Rubbernecking locked threads

trying to guess who reported the thread is more fun.

Depends on subject matter. I used to check them to see what happened and who blew a gasket, and who reported them. But that was on other forums and has been extremely rare around here at TLT.

Yes, I check to see if it is permanently closed or just temporary until the staff reviews it. There's no way to tell anything further, so I don't bother looking, unless I have been active in that particular thread and am somewhat familiar with the postings.

Hmmm...perhaps I should have used a different phrase. What we may have is a difference between Yankee English and Aussie English. How about "going ballistic"?

I'd say "hitting one's roof" is close too.

blowing one's gasket is rather picturesque however.....
imagine the top of your head comming off, and all your thoughts spewing out in a cartoon balloon above your head.....

No, ballistics is the study of an unpowered projectile's path in a gravitational field. Which, obviously, is practically applied in projectile weaponry, but they are different fields.

I sometimes get a post rated in locked threads, so I'll often look back on them then. Usually I just get frustrated with them, though, when I go to post a really profound insight, only to find I don't have permission to do that.
