again like Moses from amongst the Israelites. This is why Jewish Scholars looked at Gentile candidates like Balaam. Jesus pbuh was the Messiah, not the Prophet from Deut 18:18

Never again: "Note the discrepancy between the perspective of this verse and the divine promise to Moses that the line of prophetic succession will continue in the future"..

All this story telling after the fact is irrelevant and mostly fabricated;

The Jewish Historian Josephus was briefly the Governor of Galilee, the very province Jesus lived and taught. He travelled every part of the province and visited the places, where just one generation before, Jesus was wowing the crowds with his amazing feats. He resided in Cana, where John records his first miracle. Every noted person in Palestine is mentioned, and every important event, which occurred there mentioned. He wrote pages on insignificant criminals of the time, devoted 40 Chapters to a single King, yet we are to believe, The Son of GOD Himself doesn't get a mention?!

And point 6, the Roman replaced Caesar with Jesus, the Sun of God and what does Torah say about those who call people to worship anyone besides the God of Abraham pbuh?

Mark 13:30 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

32 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

So he's coming back in their Generation, but only his father knows the exact day. This of course didn't happen and the Torah mentions those who make certain 'predictions'.

Clearly Jesus pbuh didn't say these things, rather people trying to convert others were telling these tales of impending Judgement and fanciful tales.

Look again at deut 18:18 "I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him."

If Jesus pbuh is that Prophet, why then does he say; John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. <<<Sounds just like the Prophet in Deut 18:18

Spirit = Prophet, "By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God." 1 John 4:2

Church History shows Spirit of Truth, (Prophet) is not the Holy Spirit, as the Church fought and argued for Centuries to decide if Jesus was human or divine, created or uncreated, the father or distinct from the father, was he subordinate to the father or co equal etc, so it did not guide them unto all truth and today the 45,000+ Churches all claim to have their own truth. The Holy Spirit is something that abides within people to give them conviction of faith. Not a human Prophet who is told what to speak.

Was Muhammad the Prophet Like Moses?
The short answer is no Muhammad was not the prophet like Moses.
If you disagree, please present your evidence.
Thank you.

Hey George..
For me the short answer is "yes"... I read the Tanakh or Deuteronomy 18:15 as follows:

JPS Tanakh 1917
A prophet will the LORD thy God raise up unto thee, from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

So who were the "brethren" from which the Prophet was to appear?

In this case the brethren were of Ishmael brother of Isaac..

How is Prophet Muhammad like Prophet Moses?

Moses was a leader of His people who unified them and led them out of Egypt where they had been exploited.

Muhammad was a leader of the Arab tribes Who unified them and freed them from paganism.

How else were They (Moses and Muhammad) alike?

Through both of Them new commandments and laws were instituted. The Qur'an endorses Prophet Moses so did Jesus and so did Muhammad.

We will not discuss the Advocate in the Gospel of John until I make it a separate topic.

I gave you a list that shows Jesus is more like Moses than Muhammad, but the subject of the thread is not whether the Prophet Like Moses is Jesus or Muhammad, but whether it is Muhammad and as I have shown you the context of Deut. 18 is that the brothers referred to are the remaining Tribes of Israel and this eliminates Muhammad. You must consider the context.

If I quoted a verse in the Qur'an and took it out of context and put my own spin on it Muslims would insist I put it into context and rightly so.

Further: This is what John 14: 23-24 says:

The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me.

49 For I have not spoken on My own, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a command as to what I should say and what I should speak. 50 I know that His command is eternal life. So the things that I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”

Jesus spoke to God directly; Muhammad did not.

No prob we can look at John's Gospel and the Comforter later.

I mentioned Prophet, 'Spirit of Truth' as it had clear parallels to Deut 18:18

Why do you ignore Deut 34:10, is it because it completely nullifies your argument?

Luke 7:28 "I tell you, no one ever born is greater than John. But even the least important person in God’s kingdom is greater than John.” << Jesus pbuh telling people John the Baptist is the greatest of all Prophets, even greater than Moses pbuh.

If John is greater than Moses and Jesus is god, then how can he be anything 'like' Moses pbuh? ("...I will raise them up a Prophet LIKE Moses").

Oh and according to Luke, John the Baptist is also the last Prophet for the Israelites:

Luke 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. 17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

You use Christian commentaries, which obviously are going to support Jesus pbuh being that Prophet. According to them he was a Prophet, Messiah, Angel, son of God, and God himself all rolled into one.

Yet we read in John 1:25 "And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?" <<< 3 Separate persons, (and no it's not the trinity).

Many historians who have studied the lives of Moses and Muhammad (pbut) have remarked upon the many similarities between them. The late Reverend James L. Dow (1908-1977) who authored the Collins Gem Dictionary of the Bible wrote under the entry of 'Moses':

'The only man in history who can be compared even remotely to him is Muhammed.' Collins Gems Dictionary of the Bible 1972.

I didn’t ignore Deuteronomy 34:10.

What this verse indicates is that at the time it was written no prophet was like Moses. The verse was written before Jesus was born.

Keep in mind that the Prophet like Moses would come from the 11 Tribes of Israel – context of Deuteronomy 18.

Luke 7 in context:

25 What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft robes? Look, those who are splendidly dressed[h] and live in luxury are in royal palaces. 26 What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet. 27 This is the one it is written about:

Look, I am sending My messenger
ahead of You;[i]
he will prepare Your way before You.[j]

28 I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John,[k]but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

John is “greater” because he was the forerunner to the Messiah. Other prophets predicted the coming of the Messiah, but John actually met the Messiah.

