Detroit family caught in Iraq travel ban, mom dies waiting to come home

"A local business owner flies to Iraq to bring his mother back home to the US for medical treatment. But under President Trump's ban on immigration and travel from seven predominately Muslim nations, he was forced to leave his family behind.

Hager said he was returning home with his family that included his sick mom. They were returning home to the United States where his mother has lived since 1995. As they were waiting in line at the airport in Iraq on Friday, he was told that he could pass through because he was a U.S. citizen. But his family members - including his mom - weren't allowed, despite holding green cards."

Not Christian, but certainly hurt.

All countries have restrictions that disadvantage some. A friend in Australia had to send his elderly mother back to South Africa where she has no children to care for her because of a pre-existing health condition that prevented her from gaining citizenship.

Laws that cause difficulties for some people, especially around family reunification, are not necessarily bad laws when there is a greater good. Of course, "greater good" is a matter of perception.

As I heard recently: "If Trump walked on water, the media headlines would be 'Trump cannot swim'".

Your post in the thread Trump's Executive Order Is Harming Christians Already. was edited. Reason: Hi, staff has decided to edit the quote because of the original post in the quote has been deleted :)

When considering the countries to which the ban applies, we often hear criticism based on the countries represented by those who have carried out actual terrorist attacks. It would be interesting to hear about the countries represented by those charged with terrorism offences (planning, inciting, etc). The number of people in the second group, I expect, is much higher than those in the first, and probably explains the countries selected.

In context, I meant attacks that are carried by a person inside Israel territory (thus, went through immigration).

So it doesn't include rocket attacks from outside Israel's borders.

And considering Israel is right in the middle of nations hostile to Israel, and given the number of Arabs resident in Israel, they are doing a tremendously great job at screening immigrants. They are obviously doing something the rest of the world hasn't figured out yet.

It is not a matter of figuring it out it is a matter of being willing to do what works.

What needs to happen is people in the administration need to figure out that ISIS, al Qeda, Taliban etc. are NOT just physical enemies, but that there is a spiritual war element here - wrestling against demonic principalities and powers. (Eph 6.12) and fight islamic extremism in that venue FIRST.

Got any empirical evidence of this claim?

Christians who understand the concept of "spiritual warfare" will of course agree, but I'm not sure what you could expect from the Trump administration. Islamic extremism as a demonic power is evident from their attitude towards Christians and Israel.

I'm sure you're already familiar with the term. But for our purposes here, let's go with "evidence a secular government can base a decision on"
Exactly. So there can be no evidence that fits that criteria.

1 Corinthians 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

The nature of this conflict requires people with spiritual discernment to direct the intercessors and prayer warriors along with the physical military to coordinate their efforts.

That cannot be done from a purely secular perspective.

Are you saying what Israel does to keep itself safe, USA is not willing to do?

I'm not sure if that is true. But Israel being in the middle of their enemies seemed to have mastered the art of defense in everything. They are much more experienced and actually more technologically advanced in that field. They seem willing to share that expertise to USA the last I read but I don't how it turned out.

Then it's a red herring in a discussion about secular governance. Let's move on, shall we?
