He always does, I mean he is Irish and a large number of the flock is.
It is our tradition. He would be done if he didn't.

It is tradition to have a corn beef feast, parade and pack the bars, politics is always in the air.

“Given the importance of this feast in the life of the archdiocese and in the lives of so many of our families, I am granting a dispensation from the Friday Lenten abstinence on March 17, 2017, to those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity,” he wrote. He added that Catholics who do should consider another sacrifice or act of charity to make up for it.

Just...lol. Eat meat, drink like a guppy, and argue earthly matters on a day of fasting. Seems legit.

Families get together also and we celebrate from whence we came.

It is very traditional here. Not everyone gets drunk.

A Bishop would be "done" if he didn't grant a special dispensation for the laity to eat meat on this day? It was nice of him to do this, but I have to believe that practicing Catholics would respect his decision whichever way he decided to go.

Mike no need to be so dour. I said it in partial jest. But a Cardinal in Boston these days would never say no, especially one named Seán Patrick O'Malley.

NY has done the same.

New York Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan sent archdiocesan pastors a letter in late January notifying them of the dispensation and asking them to let their parishioners know about it.

Our parish has an 'Irish Stew Dinner' every year and this year is no different. There was an Irish group plus French and German when this parish was founded in 1800's.
