The Palestinian Authority will open an embassy in the Vatican on Friday, capping a significant boosting of ties between Ramallah and the Holy See, the PA’s official news outlet Wafa reported on Thursday.

The inauguration will be attended by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and comes a little over a year and half after the Vatican officially recognized the state of Palestine in a move that was then highly criticized by Israel’s Foreign Ministry.

I'm on the side of the believers and since both nations are full of unbelievers, I'm pretty indifferent to the situation. If you are going to recognize one of the states and allow them to open an embassy, the same might as well be done for the other.

Please dont quote me on this i am going off memory from a few years ago.

I seem to recall reading that just after the second world war a dignatry from one of the allies went to the then pope and ask for his support in setting up isreal i think the then pope refused saying he could not do that because again dont quote me on it that it something along the lines of isreal ceased to be and the church was the new isreal or something to that effect but that although he could not support it he would not stand in the way

I also think it was one of pope benedicts last actions was to recognise the state of palestine but how much of that was down to him if he was under duress i dont know

Vatican's concern is peaceful resolution and a two-state solution. It is also what Jesus, Our Lord and Savior taught. It is also what the majority of Jews in the nation of Israel want. God loves the Jews and Palestinians (both Christian and Muslim) equally. Israel is a secular nation. They should be held to the same standards as all nations. The "government" and the "politics" of Israel are not what Jesus has taught us as Christians. He said "He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life". Pope Francis is promoting peace for the Christians, Jews and Muslims in the region in the hopes that ALL will acknowledge that Jesus, is the Lord, the Ruler, and King of all Nations.

Traditional Catholics have never supported the idea that the nation of Israel is anything but a haven of non-believers and that the Church is the Biblical Israel. The idea that the modern-day nation of Israel is somehow anything but another in a long list of Christ-deniers doing their best to improve their Earthly lot is a recent invention and an output of modernist conservative politics masquerading as faith in Christ. It has, until very recently, been the liberals in the Church who sung the praises of the modern nation of Israel while sincere traditionalists saw little in it but Zionist ideals that ran contrary to Christ's will. It's funny how fashions change.

If someone or some people would calculate how many times Francis and his administration have made a fool of the Church and Catholicism they would already have a hard time... and the old man could well live for another 20 years. :sigh:
