• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am new here, and have been saved since the age of 5 year old. I am a Christian but ive not really been practicing for the last 10 years. I do pray often though and believe.

I recently went home for thanksgiving and I could not sleep the entire night for whatever reason. This caused me some severe anxiety and I started to freak out, I could barely get it under control.

The next day, all sleepy, tired, stressed and anxious I was at the meal. I started to eat and the anxiety hit me like a ton of bricks. I could hardly eat it was so bad. This has been kind of on and off.

I would appreciate any prayers, I do not know if this is being caused by something physical or something else.

Now, whenever I eat I get super anxious and have a hard time and think "what if I _____
Anxious people always think worst case scenario. "what if...." It's like they have a perfectionist mind and want to be ready for all variables that might occur. CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy" is popular for dealing with this mindset. Might be worth a try.

Hi andben, and welcome! I'm sorry to hear you're going through this right now. Congrats on the weight loss though, 50 lbs is very impressive!

I've suffered from anxiety to varying degrees in my life. In my late teens and early twenties I developed panic attacks and they occurred much like your anxiety has-- seemingly out of nowhere. (However looking back, I can see many stressors I didn't recognize at the time) I associated my panic with night time because that's when I first experienced it, and for years it was hard for me to sleep at night without pills or alcohol because I was afraid it would happen again.

I'm saying this not to frighten you, but to point out that with anxiety and panic, sometimes our anticipation and fear of an episode makes one more likely to happen. So if you can, it's best to try not to fear it too much. It is terrible to go through, but it won't kill you.

It could be physical, of course, so I hope you get to a doctor to get checked out. I will pray for your recovery. If it is anxiety and not a heart problem, I want you to know that there is hope and healing out there. My condition has improved so much, and I know many others who have found relief too. I wish you all the best! You are in my prayers. Please reach out here if you need to talk. It's a great place for that, imo :)

I do always think "What if" and then jump to a pretty much worst case scenario. Normally, its not bad and not worth mentioning, but this time is something else. Ive had probably 3 x the stress I normally over the last year. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks, I really appreciate the response. There is just so much going on my life right now, most of it highly stressful. When the first attack happened I did think of drinking as a way to deal with it but I rebuked that thought immediately. There can be no good that comes out of that. I am not sure if there is such thing as a "spirit of anxiety" or if its a physical malady but I know that God is control and I just need to trust an believe.

I don't know what you mean by practicing as that means different things.
The way I have fought against these battles
are to submit to God tell Him everything I am feeling and opening myself to Him as my only True Forever Friend, Most Loving Father and Wisest Counselor. Share with Him and ask for His help. You must also know His Word as Jesus did to battle against the adversary. I will also pray for you.

Sorry, by "Not practicing" I meant I didnt go to church and I didnt follow Gods word as much as a Christian should.

This whole ordeal has really brought me back to say the least, if this is what it takes then OK God I am crying out for deliverance!

I dont want to sound like I just need God when I need Him, I have been praying that he would reveal himself to me recently. if He can use this anxiety mess for the greater good to bring me closer to him then great!

God's Word is founded on Yeshua <<<a ROCK <<Bedrock<<< anything else is quick sand....
My brother, He will reveal Himself to you through His Word first.
You can hear it if reading is not feasible.
My experience is, I am deceived and distracted when I travel on any other path.
And Yes ! friend He may use your weakness to tie you around Himself tightly.
Have you ever heard that Shepherds will break the leg of a sheep that continually strays from the flock, not due to cruelty but great love. Then binds up the leg and from then on carries the lamb upon his shoulders until he heals up.
From then on the lamb, stays close, recognizing His master's voice.
In this way he is not distracted or eaten by the wolves and lions.
What appears to be an act of evil is actually the only way some of us will stay close, and learn to hear our Beloved's Voice.
Better to be weak that Jesus be strong in us.
2 Corinthians 12:9 [Full Chapter]
My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
Psalm 136:23
He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever.

Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!

Romans 6:19
Because of the weakness of your human nature, I am using the illustration of slavery to help you understand all this. Previously, you let yourselves be slaves to impurity and lawlessness, which led ever deeper into sin. Now you must give yourselves to be slaves to righteous living so that you will become holy.

Romans 8:3
The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

Thank you very much for the encouraging scripture. I really appreciate it. I am still struggling with this and it just seems so all consuming recently(like it snowballs) . I find that scripture and Christian music really does help. I find it also helps when I really just pray hard for other people.

are you able to workout? Are you on medication?

Yes, I can workout and I really need too. When I spoke to my parents about all this (im 24) that is also something they recommended. No I am not other than some herbal nerve tonic from walmart.
