All languages and the use of most of their written or spoken words has a connection to the Bible in some way. For the English word "good" is a derivative of the word "god". The word "evil" spelled backwards says "live". The word "flesh" is called "self" spelled backwards without the "h". The word "tentative" means provisional; Which is a derivative of the word "tent". For a tent is a temporary or provisional dwelling place that was used by many of the early men of faith. Anyways, catch phrases that are commonly used in our every day language are from the Bible, such as:

1. "A Law unto themselves" (Romans 2:14),
2. "A drop in a bucket" (Isaiah 40:15),
3. "A leopard cannot change it's spots" (Jeremiah 13:23),
4. "I have escaped by the skin of my teeth" (Job 19:20).

For even the writing of the Chinese language is tied to the Bible...

Cast the First Stone from John 8:7, “And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry from Ecclesiastes 8:15, “because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.”

Eye for Eye, Tooth for tooth
from Matthew 5:38, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.”

For Everything there is a Season
from Ecclesiastes 3. Ecclesiastes 3 is also the motivation for the song “Turn! Turn! Turn!” by the Byrds.

The Powers that Be
from Romans 13:11 (KJV), “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”

The Root of the Matter
from Job 19:28 (KJV), “But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the Root of the matter is found in me?”

Scapegoat
from the Old Testament Law (Leviticus 16:9-10 specifically) where a goat is chosen by lot to be sent into the desert to make atonement for sin.

See eye to eye
from Isaiah 52:8 (KJV), “Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.”

Sign of the times
from Matthew 16:3 (KJV), “And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

Straight and Narrow
from Matthew 7:14, “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Twinkling of an Eye
from 1 Corinthians 15:52, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

There’s nothing new under the sun
from the book of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (KJV) says, “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”

Weighed in the balance from Job 31:6, “Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.”

What God has joined together let no man put asunder
from Matthew 19:6 in Miles Covedale’s translation of the Bible which says, “Now are they not twayne then, but one flesh. Let not man therfore put a sunder, yt which God hath coupled together.”

When I used to work at LA Airport, a gentleman from Great Britain - who was incidentally a Vicar in the Church of England - asked me where to find the "money changers" (his exact words) as all he had presently was "Sterling" (British currency).

(I must here insert Easter was coming the next weekend.)

I looked at him quite seriously and answered, "I'm sorry Vicar, but in honor of Easter, we've cast out all the money changers." After about a one heart-beat pause he laughed himself silly.

Yes, there are many figures of speech from the Bible. Many quite unrecognized.

Other way round. God is good, not good is God.

The word "evil" spelled backwards says "live".

That means nothing at all. God backwards is dog; are you suggesting some kind of correlation?

The word "flesh" is called "self" spelled backwards without the "h".

Good grief. That is also meaningless.

The word "tentative" means provisional; Which is a derivative of the word "tent". For a tent is a temporary or provisional dwelling place that was used by many of the early men of faith.

Tentative has nothing at all to do with tents. These are two completely different words, from different roots.

Anyways, catch phrases that are commonly used in our every day language are from the Bible, such as:

1. "A Law unto themselves" (Romans 2:14),
2. "A drop in a bucket" (Isaiah 40:15),

Fine; that one I will give you.

Yeah, that is nonsense as well.

Yeah, that is nonsense as well.

Correct etymology is not really what I was driving at. Whether the words came from these other words is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that there is a close connection in how the words are spelled. But if you believe certain things in this life are just a random occurrence of coincidences (that should be ignored), go ahead and believe that. For me, I don't think there any accidents in this life. God numbers the hairs on our head, and counts our steps and names all the stars.

Anyways, you could have been a little nicer in your reply here.
In any event, may God's love shine upon you this fine day.
