Indeed. I found it interesting that, in this one gospel above the previous three, Pilate seems to put a lot of emphasis on proclaiming Jesus' innocence of any wrongdoing and trying to convince the populace to let Pilate release him. But in the end, Jesus suffered because of Pilate's declining to follow through with his conviction that Jesus had done nothing wrong and did not deserve this punishment, using his authority to act and release Jesus in spite of the crowd's desire to scourge and crucify him. He did not HAVE to listen to the crowd who was shouting for Jesus to be put to death, but, unfortunately, Pilate still apparently worried more about how bad it would look to Big Brother Caesar if he were to displease the crowd by releasing Christ despite Him being an innocent man who deserved no punishment at all in the first place, and so Pilate gave in to crowd's heinous desire for crucifixion despite how long he first seemed to spend trying to convince them otherwise.

A short note on what caught my eye from Thursday's reading, Proverbs 26:17 =>

17 Like one who takes a dog by the ears Is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him.

... Indeed. To be a part of any kind of strife should be undesirable to a Christ believer as it is, much less deliberately involve yourself in someone else's conflict that you know little to nothing about because you enjoy such a perverse thing.

Proverbs 28

I accidentally went ahead and read Proverbs 29 before I knew it earlier tonight, and this verse caught my eye:

21He who pampers his slave from childhood will in the end find him to be a son.

I believe it is translated as "servant" in other versions, but nevertheless I think it might be a good verse to point out to those (often atheists) who show disdain for Scripture by insisting that it condones horrific things like slavery. Of course, when they would mention "slavery" they are thinking of people being seen as nothing more than property to be maltreated at the master's will, less than human. Well, it would seem to me that this proverb would disagree, admonishing the master to treat someone who works under him a lot better than that. And the slave will be like a son. A master who treats a slave well will be loved by that slave despite the master being over him. Why do you think we love the Lord? He is above us, beyond us, and we serve Him, but instead of flaunting that power and ownership over us as a bully or a tyrant, He treats us well and loves us first, does He not?
