I don't fee saved. I have accepted Jesus as my savior, I know He died for my sins and rose on the third day, I go to church, pray. I try to do the right thing, but I find myself sinning anyway. Sometimes without realizing it until after. I don't want to hear, "Depart from me!" I don't feel like I am really living the Christian life, and I feel like people don't feel that I am a real Christian. No one has ever told me to my face that, but I don't feel like I am a good example. What should I do?

Stop trying to rely on your emotions. They're fickle. So, you believe. What are you doing about it?

You need a faith that works. Faith is something of an action word. It's continuous, and it isn't a one moment in time deal. Faith is not merely an intellectual assent to a belief in God. You are saved at your baptism into Christ, you are being saved through life in the Church and partaking of the sacraments, and you will be saved at the Final Judgment.

Salvation is having faith in Christ, receiving the indwelling/gift of the Holy Spirit, and coming to a knowledge of God the Father. Yes, we have faith, but it is a gift by the grace of God, and it is actually God's mercy (and not our faith) that saves us. God draws us to Himself.

A life in Christ is a journey to us. We don't attempt to break things down, but see things holistically.

So, first step. Have you been baptized into Christ? If not, why not?

You're on the right path, Lybrah. Say what you wrote here to Jesus in a prayer & ask him, "What should I do?"

Ah, the lies Satan tries to tell us.

As Seashale has said, don't listen to your emotions. "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" -Jeremiah 17:9

Also, just because you're sinning doesn't mean you're not saved. Everyone sins. EVERYONE. But you have to become aware of your sin and turn away form your sinful desires.

Why don't you take some time over the next few days to read Romans, Hebrews, Colossians, Philippians, Ephesians, and 1 John and then see how you feel. Take your time and pray and commune with God as you read these books and see what the Holy Spirit will teach you as you read.

Good question...
I have the same problem.
I'm not born again, my flesh is still alive.
I'm not gonna give up my beliefs though, i have faith it will turn out allright.
I can't go back to unbelief anymore anyway, because i believe in God of the Bible.
It says: John 3:16
Hallelujah.

To both Hieronymus and Lybrah--if you are born again, that doesn't mean that you will not wrestle with sin and with your flesh. It does mean that your sins have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus and that the Holy Spirit lives in you. Do you know if the Holy Spirit lives in you? I am not asking about wishful thinking, but a real sense that God the Holy Spirit lives in you and directs your ability to comprehend scripture, know truth, and impel you towards righteousness.

Hmm.. Actually, yes.
But i believe that when you're born again, you'll be able to tell and so will others.

I don't fee saved.

Lybrah: There be no place in all the bible scriptures that tells us that we are to feel we be saved...read your bible for yourself, don't take my word for it. You need to know what the bible say.

I have accepted Jesus as my savior, I know He died for my sins and rose on the third day, I go to church, pray. I try to do the right thing, but I find myself sinning anyway.
Lybrah: All of us sin...the only one who didn't sin was Jesus, he is sinless....we don't get to be like him until the resurrection.
What we aren't to do is make a practice of sinning, you know, like making it your way of life, setting out each day to practice sinning and be glorying in it.

Sometimes without realizing it until after. I don't want to hear, "Depart from me!" I don't feel like I am really living the Christian life, and I feel like people don't feel that I am a real Christian. No one has ever told me to my face that, but I don't feel like I am a good example. What should I do?

Lybrah: Living the christian life, is you living your life following Jesus and doing what the bible say... when you fail along the way, repent and get back to walking with the Lord. You read your bible and your will see that the disciples failed/missed the mark many times., they too had to repent. (The only disciple who didn't repent was Judas Iscariot.)

Feeling saved, not really scriptural.

Being saved, yes, scriptural.

When you *are saved* you wont any longer have the desire to feel saved. That desire to feel saved will go away, and you will just be saved.

Being saved is as follows...

- You give yourself to Jesus from your heart.
- You become a desciple of Jesus Christ ... which means, turning away from the world lifestyles, sins, and it also means water baptism to kill off the old life, and then it also means the baptism of the holy spirit with power.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, - Matthew 28:19

Without water baptism, you're not a disciple of Christ. It is required to walk out salvation in all areas of your life, and live as a follower of Jesus doing his works.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. - Mark 16:16

"Baptized" in the Greek really is not baptize as we know it today. It is referring to full water immersion... no sprinkling, no nice and tidy thing... full water immersion where the body of old life is buried into the depths along with its sins, and raised to new life in Christ.

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. - Romans 6:4

The newness of life here only comes by baptism into his death.

And after we are baptized, to live as Christians we require the Holy Spirit with power.

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." - Luke 24:49

The clothing came in Acts 2. Prior to Acts 2, the disciples had already been born again by the spirit, when they received the new breath of the spirit into their heart in John 20:22.

And when you have repented of the old life, believed, been baptized in water, clothed with power... and have the full commitment to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ... this need to feel saved goes away.

You just *are saved* and you often will not feel saved but you have gone far beyond the point of seriously doubting salvation.

But you see, if you miss the steps, or live like the world, then yes... you will have problems.

The heart is deceitful and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart
and examine the mind," to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
In other words, you cannot trust your feelings.

David, who wrote many Psalms, he often felt like God was distant, and he poured out his heart. I believe its normal to have doubts and fears, and we will grow through them. Persevere, we walk by faith not sight.

Psalms 69:3
I am worn out calling for help;
my throat is parched.
My eyes fail,
looking for my God.

Psalms 27:14
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord

John's First Epistle - only 5 chapters but very intense and searching - is all about assurance and the sure, bedrock for it. :)

I don't fee saved.

This is very common. There is a difference between being saved and having assurance of salvation. As a person grows in Christian maturity and closer in their walk with the Lord, they become increasingly aware of the presence of his Spirit and this is one source of assurance that is called the guarantee of our salvation.

You might want to be wary of those who offer criteria based salvation assurance such as baptism, church attendance, or having said a specific prayer. A focus on criteria can lead to an emphasis on works and be an obstacle to faith which is trusting in Jesus.

Well if we committed a sin once saved and were going to hell for it then no christian would make it to heaven! Just because your saved doesn't mean you won't mess up. Heck some struggle their who lives with various things. This doesn't mean don't try to work on not sinning of course. Figure out what your sins are and work to avoid them. Try to be as perfect as you can be. And don't buy into the lie that some will probably tell you of "If you pray about it, you will never do that sin again!". Its not impossible of course. But everyone's different.

Romans 8, ending on a triumphant note of assurance for the believer, is a very searching chapter.
