Peace be upon you guys!
So today, on my way to church, there were a couple of men aged between 35-50 years old. They shouted at me saying these exact words: "Hey you, get rid of those long shirts or you will never get married. What kind of style is that.........etc". I didn't hear the rest simply because I didn't want to. But I was hurt. What I was wearing was a faux leather jacket and black jeans and I literally just tied a shirt around my waist so it covered my backside. And what did that comment even mean? That I had to walk naked around in order to get married? I try to be more modest in a more "modern" way because currently I live somewhere where people are unfortunatelly not really caring for modesty. I don't want to stop dressing this way, but I need your opinion regarding this subject and if you would also think the same thing these men thought when they saw me?

Thanks for reading and God bless!

OK, I'll play devil's advocate for a moment. There is a difference between being modest and dressing in a stand-offish manner. You can be modest while also being somewhat stylish. Long sleeve shirts might be fine in the dead of winter, but not really a good choice in June or August; people will simply think you are weird, not modest. Go join an Amish community if you want to dress in an inordinately "modest" costume, and have men (whose style is equally odd) in the community who will be interested in dating/marrying you. You act as if people are asking you to wear a skimpy string bikini (they aren't). But seriously, even the mennonite women around here walk around with bare forearms for all to see. Those guys may have been hateful to you, but they also were sort of trying to give you some good advice. Too bad your so-called friends haven't given you good advice.

It was late October when it happened, so it was indeed cold here where I live. Secondly, please make sure to search for definitions of terms you want to use before writing them to someone. I'm very sorry that you are so close minded and actually stopping by to write me a comment and clearly being rude, when I needed a comment from people who understand what am I talking about.

Search for definitions of terms? Yep, you are weird indeed. It's closed minded, not close minded. I understand what you are talking about -- you basically don't like men checking you out. Men will be checking you out until you are either so old or so fat that there is nothing worth checking out -- it's basic human behavior. Sure, some guys are trash and will make crude comments; but realize that virtually all men will check you out to some degree. Sit on a park bench and just observe others; take note of how young men check out young women (and vice versa); it is normal. Very normal. Get over yourself. If you don't want to be checked out, hiding out in a monastery is about your only option.

I live in Canada & for like 3/4 of the year I'm covered head to toe & I don't care if people think I'm a weirdo being overly modest or whatever, bc I just care about being warm. Then when it's finally hot I want as much sun on my skin as possible so I don't care if people think I'm being immodest so long as I'm dressed appropriately for wherever I'm going. Just ignore lame judgmental people!