Notice Jesus referred to

Isaiah 40:3Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

3 A voice of one crying out:

Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness;
make a straight highway for our God in the desert.

And

Malachi 3:1Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

3 “See, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to His temple, the Messenger of the covenant you desire—see, He is coming,” says the Lord of Hosts.

Notice Jesus said that “but the least in the kingdom of God is great than he (John the Baptist.

Why would this be so? Because John died before he saw the death and resurrection of Jesus. The least after Jesus’ death and resurrection and understood what it meant.

John 1 in context:

19 This is John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priestsand Levites to ask him, “Who are you?”

20 He did not refuse to answer, but he declared: “I am not the Messiah.”

21 “What then?” they asked him. “Are you Elijah?”

“I am not,” he said.

“Are you the Prophet?”[q]

“No,” he answered.

22 “Who are you, then?” they asked. “We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?”

23 He said, “I am a voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord[r]—just as Isaiah the prophet said.”

24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. 25 So they asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”

26 “I baptize with[s] water,” John answered them. “Someone stands among you, but you don’t know Him. 27 He is the One coming after me,[t]whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.”

28 All this happened in Bethany[u] across the Jordan,[v] where John was baptizing.

If some Jewish interpreters thought that the Messiah and the Prophet like Moses would be possibly two separate people, it would only be a matter of interpretation. The Messiah is the Prophet like Moses and the Messiah.

Their question did not imply: “If you are the one then you can't be the other.” They only tried to find a slot for him in the fulfilment of their scriptures.

Please let me point out that if the Jewish interpretation of Deuteronomy 18 was that the Prophet like Moses would not be a Jew, then why did they ask John the Baptist who was a Jew if he was that prophet?

If the Collins Gem Dictionary of the Bible says what you said it says, then my response is that we are not responsible for mistakes made by commentators of this book.

Hillei was known for his profound knowledge and extraordinary patience.
Like Moses, he was known for his humility;
and, like Moses, he lived for one hundred and twenty years.
According to kabbalistic tradition he and Moses shared the same soul.

Deut 18,

A prophet from among you,
from among your brothers like me.

Rashi comments,
Just as I am among you,
so will He set up for you (another prophet) in my stead, and so on,
from prophet to prophet.

There is no way Balaam can be compared with Moses. btw,
Balaam communicated with forces of impurity.

But it is not disinformation, just information that you would like hidden.
It is the truth, unlike the nonsense you push.
Everything that I pointed to if from Moslem history.
Again, Here is the TRUTH
The Life of Muhammad
this is a total lie about prophet Mohammad ...Our prophet is a kind merciful person not a killer nor a narcissi

this is the life of prophet Mohammad:

Who is the prophet Mohammad?? Prophet Mohammad was sent from God as a mercy for the humankind..All the monotheistic religions complete each other..and as muslims we do respect all the religions and the saints and the prophets including prophet Jesus who was described in the Quran as “the soul of God” thus we are not enemies. The Quran has talken about the Jews and the Christians in a positive way “Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve” “Surely, those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah, in His Messenger Muhammad and all that was revealed to him from Allah), those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians, - whosoever believed in Allah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”.. thus we are a religion of peace…

Do you know that prophet Mohammad was mentioned in th holy bible??

http://www.onereason.org/interfaith/muhammad-in-the-bible/

http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/02/26/197060.html

moreover the bible talks about a prophet who will come soon and who will be described as the illiterate and the prophet Mohammad was known as the illiterate because he didn’t received a common education like everyone yet ALLAH after announcing his prophecy ALLAH has undertaken the task of educating him. Thus the illiterate that the bible talks about in prophet Mohammad..

the book of Isaiah, chapter number 12, verse number 29"1 (actually, it is chapter 29, verse 12!) as a prophecy of Muhammad in the Bible. As Dr Naik quotes it, it seems an impressive prophecy:

"the book is given to a prophet who is not learned"2

don’t you ever think that what the Muslims are doing in our time, the prophet accepts it… it is impossible, Mohammad is the absolute mercy of God..

I will narrate to you a story that can be considered as a proof upon the mercy of Mohammad..

One of the jews was the neighbor of Mohammad. He didn’t like the prophet at all. He used to put the garbage at the door of the prophet each day.. one day, he didn’t put anything..thus the prophet felt anxious and said perhaps he is sick or he needs something thus he went to his house to see him. When the jewish man saw the prophet, Mohammad said to him I felt anxious why you didn’t appear today..the jewish man was shocked he said I was hurting you by that deed and you are coming to see if I am ok or not??!!!

This is prophet Mohammad … Mohammad doesn’t deserve to be humiliated like that and believe me if the prophet Jesus was humiliated like that Muslims would refuse this humiliation same as how they did with the prophet..

All those terrorists have nothing to do with the prophet Mohammad ..moreover, those terrorists will enter hell..those terrorists were at the time of the prophet the enemies of his household..those terrorists have killed the household of the prophet and they are killing you now…and they will never enter paradise as they think .,.they will enter hell and Mohammad doesn’t accept any of their deeds.

Mohammad used to feel hunger so that the poor people feel full..he used to help weak people, poor people, those who needs help..you do not know what Mohammad is and how much he is merciful

"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and I will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him." This verse is present in the Torah..ALLAH is talking with the jews about a prophet from among their brethren…”brethren” is a word that described the arabs and the ancestors of the prophet Mohammad. Arabs and jews are relatives. The jews are related to someone the arabs are related to his brother (sons of sam) that’s why word brethren describes the arabsthus the prophet who was mentioned in this verse is Mohammad
