Trump's press conference 2017/2/16 was the saddest thing

The irony of people saying hes bad because he lies and what not is hilarious. Show me a politician who doesn't lie and I'll show you my flying purple elephant who spits out gold bricks. All politicians lie. Especially presidents. Only difference between Obama and Trump is Trump speaks his mind and lies right up front to everyone. He makes it obvious. Where as Obama lies but does so after having someone write him a very specific script with specific words and tell him not to put emotion into it. Hence he looks like a smooth talker but in reality hes lying too. Not sure why people are mad at Trump then. Maybe its just because hes not afraid to lie/exaggerate up front.

Really? So Jewish reporters deserve to be told to sit down and be quiet if they dare ask what his excellency is going to do about the rising anti-semitic attacks?
Actually he told many reporters to sit down and be quiet. Whats interesting is how many people are talking about "He hasn't done this and that!". Really? Did Obama fix race relations? Did he fix anti-semitic attacks? Nope. So claiming Trump is bad because he didn't is silly.

The "Obama did it too!!" argument. And here we thought Trump was all about change . . .

Speaking for myself, I'd care less about his lying if he didn't make a point to call so many other people out on lying all the time. For all the talk about 'fake news', he's been guilty of quite a lot of it in his time.

Do we even live in the same universe?

President Trump complained that the press was telling the truth. How in the world is that "holding them accountable"?
Actually we are in two different worlds.

Trump made it clear the media was being untruthful and promoting false narratives. He's right.

Some have tried to say that Trump was "defending" himself from unfair criticism. But no president has ever gone on these kinds of tirades when faced with criticism, fair or unfair. Trump is a snowflake — easily offended by the faintest suggestion that he is not as great as he has made himself appear. The irony is that many of his supporters on the alt-right are fond of using "snowflake" as an insult for liberals, apparently not realising that they are supporting a man that embodies the word.
Trump is not playing the role the Beltway media scripts for Republicans.

Reason? He's not a Republican. The sooner this fact sinks in things will get better.

Thankfully he and his supporters have "alternative facts" then, amirite?

Do we live in Communist Russia? Is the press only allowed to ask the questions that Trump wants them to ask? Is the press only allowed to ask questions on what Trump wants to talk about?
I believe I answered the above hyperbole in another post to another poster.

Interesting you mention alternative facts.

Just the facts which are ignored. Big difference.

I also believe the media can and do inflate speculations and pass them off as facts.

There are a few possibilities. One is that he is a Republican. He is what the GOP have gradually and systematically been working toward — Frankenstein's monster was named after Frankenstein. The other is that he is not a Republican because he holds no firm political allegiance. His only allegiance is to himself and he is inevitably attracted to whatever party will allow him to pursue his personal ambitions and to self-aggrandise.

What is coming out of the WH is chaos, turmoil, and scandal.

Obama didn't have his aids undermining national security prior to his inauguration. Obama didn't have his campaign in constant contact with Russian intelligence while Russian intelligence was breaking into the RNC. Obama didn't tell bald faced lies about his electoral count.

Speculation. Any facts?

Well, of course it matters. We shouldn't do anything illegal, for example. However, maybe it makes sense to reduce the business taxes or regulations, or make it more expensive for companies to leave the country, or tax their goods if they leave and try to resell in the US. I think there are lots of ideas that should be looked at. The status quo just hasn't been doing it for a long time.

Manufacturing production is at all time highs. Clearly the system is working.

Also everything after reducing business taxes or regulations in your list? Violate a whole whack of treaties and agreements (which would in turn open up the US to either retaliatory tariffs or an ISDS suit).

Trump's allegiance is to the people who elected him. Unlike the DC political class, he owes nothing to the political machine.

That is why he takes his message direct to the people.

I hope you did not miss the GOP primaries. The GOP machine came after Trump and some bitter hold outs still do. Trump took a flamethrower to the GOP apparatus and still won the nomination. He then swung the flamethrower to the state run media beholden to a flawed terrible candidate in Clinton. He won that battle too and won the election to streams of tears.

I guess the press did not learn its lesson. They are not the Chief Executive and Trump made that clear yesterday.

I thank you for your insights. However the only Frankenstein out there was the Clinton campaign. What does her coronation tour tell you about the state of that party? I think we can all make an honest assessment.

Trump has done and said a lot of crazy [staff edit] things that bear no relation to any known reality, but today is just, just... you have to go watch it. Or at the very least read the transcript.

I saw the whole thing today without reading any news commentary. [Staff edit].

Post your favourite excerpts below.

I thought it was great. It's about time that somebody with authority called out the [staff edit] press corp. We know who they are and what their agenda is. Let's not hide it any more.

To the people who elected him? You are STILL falling for that? He promised to drain the swamp. Instead, he swallowed it whole. He touted himself as someone opposed to the systemic corruption in DC, something that he would put an end to. Instead, he became the corruption, failing to distance himself from his business empire and making various security blunders ("Oh, but her emails!!"). Come on, don't be a sucker.

Renegotiating treaties is not violating agreements.

Trump is booting out many of the career politicians and replacing them with people who actually have worked for a living.

He whined and cried about how unfairly he was being treated. He still feels the need to exaggerate the extent of his victory, in spite of the facts, and when he is corrected, he declares the press the enemy, not of himself, but of the people. You can't see why that is dangerous?
