• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm so scared because of my thoughts. The thoughts are so scary because they say that I'm with the stupid devil and that really scares me because I get feelings that go with it and I just want to know this answer. Do I need to worry about these feelings and thoughts or no. I love you all and may God bless you.

What you are describing sounds like 'intrusive thought'. These can be treated by a good Cognitive Behavioual Therapist. Go to your doctor and ask for a psychological assessment and get sone CBT.

It is evidenced based and works.

All the best.

Still with you in prayer, Zack.

The previous poster's suggestion may be a good option, since what you're experiencing didn't seem to me to be spiritual based on our previous conversation. If this therapy is something that you're able to seek out, it might indeed be worth a try.

In any case, I still remain open to the possibility that it may in fact be spiritual -- as it does sound exactly like something a lying spirit would say and do. I have no clear discernment that this is the case, though (and admittedly, discernment can be more difficult when not done in person, though it's not impossible), so I personally would recommend the therapy before trying anything further spiritually.

If I feel anything to the contrary as I continue to pray for you, I'll certainly let you know.

In Christ,
Daryl

It's definitely intrusive thoughts I believe but when they feel so real it gets scary and I really appreciate your reply and I'm going to be going to Christian counseling soon. God bless

You bet, and that's really good to hear.

If, after giving the counseling a good solid try, you don't feel that it's working for you, we can revisit the spiritual perspective once again. But I'm really hoping this will work for you and will be praying for that. :)

In Christ,
Daryl

Thanks and I have a serious question for you brother. I get these thoughts of renouncing Jesus and then I get feelings that go along with it should I be worried. God bless you brother

Honestly, I don't think so. You're concerned enough to seek help and to ask the question, which I think is entirely healthy and right.

If you were not concerned, logically, it would be for one of two reasons: 1) you don't care, or 2) your faith and the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) sustain you. Clearly reason 1 is not the case, and we've been trying to get you to reason 2 until the thoughts can be made to stop or can be otherwise managed.

But I do understand the need to have this affirmed, since these thoughts have been continuing to trouble you for so long, so I thank you for asking. :)

In Christ,
Daryl

The enemy cannot affect your relationship with God AT ALL. He can only affect how you see it, while you may feel unloved, it in NO WAY alters the very real and factual reality that God loves you! God's grace even covers your lack of embracing it. As your name states and I think you chose well there, God is good all the time and all the time God is good. Not only did Jesus not come to condemn you/the world (John 3:17), He came to take away the only thing that could condemn you (Col. 2:14). Jesus Christ fully satisfied God's wrath when He became sin and hung on our cross. There's nothing left hanging over your head. NOTHING! This goes for everything present and future, or do you not know that when God called you, that He called all of you including your OCD? Including every sin you have, will, or are going to commit? God exist outside of time and therefore you cannot catch Him off guard. It is actually IMPOSSIBLE to let God down for in order to let someone down they have to have expectations as one who doesn't have all knowledge. God has all knowledge.

While you may struggle with fear, anxiety, and doubt, know this. God doesn't. I know that may not give you much direct comfort, nor solve your struggle with OCD but God is greater than your struggle (1 John 3:20), His grace is bigger than your fear, and while you may not be confident in God's love and acceptance of you, God is confident in God's love and acceptance of you and God is unchanging! (James 1:17). Remember, the prodigal? The prodigal didn't feel loved nor accepted but at best had hoped to be as hired help, but that had no affect on the Father having compassion on him, embracing him, and even throwing a party in his honor (Luke 15:11-32).

Typically intrusive thoughts are the ones we find personally abhorrent (that's why we over focus on them so much).

Our brain generates automatic negative thoughts all the time and as the above poster states: the fact that these thoughts worry you means that you will not follow through on them.

A good analogy is the person who is afraid of heights worries that they will throw themselves of any high place they happen to be on. They won't but that's what they fear.

Does that make sense?

All the best.

Thanks please pray for me I am so scared and it feels like I am going to hell because I'm not trusting in Jesus and he's probably really mad at me.

In one of the very few times I attended Sunday school as a child, I was given a portion of a verse to memorize, and I have never forgotten it.

I offer it to you now, because you, too, can come to the Father as a child, and he will take you into his arms like the beloved son you are.

The fragment was, "Be not afraid, only believe." It's from Mark 5:36.

May you have a peaceful and restful night in His arms.

In Christ,
Daryl

I'm afraid I don't pray (not religious) but I hope you seek help because it's a common problem that is treated every day by therapists (I'm one so I know it's treatable).

Seek professional help because it won't go away on it's own.

I have seen you say that Jesus is Lord. This can only be done through the holy spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3), and Romans 10:9 confirms that you will be saved. You may relax, rejoice, and tell the lying thoughts where to go in the name of Jesus. :)

I can certainly pray with you that you will surrender everything to Jesus, but really, if you feel that there is something you have not surrendered to him, you can just go right ahead and do it with him in that moment. You can do this as often as you feel necessary with whatever things may be brought into your mind; you don't really need me or anyone else for that.

That said, I'm happy to offer whatever support you may need.

In Christ,
Daryl

That's very kind but I actual set myself the task to read the Bible a few years ago (I skipped some of the genealogies, though) and got to the end.
